A theory combining explanations for the nature of three-dimensional systems and evolutionary processes is advanced, set to a geometric simulation, and then discussed in the context of several empirical studies bearing on its validity. The concept “evolution” is first discussed, then related to Baruch de Spinoza’s ideas on natural philosophy, including his concept of the conatus. These ideas are then extended by posing the possible existence of a general form of natural systems subsystemization leading to the extended space condition. The Berry phase [3] is traditionally understood as a geometric phase acquired during cyclic adiabatic evolution, often interpreted as the flux of an effective “magnetic field” through a solid angle in parameter space. In this thesis, we investigate situations in which a geometric phase arises even when no spatial solid angle is enclosed, revealing the limitations of the standard purely spatial interpretation. We first review the Berry phase for a spin-½ particle in a slowly varying magnetic field and analyze scenarios in which the system’s eigenstate is changed during the adiabatic evolution. We introduce the notion of Raney morphism between MT-algebras and show that the resulting category is equivalent to the category of Raney extensions. This is done by generalizing the construction of the Funayama envelope of a frame. The resulting notion of the T0-hull of a Raney extension generalizes that of the TD-hull of a frame.

This paper presents two performance optimization techniques for a mesh adaptation method that is designed to help streamline the discretization of complex vascular geometries within the numerical modeling process. This method is integrated into a pipeline with an image-to-mesh conversion tool to generate adaptive anisotropic meshes from segmented medical images. The pipeline is shown to satisfy quality, fidelity, smoothness, and robustness requirements while providing near real-time performance for medical image-to-mesh conversion. Tested with two brain aneurysm cases and utilizing up to 96 CPU cores within a single, multicore node on Purdue University’s Anvil supercomputer, the parallel adaptive anisotropic meshing method …

Various computational models of first impressions have been developed to uncover the mechanisms driving these judgments. However, the implicit notion of a singular ``human'' often overlooks meaningful individual differences in beliefs, attitudes, and associations, as well as culturally grounded group-level constructs. In this paper, we extend Cultural Consensus Theory (CCT) to estimate culturally shared beliefs about faces by incorporating latent constructs structured around interpretable facial features extracted via computer vision algorithms. We apply our model to a large-scale dataset of people’s first impressions of faces. Our approach reveals a robust mapping between facial features and culturally constructed impressions, allowing us …

In Gil-Férez et al. (2025), we presented a proof of Postulate 4 using purely Euclidean techniques, against which Blåsjö (2025) raised several objections. In this note, we offer linguistic, textual, historical, and mathematical evidence that demonstrate that all these objections are baseless.

A tiling T of the Euclidean plane (E2) is a countable collection of closed topological disks called tiles T = {Ti : i ∈ N} that is a covering (Ui Ti = E2) as well as a packing (Int(Ti) ∩ Int(Tj) = ∅ if i ̸= j, Int(T) denotes the interior of tile T). Completions play an important rôle for studying structure by supplying elements that in some sense “ought to be.” Among these, the Dedekind-MacNeille completion is of particular importance. In 1968 Janowitz provided necessary and sufficient conditions for it to be subfit or Boolean. Another natural separation axiom connected to these is regularity. We explore similar characterizations of when closely related completions are subfit, regular, or Boolean. We are mainly interested in the Bruns-Lakser, ideal, and canonical completions, which (unlike the Dedekind-MacNeille completion) satisfy stronger forms of distributivity. We discuss some classical conundrums about Euclid's Fourth Postulate. Our inquire sheds lights on the role the postulate is playing within the deductive structure of Book I of the Elements and provides a proof of it fully admissible within Euclid's original setting.

In this paper, we derive general identities for how these operations interact with each other. In this article we analyze the fine structure of the essential extensions of an object of W, the category of divisible archimedean lattice ordered groups with designated weak units. In particular, we show that an object Ghas an ordinally indexed sequence {ταG}δG of essential extensions with the following features. τ0G is (isomorphic to) the identity function on G.

In this thesis, we discuss several properties of Möbius transformations and hyperbolic geometry, a type of non-Euclidean geometry, in the upper half-plane using tools of complex analysis. We begin with preliminaries for our work, comprising the stereographic projection, the representation of circles and lines in the complex plane, conformal maps, and a result on cross-products, which we include for further development. We proceed to Möbius transformations and discuss their properties, cross-ratios, and various mappings. We additionally provide useful calculations. Lastly, we conclude with the hyperbolic metric in the upper half-plane and explore hyperbolic distance, including its invariance under Möbius transformations. …

In the spirit of Pisanski (1989) we consider orientable quadrilateral embeddings of Cartesian products of cycles on surfaces. We offer a constructive example of such an embedding of three low-order cycles. Then we show more generally that such embeddings exist for the product of a 2-cycle, and even cycle, and an arbitrary third cycle. We represent our graphs using rotation schemes to show this existence. Use of rotation schemes led to the ultimate characterization of our findings visually, providing conjectures for generalizations of products of three cycles.

When a gas is overvolted at or near atmospheric pressure, it results in a streamer discharge formation. Electrode geometries exert significant impact on the electrical breakdown of gases by altering the spatial profile of the electric field. In many applications the efficient generation of radicals is critical and is determined by the characteristics of the streamer discharge. We examine the effect of electrode geometry on the streamer characteristics and the production of radicals. This is performed for three different electrode geometries: plane–plane, pin–plane, and pin–pin. This paper explain how the geometric notions of local contractibility and properness are related to the Σ-types and Π-types constructors of dependent type theory. We shall see how every Grothendieck fibration comes canonically with such a pair of notions—called smooth and proper maps—and how this recovers the previous examples and many more. This paper uses category theory to reveal a common structure between geometry and logic, with the hope that the parallel will be beneficial to both fields. The style is mostly expository, and the main results are proved in external references.

Intraplate seismicity represents a notable occurrence within the stable North American Craton. This research explores the potential sources of stresses that could reactivate older faults and influence seismic activity within this region. Among these sources, the enduring impact of the last glacial period is considered, which includes continued glacial isostatic adjustments (GIA). During GIA the lithosphere rebounds due to the retreating ice, and the forebulge caused by far-field flexure in response to the glacial load, collapses. This results in significant faulting, fracturing, and seismic activity associated with the deglaciation phase. The adjustment of the lithosphere manifests as both near surface …

This study investigated the effects of using Low Floor High Ceiling (LFHC) mathematical tasks on students’ conceptual understanding and procedural fluency in seventh-grade Geometry by closely examining pre-test and posttest results. Two intact classes composed of thirty-two grade 7 students in each class participated in the study. The control group was taught and had practice using conventional, algorithmic tasks while the experimental group was taught and had practice using LFHC mathematical tasks. Data analysis revealed that, as compared to students exposed to algorithmic problems, students exposed to LFHC activities were much more mathematically proficient in Geometry, at the very least …

We discover a bi-harmonic map’ existence, its energy growth, and its connections to a harmonic map. First, we prove the existence of a nontrivial bi-harmonic map in a unit sphere. Second, we investigate the p-balanced energy growth of biharmonic maps. As the most important energy technical breakthroughs, we propose an innovative energy algorithm called p-balanced energy technique to break the constraints of the existing L^q-energy technique in detecting L^q-energy growth towards boundlessness. The disadvantage of the finite L^q -energy technique in the L ^q spaces is not effective in dealing with infinite L^q- energy in Non-L^q spaces. Third, we study …

In this note a definition of umbilic point at infinity is proposed, at least for surfaces that are homogeneous polynomial graphs over a plane in Euclidean 3-space. This is a stronger definition than that of Toponogov in his study of complete convex surfaces, and allows one to distinguish between different umbilic points at infinity. It is proven that all such umbilic points at infinity are isolated, that they occur in pairs and are the zeroes of the projective extension of the third fundamental form, as developed in Guilfoyle and Ortiz-Rodríguez (Math Proc R Ir Acad 123A(2), 63–94, 2023). This thesis is concerned with discrete isoperimetric inequalities and Hilbert functions. Two generalizations of the Ahlswede-Cai local global principle are presented. These results give positive answers to two questions posed by Harper. One of these results is achieved by proving uniqueness of the lexicographic and colexicographic orders in two dimensions. The other result generalizes the technique which is commonly known as compression and includes almost all previously published results in this direction. Nonlocal models have experienced a large period of growth in recent years. In particular, nonlocal models centered around a finite horizon have been the subject of many novel results. In this work we consider three nonlocal operators defined via a finite horizon: a weighted averaging operator in one dimension, an averaging differential operator, and the truncated Riesz fractional gradient. We primarily explore the kernel of each of these operators when we restrict to open sets. We discuss how the topological structure of the domain can give insight into the behavior of these operators, and more specifically the structure of their …
