A Study Of The Direct Capture Process Of Protons By 27Al, Rozana Hussain
A Study Of The Direct Capture Process Of Protons By 27Al, Rozana Hussain
Masters Theses
An experimental investigation of the 27Al(p,γ)28Si reaction was made for protons in the energy range 550- to 1785-keV and at angles of 0, 20, 55, 90 and 118 degrees. Four angular distributions at Ep = 845-, 1055-, 1135-, and 1618-keV were selected for detailed study. These angular distributions were fit with theoretical calculations employing a directcapture model. These fits permitted the extraction of spectroscopic factors for the population of the first excited-state in 28Si by proton transfer.
Determination Of Phenomenological Optical Model Parameters For Neutrons On 208Pb From 4 To 150 Mev, Randy L. Schutt
Determination Of Phenomenological Optical Model Parameters For Neutrons On 208Pb From 4 To 150 Mev, Randy L. Schutt
Masters Theses
Phenomenological o p tic a l model parameters for neutrons incident on 208Pb have been determined for neutron energies from 4 to 150 MeV using the code SNOOPY-8. Neutron total cross sections from 4 to 150 MeV and angular distributions for elastic scattering from 13.5 to 40.0 MeV were utilized. Analyses of total and differential cross sections were performed at a number of energies to determine energy dependent expressions for the real strengths of the central potential, imaginary surface potential, and imaginary volume potential. These energy dependent expressions for V, Wd, and WS were found to …
A Study Of Classical Elastic Scattering For Heavy-Ion Nuclear Reactions, John C. Orrison
A Study Of Classical Elastic Scattering For Heavy-Ion Nuclear Reactions, John C. Orrison
Masters Theses
Numerical computer programs were developed to calculate the classical elastic scattering orbits, deflection functions and differential scattering cross-sections for a heavy-ion nuclear reaction model.
Critical points of the deflection functions and differential scattering cross-sections were examined.
Semiclassical modifications were developed for future study to account for the phase relation between independent orbits that lead to the same scattering direction.

Medium Modified Proton Densities Deduced From Electron Scattering Experiments, Steven Paul Deryke
Medium Modified Proton Densities Deduced From Electron Scattering Experiments, Steven Paul Deryke
Masters Theses
Recently two fundamental problems in nuclear physics have been resolved by applying the concept of nucleon size increases over that of free nucleons. These successes have encouraged the use of medium-modified proton densities to explain the differences between Hartree-Fock calculations and experimental charge densities. These differences constituted a long standing problem in nuclear physics.
The covariant soliton model of density dependent nucleon form factors was employed to explain these differences. This model predicts a non-linear relationship between point proton densities and charge densities. This work was able to provide a self-consistent proton density for 208Pb by inverting this relationship. …
The Pauli Operator Correction In The Effective Λn Interaction, Jaleh Owliaei
The Pauli Operator Correction In The Effective Λn Interaction, Jaleh Owliaei
Masters Theses
Hypernuclear structure calculations performed for 6ΛLi, 7ΛLi, and 16Λ0 have reproduced the 1Λ=1 levels inferred from the recent (k, Π) reactions. However the 1Λ=0, groundstate of 16Λ0 is overbound by 6 MeV in these calculations, indicating a density dependence in the effective ΛN interaction in the interior of the heavier system. In this work corrections to the 16Λ0 effective interaction are introduced in terms of a Brueckner-Goldstone G-matrix with a modified Pauli operator. The G-matrix of 16Λ0 derived from that of 6ΛLi …

Safety Evaluation Report Related To The Renewal Of The Operating License For The Triga Training And Research Reactor At The University Of Utah, United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Office Of Nuclear Reactor Regulations
Radioactive Materials
This Safety Evaluation Report for the application filed by the University of Utah (UU) for a renewal of operating license R-126 to continue to operate a training and research reactor facility has been prepared by the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The facility is owned and operated by the University of Utah and is located on its campus in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. The staff concludes that this training reactor facility can continue to be operated by UU without endangering the health and safety of the public.

Narrow 0+ State In 20Ne And 06+ And 07+ Rotational Bands, H. T. Richards, G. Caskey, J. H. Billen, S. R. Riedhauser, Daniel J. Steck

A reanalysis of old data removes the (0+,2+) ambiguity for a very narrow state at Ex(20Ne)=11.55 MeV and gives a unique 0+ assignment. Such a 0+ state corresponds well to a predicted state at 11.494 MeV of unusually small reduced widths for decay to both the ground and first excited state of 16O. This new 0+ state is a better 06+ band head for the 8p-4h states at 15.159 MeV (6+) and 18.538 MeV (8+) than the currently accepted 0+ state …
Modeling Charge Diffusion From Proton-Induced Ionization Tracks In Silicon Photodiode Arrays, Lee Cole Smith
Modeling Charge Diffusion From Proton-Induced Ionization Tracks In Silicon Photodiode Arrays, Lee Cole Smith
Physics Theses & Dissertations
We are modeling the combined problem of generation and collection of charge carriers created during passage of energetic protons through a silicon photodiode array. We have also experimentally obtained pulse-height distributions of noise charge collected during exposure of a Digicon-type diode array to 21 and 75 MeV protons. It is shown that the magnitude of charge collected by a diode from each proton event is determined not only by diffusion, but by statistical considerations involving the ionization process itself. Utilizing analytical solutions to the diffusion equation for transport of minority carriers, together with the Vavilov-Landau theory of energy-loss fluctuations in …

Six 20Ne levels have been investigated in detail via the 16O+α channel between 6.9≤Eα≤10.2 MeV. Level parameters for states at Ex(20Ne)=10.264±0.008, 11.077±0.008, 11.259±0.008, 11.552±0.008,12.237±0.008, and 12.390±0.008 MeV have been extracted from γ decay properties and phase shift analysis of the elastic scattering. With the exception of the 11.552 and 12.39 MeV states, these levels display primarily TT=0 states, several other weak γ decaying resonances were observed at 11.97 ± 0.04, 12.05 ± 0.04, and 12.49 ± 0.02 MeV but were not studied in detail. Charge dependent matrix elements (4-120 …

Supersaturated Zincate Solutions, W. Van Doorne, T. P. Dirkse
University Faculty Publications and Creative Works
A study of supersaturated zincate solutions is made using light scattering and nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The results indicate strongly that the excess zinc is present as a solute species rather than in a colloidal form. The solute species appears to be the same as that in solutions of ZnO in aqueous KOH, viz., Zn(OH)42-. There is no strong evidence to indicate the presence of other solute species.
