In this article Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM) is applied to obtain an approximate analytical solution of a fractional diffusion equation with an external force and a reaction term different from the reaction term used by Das and Gupta (2010). The anomalous behavior of diffusivity in presence or absence of linear external force due to the presence of this force of reaction term are obtained and presented graphically.

The present paper deals with the wavelet transform of fractional integral operator (the Riemann- Liouville operators) on Boehmian spaces. By virtue of the existing relation between the wavelet transform and the Fourier transform, we obtained integrable Boehmians defined on the Boehmian space for the wavelet transform of fractional integrals.

A collocation procedure is developed for the linear and nonlinear Volterra integral equations, using the globally defined Sinc and auxiliary basis functions. We analytically show the exponential convergence of the Sinc collocation method for approximate solution of Volterra integral equations. Numerical examples are included to confirm applicability and justify rapid convergence of our method.

In this dissertation, we first focus on the generalized Laplace transform on time scales. We prove several properties of the generalized exponential function which will allow us to explore some of the fundamental properties of the Laplace transform. We then give a description of the region in the complex plane for which the improper integral in the definition of the Laplace transform converges, and how this region is affected by the time scale in question. Conditions under which the Laplace transform of a power series can be computed term-by-term are given. We develop a formula for the Laplace transform for …

The Gibbs phenomenon refers to the lack of uniform convergence which occurs in many orthogonal basis approximations to piecewise smooth functions. This lack of uniform convergence manifests itself in spurious oscillations near the points of discontinuity and a low order of convergence away from the discontinuities.In previous work [11,12] we described a numerical procedure for overcoming the Gibbs phenomenon called the Inverse Wavelet Reconstruction method (IWR). In this paper, we get exact solution of the time-fractional advection-dispersion equation with reaction term, where the Caputo fractional derivative is considered of order α ϵ (0,2]. The solution is achieved by using a function transform, Fourier and Laplace transforms to get the formulas of the fundamental solution, which are expressed explicitly in terms of Fox’s H-function by making use of the relationship between Fourier and Mellin transforms. As special cases the exact solutions of time-fractional diffusion and wave equations are also obtained, and the solutions of the integer order equations are mentioned.

Consider the tangential trace of a vector polynomial on the surface of a tetrahedron. We construct an extension operator that extends such a trace function into a polynomial on the tetrahedron. This operator can be continuously extended to the trace space of H(curl ). Furthermore, it satisfies a commutativity property with an extension operator we constructed in Part I of this series. Such extensions are a fundamental ingredient of high order finite element analysis.

Certain expansion formulae for a basic analogue of the Fox’s H-function have been derived by the applications of the q-Leibniz rule for the Weyl type q-derivatives of a product of two functions. Expansion formulae involving a basic analogue of Meijer’s G-function and MacRobert’s E-function have been derived as special cases of the main results.

The finite element method when applied to a second order partial differential equation in divergence form can generate operators that are neither Hermitian nor definite when the coefficient function is complex valued. For such problems, under a uniqueness assumption, we prove the continuous dependence of the exact solution and its finite element approximations on data provided that the coefficients are smooth and uniformly bounded away from zero. Then we show that a multigrid algorithm converges once the coarse mesh size is smaller than some fixed number, providing an efficient solver for computing discrete approximations. An inverse boundary determination problem for a parabolic model, arising in thermal imaging, is considered. The focus is on intelligently choosing an effective input heat flux, so as to maximize the practical effectiveness of an inversion algorithm. Three different methods, based on different interpretations of the term “effective", are presented and analyzed, then demonstrated through numerical examples. It is noteworthy that each of these flux-selection methods is independent of the particular inversion algorithm to be used.

The standard continuous Galerkin (CG) finite element method for second order elliptic problems suffers from its inability to provide conservative flux approximations, a much needed quantity in many applications. We show how to overcome this shortcoming by using a two step postprocessing. The first step is the computation of a numerical flux trace defined on element inter- faces and is motivated by the structure of the numerical traces of discontinuous Galerkin methods. This computation is non-local in that it requires the solution of a symmetric positive definite system, but the system is well conditioned independently of mesh size, so it …

We investigate some simple finite element discretizations for the axisymmetric Laplace equation and the azimuthal component of the axisymmetric Maxwell equations as well as multigrid algorithms for these discretizations. Our analysis is targeted at simple model problems and our main result is that the standard V-cycle with point smoothing converges at a rate independent of the number of unknowns. This is contrary to suggestions in the existing literature that line relaxations and semicoarsening are needed in multigrid algorithms to overcome difficulties caused by the singularities in the axisymmetric Maxwell problems. In this book, for the first time we introduce the notion of neutrosophic algebraic structures for groups, loops, semigroups and groupoids and also their neutrosophic N-algebraic structures. One is fully aware of the fact that many classical theorems like Lagrange, Sylow and Cauchy have been studied only in the context of finite groups. Here we try to shift the paradigm by studying and introducing these theorems to neutrosophic semigroups, neutrosophic groupoids, and neutrosophic loops. The main purpose of this paper is to investigate the asymptotic behavior of the discounted risk-sensitive control problem for periodic diffusion processes when the discount factor α goes to zero. If uα(θ, x) denotes the optimal cost function, being the risk factor, then it is shown that limα→0αuα(θ, x) = ξ(θ) where ξ(θ) is the average on ]0, θ[ of the optimal cost of the (usual) in nite horizon risk-sensitive control problem.

A new approach to error analysis of hybridized mixed methods is proposed and applied to study a new hybridized variable degree Raviart-Thomas method for second order elliptic problems. The approach gives error estimates for the Lagrange multipliers without using error estimates for the other variables. Error estimates for the primal and flux variables then follow from those for the Lagrange multipliers. In contrast, traditional error analyses obtain error estimates for the flux and primal variables first and then use it to get error estimates for the Lagrange multipliers. We introduce a method that gives exactly incompressible velocity approximations to Stokes ow in three space dimensions. The method is designed by extending the ideas in Part I (http://archives.pdx.edu/ds/psu/10914) of this series, where the Stokes system in two space dimensions was considered. Thus we hybridize a vorticity-velocity formulation to obtain a new mixed method coupling approximations of tangential velocity and pressure on mesh faces. Once this relatively small tangential velocity-pressure system is solved, it is possible to recover a globally divergence-free numerical approximation of the fluid velocity, an approximation of the vorticity whose tangential component is continuous across …

In this paper, we introduce a new and efficient way to compute exactly divergence-free velocity approximations for the Stokes equations in two space dimensions. We begin by considering a mixed method that provides an exactly divergence-free approximation of the velocity and a continuous approximation of the vorticity. We then rewrite this method solely in terms of the tangential fluid velocity and the pressure on mesh edges by means of a new hybridization technique. This novel formulation bypasses the difficult task of constructing an exactly divergence-free basis for velocity approximations. This paper considers a multigrid algorithm suitable for efficient solution of indefinite linear systems arising from finite element discretization of time harmonic Maxwell equations. In particular, a "backslash" multigrid cycle is proven to converge at rates independent of refinement level if certain indefinite block smoothers are used. The method of analysis involves comparing the multigrid error reduction operator with that of a related positive definite multigrid operator. In this paper, we give a new characterization of the approximate solution given by hybridized mixed methods for second order self-adjoint elliptic problems. We apply this characterization to obtain an explicit formula for the entries of the matrix equation for the Lagrange multiplier unknowns resulting from hybridization. We also obtain necessary and sufficient conditions under which the multipliers of the Raviart–Thomas and the Brezzi–Douglas–Marini methods of similar order are identical.
