The Geology Of The Floras Creek Area, Curry County, Oregon, Jon Dudley Bounds
The Geology Of The Floras Creek Area, Curry County, Oregon, Jon Dudley Bounds
Dissertations and Theses
The Floras Creek area, east of the town of Langlois, near the southwest Oregon coast, includes Colebrooke Schist (a klippe of metamorphosed pelitic sediments of Jurassic age), Jurassic Otter Point Formation (a melange complex), and lower the middle Eocene Roseburg and Lookingglass Formations, part of a sandstone-shale sequence occurring more extensively in other areas. The Colebrooke Schist occurs in the south-central part of the area, bounded on the Otter Point and Roseburg. The Lookingglass is exposed as a small (1.5 sq. km) block in the north-north-west part of the area. Two major structural trends are found in the Floras Creek …

Gully, Scour Hole, And Pothole Development At The Base Of The Gering Formation (Miocene?), Southeastern Banner County, Nebraska, Robert F. Diffendal Jr.
Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications
Several sediment-filled paleovalleys belonging to the Arikaree Group of Miocene (?) age occur in southeastern Banner County, Nebraska. One gully and a main paleovalley exhibit, respectively, erosional features like those in modern gullies in the area and like those on the bedrock floors of modern straight streams carrying an appreciable sediment load. Scour holes and a pothole on the valley floor of the main paleovalley are similar to those produced experimentally on the bed of a straight stream.

A Preliminary Investigation Of The Lithological Characteristics Of The Troutdale Formation In Portions Of The Camas, Sandy, Washougal, And Bridal Veil Quadrangles, David Lee Cole
Dissertations and Theses
The study area encompasses a region of about 80 square kilometers, centered about Corbett, Oregon. Sieve analyses suggest that the Troutdale Formation is composed of a conglomerate, a coarse-grained sandstone, and a siltstone lithofacies. Measured sections data show that 56 to 60 percent of the Troutdale Formation's exposures are composed of the conglomerate lithofacies. The coarsegrained sandstone lithofacies makes up 34 to 38 percent, while the siltstone lithofacies makes up only 4 to 8 percent. Pebble count data show that the representation of basalt varies from 69 to 100 percent, with an average of 85 percent, while quartzite varies from …

Regional Implications Of The Geology Of The Ogallala Group (Upper Tertiary) Of Southwestern Morrill County, Nebraska, And Adjacent Areas, Robert F. Diffendal Jr.
Robert F. Diffendal, Jr., Publications
A part of a filled Ogallala Group (upper Tertiary) paleovalley system exhumed by recent stream erosion in southwestern Morrill County, Nebraska, and adjacent areas contains steep gradient gullies filled with locally derived sediments. Younger channels filled with granitic gravels derived by stream erosion of the Rocky Mountains to the west and southwest cut across and through these older filled gullies, indicating that there were at least two periods of downcutting followed by periods of filling during the development of this system.
Individual clasts from younger Ogallala gravels are often as large as or larger than clasts from Quaternary gravels transported …

Lithologic And Structural Controls On Karst Landforms Of The Mitchell Plain, Indiana, And Pennyroyal Plateau, Kentucky, Frederick Jennings Woodson
All-Inclusive List of Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Karst features in Harrison County, Indiana, and the Mammoth Cave region, Kentucky, are profoundly influenced by lithology and structure. In the Sinkhole Plain two classes of sinkholes, shallow solutional and deeper subsidence, differ in morphology, origin, age, distribution, and density. Distributions of the two kinds of sinkholes reflect the outcrop pattern of specific lithostratigraphic units. Broad shallow dolines (Ste. Genevieve-type sinks) develop on the Horse Cave Member of the St. Louis Limestone and on the Ste. Genevieve, Girkin, and Paoli Limestones. Innumerable steeper-sided subsidence and collapse depressions (St. Louis-type sinkholes) form on the Corydon Chert Member, lower St. Louis Limestone, …

Provenance And Description Of Landslide Masses, Rainbow Gardens Clark County, Nevada., Joseph R. Parolini
UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones
A landslide breccia of plutonic and metamorphic rocks located 20 km east of Las Vegas, Nevada is interstratified with the late Tertiary Thumb Formation. Rock types of similar mineral composition to the landslide masses in the Rainbow Gardens are found 60 km to the east in the Gold Butte (Nevada) area. The landslide masses were displaced into their present position by lateral strike-slip motion along either the left-lateral Lake Mead fault system or the right-lateral Las Vegas shear zone. In t.he Rainbow Gardens landslide masses, five plutonic rock types, including rapakivi granite, match rocks from the Gold Butte area, both …

The Structure, Geologic Evolution And Regional Significance Of The Bethel Creek-North Fork Area, Coos And Curry Counties, Oregon, Carl Fredrick Gullixson
Dissertations and Theses
The original purpose of this study was a detailed structural analysis of the Jurassic Otter Point Formation in order to determine if the Canyonville Fault Zone, which forms the northern boundary of the Klamath Mountains in the Riddle - Canyonville area (Benson and Perttu, 1980), extends westward to the coast and, if possible, to characterize the structure of the Otter Point Formation. Further, a detailed examination of the structural and stratigraphic relationships between the Otter Point Formation and the Eocene Roseburg and Lookingglass Formations was to be performed in an attempt to determine the tectonic history of the area.
