Gradient Descent Localization In Wireless Sensor Networks, Nuha A.S. Alwan, Zahir M. Hussain

Research outputs 2014 to 2021

Meaningful information sharing between the sensors of a wireless sensor network (WSN) necessitates node localization, especially if the information to be shared is the location itself, such as in warehousing and information logistics. Trilateration and multilateration positioning methods can be employed in two-dimensional and threedimensional space respectively. These methods use distance measurements and analytically estimate the target location; they suffer from decreased accuracy and computational complexity especially in the three-dimensional case. Iterative optimization methods, such as gradient descent (GD), offer an attractive alternative and enable moving target tracking as well. This chapter focuses on positioning in three dimensions using time-of-arrival …

On The Effectiveness Of Intrusions Into Zigbee-Based Wireless Sensor Networks, Michael Johnstone, Jeremy Jarvis Jan 2012

On The Effectiveness Of Intrusions Into Zigbee-Based Wireless Sensor Networks, Michael Johnstone, Jeremy Jarvis

Research outputs 2012

Wireless Sensor Networks are becoming popular as a means of collecting data by military organisations, public utilities, motor vehicle manufacturers and security firms. Unfortunately, the devices on such networks are often insecure by default, which creates problems in terms of the confidentiality and integrity of data transmitted across such networks. This paper discusses attacks that were successful on a simple network consisting of nodes using the ZigBee protocol stack and proposes defences to thwart these attacks, thus leading to increased user confidence in the ability of organisations to provide secure and effective services. The outcomes were that it was possible …

An Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Controller For Intelligent Networking And Control, Irshad Nainar Jan 1996

An Adaptive Fuzzy Logic Controller For Intelligent Networking And Control, Irshad Nainar

Theses: Doctorates and Masters

In this thesis, we present a fuzzy logic control scheme to regulate the flow of traffic approaching a set of intersections. An adaptive Fuzzy Logic Traffic Controller (FLTC) is used to adjust the green phase split of the north-south and east-west approaches of a set of traffic signals based on the actual traffic approaching the intersection. Each intersection is coordinated with its neighbouring intersections by adjusting the offset of the local intersection. The offset is adjusted by a local fuzzy logic controller loacted at each intersection. A new fuzzy control scheme, using a supervisory Fuzzy Logic Controller, is also proposed …
