Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: For solving cooperative target recognition problem in visual navigation, a fast and accurate algorithm based on progressive judgment of multiple features is proposed. The image is processed and judged by multiple features including image contours, Hu moment invariants and FAST corners. The non-target areas are eliminated and the real targets are obtained. In the process, algorithm is improved and some accelerated strategies are adopted to meet real-time requirements. Experiments show that the proposed algorithm can identify cooperative target robustly and adaptively with different distances, different angles and environment disturbance.

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The low-voltage ride-through in photovoltaic power generation is a key problem for photovoltaic inverters connected to grid. Aiming at the frequency- and phase-locking of low-voltage ride-through on the photovoltaic inverter during asymmetric fault on the grid and using positive and negative sequence separation, a dual second-order generalized integral frequency- and phase-locking algorithm (DSOGI-FLL-PLL) is proposed, and a simple FLL is used so that positive and negative sequence separation can be performed for various frequencies. The conventional phase-lock- loop (PLL) is also used to capture the grid-side voltage, which greatly reduces response time and error of PLL during asymmetric faults …

Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: It remains a challenging problem to drive particles-based fluid simulation to match target shape and deform fluid shape between different models smoothly in fluid control, especially when the natural fluid motion should be preserved. To achieve the desired behavior, the models are divided into source objects and target objects, and the control particles are generated from them. According to a space point correspondence between source control particles and target control particles, the control particles' movements are calculated which drive fluid to match different models. The control energy from source control particles is transferred to target control particles so as …

Generating novel, yet realistic, images of persons is a challenging task due to the complex interplay between the different image factors, such as the foreground, background and pose information. In this work, we aim at generating such images based on a novel, two-stage reconstruction pipeline that learns a disentangled representation of the aforementioned image factors and generates novel person images at the same time. First, a multi-branched reconstruction network is proposed to disentangle and encode the three factors into embedding features, which are then combined to re-compose the input image itself. Second, three corresponding mapping functions are learned in an …

Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
As more and more personal photos are shared online, being able to obfuscate identities in such photos is becoming a necessity for privacy protection. People have largely resorted to blacking out or blurring head regions, but they result in poor user experience while being surprisingly ineffective against state of the art person recognizers. In this work, we propose a novel head inpainting obfuscation technique. Generating a realistic head inpainting in social media photos is challenging because subjects appear in diverse activities and head orientations. We thus split the task into two sub-tasks: (1) facial landmark generation from image context (e.g. …

Understanding Natural Keyboard Typing Using Convolutional Neural Networks On Mobile Sensor Data, Travis Siems
Computer Science and Engineering Theses and Dissertations
Mobile phones and other devices with embedded sensors are becoming increasingly ubiquitous. Audio and motion sensor data may be able to detect information that we did not think possible. Some researchers have created models that can predict computer keyboard typing from a nearby mobile device; however, certain limitations to their experiment setup and methods compelled us to be skeptical of the models’ realistic prediction capability. We investigate the possibility of understanding natural keyboard typing from mobile phones by performing a well-designed data collection experiment that encourages natural typing and interactions. This data collection helps capture realistic vulnerabilities of the security …

All Master's Theses
Visualization of multidimensional data is a long-standing challenge in machine learning and knowledge discovery. A problem arises as soon as 4-dimensions are introduced since we live in a 3-dimensional world. There are methods out there which can visualize multidimensional data, but loss of information and clutter are still a problem. General Line Coordinates (GLC) can losslessly project n-dimensional data in 2- dimensions. A new method is introduced based on GLC called GLC-L. This new method can do interactive visualization, dimension reduction, and supervised learning. One of the applications of GLC-L is transformation of vector data into image data. This novel …

Spiking neurons are a class of neuron models that represent information in timed sequences called ``spikes.'' Though predominantly used in neuro-scientific investigations, spiking neural networks (SNN) can be applied to machine learning problems such as classification and regression. SNN are computationally more powerful per neuron than traditional neural networks. Though training time is slow on general purpose computers, spike-based hardware implementations are faster and have shown capability for ultra-low power consumption. Additionally, various SNN training algorithms have achieved comparable performance with the State of the Art on the Fisher Iris dataset. Our main contribution is a software implementation of the …
