Mathematical Modeling Of Two-Dimensional Unsteady Flow In Growing Tumor, N. Gracia, D. N. Riahi, R. Roy

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

We investigate the problem of unsteady fluid flow in growing solid tumors. We develop a mathematical model for a growing tumor whose boundary is taken as a sphere, and the unsteady fluid flow within the tumor is assumed to be two dimensional with respect to the radial distance and the latitudinal angle in spherical coordinates. The expressions for the time, radial and latitudinal variations of the flow velocity, pressure, and the two investigated drug concentrations within the tumor were determined analytically. We calculated these quantities in the tumor as well as in a corresponding normal tissue. We find, in particular, …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this study we analyze the boundary layer flow of a thermophoretic magnetohydrodynamic dissipative nanofluid over an unsteady stretching sheet in a porous medium with space and time dependent internal heat source/sink. The governing equations are transformed to ordinary differential equations by using similarity transformation. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by using the Shooting Technique. The effects of non-dimensional governing parameters on the velocity, temperature, concentration profiles, friction factor, Nusselt and Sherwood numbers are discussed and presented through graphs and tables. Accuracy of the results compared with the existing ones. Excellent agreement is found with earlier studies.

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The present paper deals with the theoretical study of thermal radiation and chemical reaction on free convective heat and mass transfer flow of a Newtonian viscous incompressible fluid past a suddenly accelerated semi–infinite vertical permeable plate immersed in Darcian absorption media. The fluid media is considered as optically thick and the Rosselend radiative heat flux model is incorporated in the energy equation. The governing equation of motions are first non-dimensionalised and then transformed into a set of ordinary differential equations by employing a suitable periodic transformation. The closed form of the expression for velocity, temperature and concentration fields as well …

A Novel Approach For Solving Burger’S Equation, Amruta Daga, Vikas Pradhan

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The paper presents a new analytical method called Variational Homotopy Perturbation Method (VHPM), which is a combination of the well-known Variational Iteration method (VIM) and the Homotopy Perturbation method (HPM) for solving the one-dimensional Burger’s equation. Two test problems are presented to demontrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed method. The numerical solutions obtained are compared with the exact solution. Furthermore, this method does not require spatial discretization or restrictive assumptions and is free from round-off errors and therefore reduce the numerical computation significanly. The results reveal that the Variational Homotopy Perturbation Method is very effective and convenient to …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, the problem of steady quadratic Stokes flow past a deformed sphere has been tackled with the use of a novel perturbation technique in both situations when a uniform stream is along the axis of symmetry (axial flow) and when it is perpendicular to the axis of symmetry (transverse flow). The most general form of the deformed sphere, governed by polar equation, is considered here for the study. The general expressions for axial and transverse Stokes drag for deformed sphere has been derived up to the second order of deformation parameter for parabolic and stagnation like parabolic flow. …

The thermal stability of a couple-stress fluid is considered to include the effects of uniform horizontal magnetic field and Hall currents. The analysis is carried out within the framework of linear stability theory and normal made technique. For the case of stationary convection, magnetic field has stabilizing effect whereas Hall currents are found to have destabilizing effect on the system. The couple stress, however, has dual character in contrast to its stabilizing effect in the absence of Hall currents. Oscillatory modes are not allowed in the system. Graphs in each case have been plotted by giving numerical values to the …

The case of two uniform streaming fluids separated by a horizontal boundary is studied. It is observed, for the special case where perturbations in the direction and transverse direction of streaming are ignored, that the system is stable for stable configuration and unstable for unstable configuration. If the perturbations in the direction of streaming only one ignored, then the system is stable for stable configuration. However, the magnetic field succeeds in stabilizing certain wave-number range, which is otherwise potentially …

Thermal Instability Of Rivlin-Ericksen Elastico-Viscous Rotating Fluid In Porous Medium In Hydromagnetics, S. K. Kango, Vikram Singh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The thermal instability of a layer of Rivlin-Ericksen elastico-viscous rotating fluid in a porous medium in hydromagnetics is considered. For stationary convection, the Rivlin-Ericksen elastico-viscous fluid behaves like an ordinary (Newtonian) fluid. The magnetic field is found to have a stabilizing effect on the thermal instability of a layer of Rivlin-Ericksen fluid in the absence of rotation whereas the medium permeability has a destabilizing effect on thermal instability of Rivlin-Ericksen fluid in the absence of rotation. Rotation always has a stabilizing effect. The magnetic field, medium permeability and rotation introduce oscillatory modes in the system, which were non-existent in their …
