Microbiome Diversity And Metabolic Capacity Determines The Trophic Ecology Of The Holobiont In Caribbean Sponges, Michael P. Lesser, M. Sabrina Pankey, Marc Slattery, Keir J. Macartney, Deborah J. Gochfeld
Microbiome Diversity And Metabolic Capacity Determines The Trophic Ecology Of The Holobiont In Caribbean Sponges, Michael P. Lesser, M. Sabrina Pankey, Marc Slattery, Keir J. Macartney, Deborah J. Gochfeld
School of Earth, Environmental, & Marine Sciences Faculty Publications
Sponges are increasingly recognized as an ecologically important taxon on coral reefs, representing significant biomass and biodiversity where sponges have replaced scleractinian corals. Most sponge species can be divided into two symbiotic states based on symbiont community structure and abundance (i.e., the microbiome), and are characterized as high microbial abundance (HMA) or low microbial abundance (LMA) sponges. Across the Caribbean, sponge species of the HMA or LMA symbiotic states differ in metabolic capacity, as well as their trophic ecology. A metagenetic analysis of symbiont 16 S rRNA and metagenomes showed that HMA sponge microbiomes are more functionally diverse than LMA …

Environmental Controls On Carbon Biogeochemistry In Aquatic Systems, Lee Potter
Environmental Controls On Carbon Biogeochemistry In Aquatic Systems, Lee Potter
LSU Master's Theses
Carbon dioxide (CO2) outgassing from inland waters is a small but critical component of the global carbon cycle that is currently not well constrained. This thesis is composed of three interrelated studies with an overarching goal to further determine environmental factors impacting carbon dynamics in rivers and lakes. These studies utilized water samples and in situ measurements of pCO2 and ambient water parameters from the Lower Mississippi River at Baton Rouge and University Lake in Baton Rouge Louisiana, USA collected between January 2021 and August 2022. Additional Meteorological and hydrological data were download from public sources. Results …

Green Dairy, A Project For Environmental Friendly And Sustainable Dairy Systems In The Atlantic Area, H. Chambaut, A. Pflimlin, C. Raison
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Green Dairy is an European Interreg III B project which runs over 3 years. It brings together 10 research and development partners from 5 countries and 11 regions of the Atlantic Area which range from Scotland to Portugal. It aims to provide a better understanding of the impact of intensive dairy systems on the quality of the environment in order to develop ways of improving practices in the different regions. This is expected to encourage more rapid responses to the problems of deteriorating water and air quality and a more appropriate response within or between regional contexts that could be …
Rangeland Ecological Management Counter-Measures Study Of Xinjiang, H. X. Cui, J. Li, S. Asiya, J. L. Zhang, Jialin
Rangeland Ecological Management Counter-Measures Study Of Xinjiang, H. X. Cui, J. Li, S. Asiya, J. L. Zhang, Jialin
IGC Proceedings (1977-2023)
Xinjiang is located in the hinterland of the Asian-Euro continental area and far from the ocean. It is surrounded by mountains and forms a physiognomic landscape of two basins located in three mountains. This results in an extremely droughty continental climate and a harsh environment in the Temperate Zone. However, the geographical environment is diverse in the Xinjiang Autonomous region, the three high mountains and complicated geographical structure results in changes in ecological conditions with altitude and a diverse ecological environment. Because of the drought characteristics the desert area has developed different types of vegetation, and the complexity of the …
