Duke and Ghate independently studied the question of when it is possible for the product of two eigenforms to be an eigenform. In this dissertation, we take up a generalization of that question, namely is it possible for the product of two eigenforms to be equal to a different product of two eigenforms? Under this formulation, the question becomes closer to one about unique factorization, i.e., how closely do eigenforms work like irreducible elements? Our conjecture is that there are only finitely many cases where the product of two eigenforms is equal to a different product of two eigenforms, and …

Identities of integer partitions generally state that two dissimilar appearing families of partitions are in fact equinumerous when both are restricted to any fixed size. Euler's theorem is a classic example of such an identity, which equates the number of partitions with odd parts to the number of partitions with distinct parts. Lately, analogs of known partition identities involving weights other than size have begun to attract research interest. This dissertation is an investigation of two such weights. In Chapter 2, we study Schmidt weights, which count only parts with indices belonging to some given subset of the positive integers. …

Preliminary identities in the theory of basic hypergeometric series, or `q-series', are proven. These include q-analogues of the exponential function, which lead to a fairly simple proof of Jacobi's celebrated triple product identity due to Andrews. The Dedekind eta function is introduced and a few identities of it derived. Euler's pentagonal number theorem is shown as a special case of Ramanujan's theta function and Watson's quintuple product identity is proved in a manner given by Carlitz and Subbarao. Our main results are asymptotic zero-one laws satisfied by the diagrams of unimodal sequences of positive integers. These diagrams consist of columns of squares in the plane; the upper boundary is called the shape. For various types of unimodal sequences, we show that, as the number of squares tends to infinity, 100% of shapes are near a certain curve---that is, there is a single limit shape. Similar phenomena have been well-studied for integer partitions, but several technical difficulties arise in the extension of such asymptotic statistical laws to unimodal sequences. We give two general transformations that allows certain quite general basic hypergeometric multi-sums of arbitrary depth (sums that involve an arbitrary sequence {g(k)}), to be reduced to an infinite q-product times a single basic hypergeometric sum. Various applications are given, including summation formulae for some q orthogonal polynomials, and various multisums that are expressible as infinite products.

Let pr,s(n) denote the number of partitions of a positive integer n into parts containing no multiples of r or s, where r > 1 and s > 1 are square-free, relatively prime integers. We use classical methods to derive a Hardy-Ramanujan-Rademacher-type infinite series for pr,s(n).
