Abstract: The performance of track-before-detect (TBD) algorithm based on standard Hough Transform is not satisfied due to low detection probability and long elapsed time. For this problem, an Ergodic Hough Transform based TBD method was proposed. The raw radar echo whose amplitude exceeded the first threshold was stored separately and stacked into a data space; all diferent data were combined to calculate line parameter which then was mapped into a parameter space and the amplitude of each paired wae added to an accumulator. All cells whose amplitude exceeded the second threshold was used to estimate the last line parameter and …

Test Data Compression Based On Logical Operationand Dimidiate Partition, Wu Qiong, Huang Li
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: A new test data compression based on logical operation and dimidiate partition was proposed. The whole test was partitioned to several length-fixed blocks. Then logical operation was applied into runs of Is or 0s or alternating bits. They were turned into all 0s. For the others, dimidiate partition technique was used until they got to the minimum length. The length of code words could be expressed by the times of dimidiate and it is easy to coding when they are turned into all 0s. Compared with traditional data-coding methods the depression structure is simple and reduced the costs of …

New Identify Based Proxy Signature Scheme, Xiaojing Hong, Bin Wang
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: Proxy signature schemes allow a proxy signer to generate proxy signatures on behalf of an original signer. Mambo, et ah first introduced the notion of proxy signature and a lot of research work can be found on this topic nowadays. To simplify key management, many identity based proxy signature schemes were proposed. However, some existing schemes are vulnerable to proxy key exposure attack. It is necessary to propose a security model for identity based proxy signature schemes against proxy key exposure attack. Then an efficient scheme based on pairings was presented, which is provably secure in the random oracle …

Evaluation And Analysis Of New Method Of Measurement Of Target Scattering Matrix, Zhenyu Huang, Zhao Bo, Huanyao Dai, Liandong Wang, Xuequan Zhou
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The basic theory of radar polarization signal processing is measurement of the target scattering matrix. The current algorithm of measurement of the target scattering matrix is gotten through orthogonal dual polarization channel in time-sharing or simultaneously, which demands orthogonal polarization measurement signals with complex coding. The measuring accuracy is higher. The complexity and the cost of the system are relatively higher. Scattering matrix can also be obtained by making use of the spatial polarization characteristics of the antenna to processing the radar echo without structure reformation of the radar. It only. needs to renewal measurement technology. The comparison and …

Computational Utilities For The Game Of Simplicial Nim, Nelson Penn
Theses and Dissertations--Computer Science
Simplicial nim games, a class of impartial games, have very interesting mathematical properties. Winning strategies on a simplicial nim game can be determined by the set of positions in the game whose Sprague-Grundy values are zero (also zero positions). In this work, I provide two major contributions to the study of simplicial nim games. First, I provide a modern and efficient implementation of the Sprague-Grundy function for an arbitrary simplicial complex, and discuss its performance and scope of viability. Secondly, I provide a method to find a simple mathematical expression to model that function if it exists. I show the …

Graduate Theses, Dissertations, and Problem Reports (ETD)
Ever since the beginning of research journals, the number of academic publications has been increasing steadily. Nowadays, especially, with the new importance of online open-access journals and databases, research papers are more easily available to read and share. It also becomes harder to keep up with novelties and grasp an idea of the general impact of a given researcher, institution, journal, or field. For this reason, different bibliometric indicators are now routinely used to classify and evaluate the impact or significance of individual researchers, conferences, journals, or entire scientific communities. In this thesis, we provide tools to study trends in …

Inference Of Surface Velocities From Oblique Time Lapse Photos And Terrestrial Based Lidar At The Helheim Glacier, Franklyn T. Dunbar Ii
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
Using time dependent observations derived from terrestrial LiDAR and oblique
time-lapse imagery, we demonstrate that a Bayesian approach to glacial motion es-
timation provides a concise way to incorporate multiple data products into a single
motion estimation procedure effectively producing surface velocity estimates with
an associated uncertainty. This approach brings both improved computational effi-
ciency, and greater scalability across observational time-frames when compared to
existing methods. To gauge efficacy, we apply these methods to a set of observa-
tions from the Helheim Glacier, a critical actor in contemporary mass loss trends
observed in the Greenland Ice Sheet. We find that …

Modelling is a way of constructing a virtual representation of software and hardware that involves a real-world device. We will discover the behaviour of the system if the software elements of this model are guided by mathematical relationships. For testing conditions that may be difficult to replicate with hardware prototypes alone, modelling and simulation are particularly useful, especially in the early phase of the design process when hardware might not be available. Model-based approach in MATLAB-Simulink can be useful for predictive maintenance of machines as it can reduce unplanned downtimes and maintenance costs when industrial equipment breaks. Through this bibliometric …

Statistical Modeling Of Hpc Performance Variability And Communication, Jered B. Dominguez-Trujillo
Computer Science ETDs
Understanding the performance of parallel and distributed programs remains a focal point in determining how compute systems can be optimized to achieve exascale performance. Lightweight, statistical models allow developers to both characterize and predict performance trade-offs, especially as HPC systems become more heterogeneous with many-core CPUs and GPUs. This thesis presents a lightweight, statistical modeling approach of performance variation which leverages extreme value theory by focusing on the maximum length of distributed workload intervals. This approach was implemented in MPI and evaluated on several HPC systems and workloads. I then present a performance model of partitioned communication which also uses …
Ensemble Protein Inference Evaluation, Kyle Lee Lucke
Ensemble Protein Inference Evaluation, Kyle Lee Lucke
Graduate Student Theses, Dissertations, & Professional Papers
The Protein inference problem is becoming an increasingly important tool that aids in the characterization of complex proteomes and analysis of complex protein samples. In bottom-up shotgun proteomics experiments the metrics for evaluation (like AUC and calibration error) are based on an often imperfect target-decoy database. These metrics make the inherent assumption that all of the proteins in the target set are present in the sample being analyzed. In general, this is not the case, they are typically a mix of present and absent proteins. To objectively evaluate inference methods, protein standard datasets are used. These datasets are special in …
Predicting Material Properties: Applications Of Multi-Scale Multiphysics Numerical Modeling To Transport Problems In Biochemical Systems And Chemical Process Engineering, Tom Pace
Theses and Dissertations--Physics and Astronomy
Material properties are used in a wide variety of theoretical models of material behavior. Descriptive properties quantify the nature, structure, or composition of the material. Behavioral properties quantify the response of the material to an imposed condition. The central question of this work concerns the prediction of behavioral properties from previously determined descriptive properties through hierarchical multi-scale, multiphysics models implemented as numerical simulations. Applications covered focus on mass transport models, including sequential enzyme-catalyzed reactions in systems biology, and an industrial chemical process in a common reaction medium.

Peer-To-Peer Trade And The Economy Of Distributed Pv In China, Peiyun Song, Yiou Zhou, Jiahai Yuan
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
With the deepening of power market reform, distributed power generation is gaining momentum. This paper tests the distributed photovoltaic (DPV) economy under different business models by taking three provinces to stand for typical resource zones. The Internal return rate (IRR) is used to measure the economy, while the improved levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) is used to model the generation cost. Three business modes, namely pure producer (all generation sold to the grid), prosumer (self-use and the rest sold to the grid), and peer-to-peer trade (P2P, all generation traded via the grid) are studied. Results show that peer-to-peer trade is …

Tube internal erosion, which corresponds to its wall thinning process, is one of the major safety concerns for tubes. Many sensing technologies have been developed to detect a tube wall thinning process. Among them, fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors are the most popular ones due to their precise measurement properties. Most of the current works focus on how to design different types of FBG sensors according to certain physical laws and only test their sensors in controlled laboratory conditions. However, in practice, an industrial system usually suffers from harsh and dynamic environmental conditions, and FBG signals are affected by many …
