Sla Evaluation And Composition In Reconfigurable Cloud-Based Services, Michael Iannelli
Sla Evaluation And Composition In Reconfigurable Cloud-Based Services, Michael Iannelli
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Given the business model of offering data and computing services in a cloud setting, a major question arises: How do the services of one cloud provider compare to those of others? With the ubiquitous use of smartphones and tablets, the ability of a cloud provider to support QoS and client mobility becomes paramount. This research proposes a methodology for evaluating service-level agreements (SLAs) between cloud providers and their consumers, with a particular focus on dynamic SLA composition to adapt to changes in the application requirements and the external environment—such as traffic surges, security threats, or evolving business models.

Performance Interference Detection For Cloud-Native Applications Using Unsupervised Machine Learning Models, Eli Bakshi
Performance Interference Detection For Cloud-Native Applications Using Unsupervised Machine Learning Models, Eli Bakshi
Master's Theses
Contemporary cloud-native applications frequently adopt the microservice architecture, where applications are deployed within multiple containers that run on cloud virtual machines (VMs). These applications are typically hosted on public cloud platforms, where VMs from multiple cloud subscribers compete for the same physical resources on a cloud server. When a cloud subscriber application running on a VM competes for shared physical resources from other applications running on the same VM or from other VMs co-located on the same cloud server, performance interference may occur when the performance of an application degrades due to shared resource contention. Detecting such interference is crucial …
Resource Management And Optimization Of Interactive Microservice And Mpi-Based Ensemble Applications In The Cloud, Md Rajib Hossen
Resource Management And Optimization Of Interactive Microservice And Mpi-Based Ensemble Applications In The Cloud, Md Rajib Hossen
Computer Science and Engineering Dissertations - Archive
As user-interactive applications in the cloud transition from monolithic services to agile microservice architectures, efficient resource management becomes a key challenge. The multitude of loosely coupled components and fluctuating traffic patterns make traditional cloud autoscaling methods ineffective. Existing machine learning-based approaches, while attempting to address this, often require extensive training data and can lead to intentional violations of service level objectives (SLOs). To tackle these challenges, I propose PEMA (Practical Efficient Microservice Autoscaling), a lightweight resource manager for microservices. PEMA aims to optimize resource allocation through opportunistic resource reduction, considering the intricate dependencies between microservices.
On another front, scientific workflows …
Towards A Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Cloud Through Operable Digital Twins And Virtual Production Lines, Md Rakib Shahriar
Towards A Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Cloud Through Operable Digital Twins And Virtual Production Lines, Md Rakib Shahriar
Graduate Theses and Dissertations
In last decade, the paradigm of Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) has integrated industrial manufacturing systems with Cloud Computing technologies for Cloud Manufacturing. Up to 2015, there were many CPS-based manufacturing systems that collected real-time machining data to perform remote monitoring, prognostics and health management, and predictive maintenance. However, these CPS-integrated and network ready machines were not directly connected to the elements of Cloud Manufacturing and required human-in-the-loop. Addressing this gap, we introduced a new paradigm of Cyber-Physical Manufacturing Cloud (CPMC) that bridges a gap between physical machines and virtual space in 2017. CPMC virtualizes machine tools in cloud through web services …

SMU Data Science Review
In this paper, we help NASA solve three Exploration Mission-1 (EM-1) challenges: data storage, computation time, and visualization of complex data. NASA is studying one year of trajectory data to determine available launch opportunities (about 90TBs of data). We improve data storage by introducing a cloud-based solution that provides elasticity and server upgrades. This migration will save $120k in infrastructure costs every four years, and potentially avoid schedule slips. Additionally, it increases computational efficiency by 125%. We further enhance computation via machine learning techniques that use the classic orbital elements to predict valid trajectories. Our machine learning model decreases trajectory …
Applications Of Fog Computing In Video Streaming, Kyle Smith
Applications Of Fog Computing In Video Streaming, Kyle Smith
Computer Science and Computer Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
The purpose of this paper is to show the viability of fog computing in the area of video streaming in vehicles. With the rise of autonomous vehicles, there needs to be a viable entertainment option for users. The cloud fails to address these options due to latency problems experienced during high internet traffic. To improve video streaming speeds, fog computing seems to be the best option. Fog computing brings the cloud closer to the user through the use of intermediary devices known as fog nodes. It does not attempt to replace the cloud but improve the cloud by allowing faster …

Hundreds of millions of network cameras have been installed throughout the world. Each is capable of providing a vast amount of real-time data. Analyzing the massive data generated by these cameras requires significant computational resources and the demands may vary over time. Cloud computing shows the most promise to provide the needed resources on demand. In this article, we investigate how to allocate cloud resources when analyzing real-time data streams from network cameras. A resource manager considers many factors that affect its decisions, including the types of analysis, the number of data streams, and the locations of the cameras. The …

Green Cloud - Load Balancing, Load Consolidation Using Vm Migration, Manh Duc Do
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Recently, cloud computing is a new trend emerging in computer technology with a massive demand from the clients. To meet all requirements, a lot of cloud data centers have been constructed since 2008 when Amazon published their cloud service. The rapidly growing data center leads to the consumption of a tremendous amount of energy even cloud computing has better improved in the performance and energy consumption, but cloud data centers still absorb an immense amount of energy. To raise company’s income annually, the cloud providers start considering green cloud concepts which gives an idea about how to optimize CPU’s usage …
Building A Scalable Global Data Processing Pipeline For Large Astronomical Photometric Datasets, Paul Doyle
Building A Scalable Global Data Processing Pipeline For Large Astronomical Photometric Datasets, Paul Doyle

Astronomical photometry is the science of measuring the flux of a celestial object. Since its introduction, the CCD has been the principle method of measuring flux to calculate the apparent magnitude of an object. Each CCD image taken must go through a process of cleaning and calibration prior to its use. As the number of research telescopes increases the overall computing resources required for image processing also increases. Existing processing techniques are primarily sequential in nature, requiring increasingly powerful servers, faster disks and faster networks to process data. Existing High Performance Computing solutions involving high capacity data centres are complex …
