High-Energy Amplitudes In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky
High-Energy Amplitudes In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky
Physics Faculty Publications
High-energy scattering in the saturation region is described by the evolution of color dipoles. In the leading order this evolution is governed by the non-linear BK equation. To see if this equation is relevant for existing or future accelerators (like EIC or LHeC) one needs to know how big are the next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections. I review the calculation of the NLO corrections to high-energy amplitudes in QCD.

Photoproduction Of The Φ(1020) Meson In Neutral Decay Mode Γp → Φp → K(S)K(L)P, Heghine Seraydaryan
Physics Theses & Dissertations
The Φ(1020) meson photoproduction cross sections in the neutral decay mode Φ → KSKL are measured for the first time. This work presents measurements of differential cross sections, dσ/dt, dσ/d cos θΦc.m.; Φ decay angular distributions, W(cos θ) and W(Φ), and spin-density matrix elements, ρ0, in the Helicity and Gottfried-Jackson frames, in the energy range 1.6 GeV < Eγ < 2.6 GeV. We analyzed the photoproduction data of the g11a experiment collected on an LH2 target using the CLAS detectector at Hall B, TJNAF. The measured cross sections show some differences from the charged decay mode Φ → K+ K−.

Feasibility And Conceptual Design Of A C.W. Positron Source At Cebaf, Serkan Golge
Physics Theses & Dissertations
A feasibility study of a CW positron source for the 12 GeV upgrade at Jefferson Lab (JLAB) is provided. The proposed ≥ 100 nA Continuous Wave (CW) positron source at JLAB has several unique and challenging characteristics: high current incident electron beam at 126 MeV with a high beam power (up to a MW); CW e−beam and CW e+ production. The multiple scattering is a dominant process when creating e+ in a target, which results a large phase space area of the emitted positrons. An admittance study was done at CEBAF to find the maximum phase space area, which is …

How well we know the structure of the proton depends on our knowledge of the form factors of the proton. The ratio of the electromagnetic form factors of the proton measured by the Rosenbluth and the polarization transfer methods differ by a factor of 3 at four momentum transfer squared (Q²)=5.6 GeV². The two photon exchange (TPE) effect is the leading candidate to explain this discrepancy. The theoretical estimates of the TPE effect are model dependent so precise measurement is required to resolve this problem. The TPE effect can be measured in a model independent way by measuring …
Exclusive Π- Electro-Production From The Neutron In The Resonance Region, Jixie Zhang
Exclusive Π- Electro-Production From The Neutron In The Resonance Region, Jixie Zhang
Physics Theses & Dissertations
The study of baryon resonances is crucial to our understanding of nucleon structure. Although the excited states of the proton have been studied in great detail, there are very few data available for the neutron resonances because of the difficulty inherent in obtaining a free neutron target. To overcome this limitation, the spectator tagging technique was used in one of the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) collaboration experiments, Barely off-shell Nuclear Structure (BoNuS), in Hall-B at Jefferson Lab. We have constructed a radial time projection chamber (RTPC) based on the gaseous electron multiplier (GEM) technology to detect low momentum …

High-Energy Amplitudes In N= 4 Sym In The Next-To-Leading Order, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chirilli
Physics Faculty Publications
The high-energy behavior of the N = 4 SYM amplitudes in the Regge limit can be calculated order by order in perturbation theory using the high-energy operator expansion in Wilson lines. At large Nc , a typical four-point amplitude is determined by a single BFKL pomeron. The conformal structure of the four-point amplitude is fixed in terms of two functions: pomeron intercept and the coefficient function in front of the pomeron (the product of two residues). The pomeron intercept is universal while the coefficient function depends on the correlator in question. The intercept is known in the first two orders …

We present a study of high energy photodisintegration of proton-pairs through the γ + 3He → p + p + n channel. Photon energies, Eγ , from 0.8 to 4.7 GeV were used in kinematics corresponding to a proton pair with high relative momentum and a neutron nearly at rest. The s−11 scaling of the cross section, as predicted by the constituent counting rule for two nucleon photodisintegration, was observed for the first time. The onset of the scaling is at a higher energy and the cross section is significantly lower than for deuteron (pn pair) photodisintegration. …

We present measurements of the charge balance function, from the charged particles, for diverse pseudorapidity and transverse momentum ranges in Au + Au collisions at √sNN = 200 GeV using the STAR detector at RHIC. We observe that the balance function is boost-invariant within the pseudorapidity coverage [ − 1.3 , 1.3 ] . The balance function properly scaled by the width of the observed pseudorapidity window does not depend on the position or size of the pseudorapidity window. This scaling property also holds for particles in different transverse momentum ranges. In addition, we find that the width …

Charged-particle spectra associated with direct photon Ydir) and π0 are measured in p+p and Au+Au collisions at center-of-mass energy √sNN=200 GeV with the STAR detector at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. A shower-shape analysis is used to partially discriminate between Ydirand π0. Assuming no associated charged particles in the γdir direction (near side) and small contribution from fragmentation photons (Yfrag), the associated charged-particle yields opposite to Ydir(away side) are extracted. In central Au+Au collisions, the charged-particle yields at midrapidity (|η|<1) and high transverse momentum (3 < PTassoc < 16 GeV/c) associated with γdir and π0 (|η|<0.9, 8 < PTtrig <16 GeV/c) are suppressed by a factor of 3–5 compared with p+p collisions. The observed suppression of the associated charged particles is similar for Ydir and π0 and …16>0.9,>1)>

We report on the results of the first measurement of exclusive f0(980) meson photoproduction on protons for Eγ = 3.0–3.8 GeV and −t = 0.4–1.0 GeV2 . Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. The resonance was detected via its decay in the π+π− channel by performing a partial wave analysis of the reaction γp→pπ+π− . Clear evidence of the f0(980) meson was found in the interference between P and S waves at M π+π− ∼1 GeV. The S -wave differential …

A search for exotic mesons in the π+π+π− system photoproduced by the charge exchange reaction γp→π+π+π−(n) was carried out by the CLAS Collaboration at Jefferson Lab. A tagged-photon beam with energies in the 4.8 to 5.4 GeV range, produced through bremsstrahlung from a 5.744 GeV electron beam, was incident on a liquid-hydrogen target. A partial wave analysis was performed on a sample of 83 000 events, the highest such statistics to date in this reaction at these energies. The main objective of this study was to look for the …

We study the beam-energy and system-size dependence of ϕ meson production (using the hadronic decay mode ϕ → K + K − ) by comparing the new results from Cu + Cu collisions and previously reported Au + Au collisions at √sNN = 62.4 and 200 GeV measured in the STAR experiment at RHIC. Data presented in this Letter are from mid-rapidity ( | y | < 0.5 ) for 0.4 < PT < 5 GeV /c . At a given beam energy, the transverse momentum distributions for ϕ mesons are observed to be similar in yield and shape for Cu + Cu and Au + …
Nlo Evolution Of Color Dipoles In N=4sym, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chrilli
Nlo Evolution Of Color Dipoles In N=4sym, Ian Balitsky, Giovanni A. Chrilli

High-energy behavior of amplitudes in a gauge theory can be reformulated in terms of the evolution of Wilson-line operators. In the leading logarithmic approximation it is given by the conformally invariant BK equation for the evolution of color dipoles. In QCD, the next-to-leading order BK equation has both conformal and non-conformal parts, the latter providing the running of the coupling constant. To separate the conformally invariant effects from the running-coupling effects, we calculate the NLO evolution of the color dipoles in the conformal N = 4 SYM theory. We define the "composite dipole operators" with the rapidity cutoff preserving conformal …

New Compact Tem-Type Deflecting And Crabbing Rf Structure, J. R. Delayen, H. Wang

A new type of rf structure for the deflection and crabbing of particle beams is presented. The structure is comprised of a number of parallel TEM resonant lines operating in opposing phase from each other. One of its advantages is its compactness compared to conventional crabbing cavities operating in the TM110 mode, thus allowing low frequency designs. This geometry would also be effective for the deflection of beams propagating at velocities substantially less than that of light.

Semi-inclusive π+ electroproduction on protons has been measured with the CLAS detector at Jefferson Lab. The measurement was performed on a liquid-hydrogen target using a 5.75 GeV electron beam. The complete five-fold differential cross sections were measured over a wide kinematic range including the complete range of azimuthal angles between hadronic and leptonic planes, ϕ , enabling us to separate the ϕ-dependent terms. Our measurements of the ϕ -independent term of the cross section at low Bjorken x were found to be in fairly good agreement with pQCD calculations. Indeed, the conventional current fragmentation calculation can account for almost all …

The small-x deep inelastic scattering in the saturation region is governed by the nonlinear evolution of Wilson-line operators. In the leading logarithmic approximation it is given by the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation for the evolution of color dipoles. In the next-to-leading order the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation gets contributions from quark and gluon loops as well as from the tree gluon diagrams with quadratic and cubic nonlinearities. We calculate the gluon contribution to the small-x evolution of Wilson lines (the quark part was obtained earlier).

The analysis is made using two approaches, dispersion relations and a unitary isobar model, which give consistent Q2 behavior of the helicity amplitudes for the gamma*p -> N (1440)P11 transition. It is found that the transverse helicity amplitude A 1/2, which is large and negative at Q2=0, becomes large and positive at Q2 similar or equal …

We present the Bjorken integral extracted from Jefferson Lab experiment EG1b for 0.05< Q2 2. The integral is fit to extract the twist-4 element f p−n2 which appears to be relatively large and negative. Systematic studies of this higher twist analysis establish its legitimacy at Q2 around 1 GeV2. We also performed an isospin decomposition of the generalized forward spin polarizability γ0. Although its isovector part provides a reliable test of the calculation techniques of chiral perturbation theory, our data disagree with the calculations.

The scaling exponent for the total cross section as 1/(Q2 +M2ϕ)n was determined to be n = 2.49 ± 0.33. The slope of the four-momentum transfer t′ distribution is bϕ = 0.98 ± 0.17 GeV-2 . Under the assumption of s -channel helicity conservation, we determine the ratio of longitudinal to transverse cross sections …

The beam-spin asymmetries in the hard exclusive electroproduction of photons on the proton (→ep→epγ ) were measured over a wide kinematic range and with high statistical accuracy. These asymmetries result from the interference of the Bethe-Heitler process and of deeply virtual Compton scattering. Over the whole kinematic range (xB from 0.11 to 0.58, Q2 from 1 to 4.8 GeV2, −t from 0.09 to 1.8 GeV2), the azimuthal dependence of the asymmetries is compatible with expectations from leading-twist dominance, A ≃ asinϕ/(1+ccosϕ). This extensive set of data can thus be used to …

The exclusive channel polarized proton(polarized e,e' p)π0 was studied in the first and second nucleon resonance regions in the Q2 range from 0.187 to 0.770 GeV2 at Jefferson Lab using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS). Longitudinal target and beam-target asymmetries were extracted over a large range of center-of-mass angles of the π0 and compared to the unitary isobar model MAID, the dynamic model by Sato and Lee, and the dynamic model DMT. A strong sensitivity to individual models was observed, in particular for the target asymmetry and in the higher invariant mass region. This data …

The exclusive electroproduction process e ⃗ p → e'nπ+ was measured in the range of the photon virtuality Q2 =1.7-4.5 GeV2, and the invariant mass range for the n π+ system of W=1.15-1.7 GeV using the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer. For the first time, these kinematics are probed in exclusive π+ production from protons with nearly full coverage in the azimuthal and polar angles of the nπ+ center-of-mass system. The nπ+ channel has particular sensitivity to the isospin 1/2 excited nucleon states, and together with the pπ0 final state will serve …

Nucleon-Nucleon (NN) Short Range Correlations (SRC) represent a valuable part of the nuclear wave function. Improved knowledge of SRC will give us a better understanding of nuclear matter and nuclear interactions in extreme conditions. A study of the effects of short-range correlations using the 3He(e, e'pp)n reaction measured at Jefferson Lab is presented. Two different approaches were selected to investigate SRC. The first approach consists of the kinematics when we investigate the two active protons and neutron is the spectator (was not involved in the interaction). This kinematics dominates by Final State Interactions which are reasonably …
