The classical binary 4-point and 6-point interpolatery subdivision schemes are generalized to a-ary setting for any integer a greater than or equal to 3. These new a-ary subdivision schemes for curve design are derived easily from their corresponding two-scale scaling functions, a notion from the context of wavelets.

System of linear equations is applied for solving many problems in various areas of applied sciences. Fuzzy methods constitute an important mathematical and computational tool for modeling real-world systems with uncertainties of parameters. In this paper, we discuss about fully fuzzy linear systems in the form AX = b (FFLS). A novel method for finding the non-zero fuzzy solutions of these systems is proposed. We suppose that all elements of coefficient matrix A are positive and we employ parametric form linear system. Finally, Numerical examples are presented to illustrate this approach and its results are compared with other methods.

In this series of papers, we construct operators that extend certain given functions on the boundary of a tetrahedron into the interior of the tetrahedron, with continuity properties in appropriate Sobolev norms. These extensions are novel in that they have certain polynomial preservation properties important in the analysis of high order finite elements. This part of the series is devoted to introducing our new technique for constructing the extensions, and its application to the case of polynomial extensions from H½(∂K) into H¹(K), for any tetrahedron K.

A Mixed Method For Axisymmetric Div-Curl Systems, Dylan M. Copeland, Jay Gopalakrishnan, Joseph E. Pasciak

We present a mixed method for a three-dimensional axisymmetric div-curl system reduced to a two-dimensional computational domain via cylindrical coordinates. We show that when the meridian axisymmetric Maxwell problem is approximated by a mixed method using the lowest order Nédélec elements (for the vector variable) and linear elements (for the Lagrange multiplier), one obtains optimal error estimates in certain weighted Sobolev norms. The main ingredient of the analysis is a sequence of projectors in the weighted norms satisfying some commutativity properties.

The concept of supermatrix for social scientists was first introduced by Paul Horst. The main purpose of his book was to introduce this concept to social scientists, students, teachers and research workers who lacked mathematical training. A proper short exact sequence in the category of locally compact abelian groups is said to be t-pure if φ(A) is a topologically pure subgroup of B, that is, if for all positive integers n. We establish conditions under which t-pure exact sequences split and determine those locally compact abelian groups K ⊕ D (where K is compactly generated and D is discrete) which are t-pure injective or t-pure projective. One is fully aware of the fact that many classical theorems like Lagrange, Sylow and Cauchy have been studied only in the context of finite groups. Fuzzy theory is one of the best tools to analyze data, when the data under study is an unsupervised one, involving uncertainty coupled with imprecision. However, fuzzy theory cannot cater to analyzing the data involved with indeterminacy. The only tool that can involve itself with indeterminacy is the neutrosophic model. Neutrosophic models are used in the analysis of the socio-economic problems of HIV/AIDS infected women patients living in rural Tamil Nadu. A proper short exact sequence 0→H →G→K→0 (*) in the category of locally compact abelian groups is said to be topologically pure if the induced sequence 0→nH→nG→nK→0 is proper short exact for all positive integers n. Some characterizations of topologically pure sequences in terms of direct decompositions, pure extensions and tensor products are established. A simple proof is given for a theorem on pure subgroups by Hartman and Hulanickl. In this paper, quite tight lower and upper bounds are obtained on the algebraic connectivity, namely, the second-smallest eigenvalue of the Laplacian matrix, of an unweighted balanced binary tree with k levels and hence n = 2k - 1 vertices. This is accomplished by considering the inverse of a matrix of order k - 1 readily obtained from the Laplacian matrix. It is shown that the algebraic connectivity is 1/(2k - 2k + 3) + 0(1/22k).

A central question in the area of topological graph theory is to find the genus of a given graph. In particular, the genus parameter has been studied for Cayley graphs. A Cayley graph is a representation of a group and a fixed generating set for that group. A group is said to be planar if there is a generating set which produces a planar Cayley graph. A Warfield group is a direct summand of a simply presented abelian group. In this paper, we describe the Pontrjagin dual groups of Warfield groups, both for the p-local and the general case. A variety of characterizations of these dual groups is obtained. In addition, numerical invariants are given that distinguish between two such groups which are not topologically isomorphic.

Let A be a symmetric matrix and B be a nonnegative definite (nnd) matrix. We obtain a characterization of the class of nnd solutions Σ for the matrix equation AΣA = B. We then use the characterization to obtain all possible covariance structures under which the distributions of many common test statistics remain invariant, that is, the distributions remain the same except for a scale factor. Applications include a complete characterization of covariance structures such that the chisquaredness and independence of quadratic forms in ANOVA problems is preserved. The purpose of this paper is to derive the sharp Lipschitz constants for the feasible solutions and optimal solutions of a linear program with respect to right-hand-side perturbations. The Lipschitz constants are given in terms of pseudoinverses of submatrices of the matrices involved and are proven to be sharp.
