A New Algorithm For Solving Shortest Path Problem On A Network With Imprecise Edge Weight, Amit Kumar, Manjot Kumar

Nayeem and Pal (Shortest path problem on a network with imprecise edge weight, Fuzzy Optimization and Decision Making 4, 293-312, 2005) proposed a new algorithm for solving shortest path problem on a network with imprecise edge weight. In this paper the shortcomings of the existing algorithm, (Nayeem and Pal, 2005) are pointed out and to overcome these shortcomings a new algorithm is proposed. To show the advantages of the proposed algorithm over existing algorithm the numerical examples presented in (Nayeem and Pal, 2005) are solved using the proposed algorithm and obtained results are discussed.

The geodesic equations of a class of right invariant metrics on the semi-direct product of two Diff(S) groups are studied. The equations are explicitly described, they have the form of a system of coupled equations of Camassa-Holm type and possess singular (peakon) solutions. Their integrability is further investigated, however no compatible bi-Hamiltonian structures on the corresponding dual Lie algebra are found.

It is shown that there are examples of distinct polyhedra, each with a Hamiltonian path of edges, which when cut, unfolds the surfaces to a common net. In particular, it is established for infinite classes of triples of tetrahedra.

The equations of two dimensional incompressible steady micro-polar fluid flows through a porous medium are studied. Lie group analysis is employed and the solutions corresponding to the translational symmetry are developed. A boundary value problem is investigated and the results are sketched graphically. The effect on the flow of the porosity coefficient of the porous medium and the micro-polar parameters are observed.

In the study of list colorings of graphs, we assume each vertex of a graph has a specified list of colors from which it may be colored. For planar graphs, it is known that there is a coloring for any list assignment where each list contains five colors. If we have some vertices that are precolored, can we extend this to a coloring of the entire graph? We explore distance constraints when we allow the lists to contain an extra color. In 1964, Paul Cohn showed that if F is a finitely-generated free group, and Q a field, then all ideals in the group ring Q[F] are free as Q[F]-modules. In particular, all finitely-generated submodules of free Q[F]-modules are free. In 1990, Cynthia Hog-Angeloni reproved this theorem using techniques from geometric group theory. Leaning on Hog-Angeloni's methods, we prove an analogous statement for crossed products D * F, with D a division ring.

This thesis presents an efficient algorithm for recognizing and extracting sharp-features from polygonal shapes. As used here, a sharp-feature is a distinct portion of a polygon that is long and skinny. The algorithm executes in O(n^2) time, where n is the number of vertices in the polygon. Experimental results from a Java implementation of the algorithm are also presented.

We present recently discovered connections between integer optimization, or integer programming (IP), and homology. Under reasonable assumptions, these results lead to efficient solutions of several otherwise hard-to-solve problems from computational topology and geometric analysis. The main result equates the total unimodularity of the boundary matrix of a simplicial complex to an algebraic topological condition on the complex (absence of relative torsion), which is often satisfied in real-life applications . When the boundary matrix is totally unimodular, the problem of finding the shortest chain homologous under Z (ring of integers) to a given chain, which is inherently an integer program, can …

Let C be a simple, closed, directed curve on the surface of a convex polyhedron P. We identify several classes of curves C that "live on a cone," in the sense that C and a neighborhood to one side may be isometrically embedded on the surface of a cone Lambda, with the apex a of Lambda enclosed inside (the image of) C; we also prove that each point of C is "visible to" a. We consider two algorithms for the computation of Lyapunov exponents for systems of ordinary dierential equations: orbit separation and continuous Gram-Schmidt orthonormal-ization. We also consider two Runge-Kutta methods for the solution of ordinary dierential equations. These algorithms and methods are applied to four three-dimensional systems of ordinary dierential equations, and the results are discussed.

This activity is an investigation of a special nonregular tetrahedron that can be arranged to fill space without leaving any internal gaps in the same way that certain planar figures tessellate the plane. These tetrahedra can be connected together with hinges to make fun and interesting puzzles. Springer varieties appear in both geometric representation theory and knot theory. Motivated by knot theory and categorification, Khovanov provides a topological construction of (m,m) Springer varieties. Here we extend his construction to all two-row Springer varieties. Using the combinatorial and diagrammatic properties of this construction we provide a particularly useful homology basis and construct the Springer representation using this basis. We also provide a skein-theoretic formulation of the representation in this case.

In this book the notion of interval semirings are introduced. The authors study and analyse semirings algebraically. Methods are given for the construction of non-associative semirings using loops and interval semirings or interval loops and semirings. Another type of non-associative semirings are introduced using groupoids and interval semirings or interval groupoids and semirings. Examples using integers and modulo integers are given. In this work we show that the systems of balance equations (balance systems) of continuum thermodynamics occupy a natural place in the variational bicomplex formalism. We apply the vertical homotopy decomposition to get a local splitting (in a convenient domain) of a general balance system as the sum of a Lagrangian part and a complemental "pure non-Lagrangian" balance system. In the case when derivatives of the dynamical fields do not enter the constitutive relations of the balance system, the "pure non-Lagrangian" systems coincide with the systems introduced by S. Godunov [Soviet Math. Dokl. 2 (1961), 947–948] and, later, asserted as …
