While online shopping platforms provide convenience and autonomy to blind users, their non-visual interactions remain underexplored at a micro-behavioral level. Existing studies have primarily emphasized accessibility and usability challenges but have overlooked how fine-grained, screen reader-driven keystroke-level behaviors reflect users’ cognitive strategies. In this paper, we present the findings of a longitudinal study with 25 blind participants to examine their micro-behavioral patterns, using keyboard activity and screen reader logs on both familiar and unfamiliar e-commerce websites. We complemented this study with semi-structured interviews to contextualize the uncovered micro-behavioral patterns. Our results revealed patterns in how blind users draw upon cognitive …

Traditional ship detection methods primarily rely on single-modal approaches, such as visible or infrared images, which limit their application in complex scenarios involving varying lighting conditions and heavy fog. To address this issue, we explore the advantages of short-wave infrared (SWIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) in ship detection and propose a novel single-stage image fusion detection algorithm called LSFDNet. This algorithm leverages feature interaction between the image fusion and object detection subtask networks, achieving remarkable detection performance and generating visually impressive fused images. Community detection in heterogeneous information networks (HINs) poses significant challenges due to the diversity of entity types and the complexity of their interrelations. While traditional algorithms may perform adequately in some scenarios, many struggle with the high memory usage and computational demands of large-scale HINs. To address these challenges, we introduce a novel framework, SCAR, which efficiently uncovers community structures in HINs without requiring network materialization. SCAR leverages insights from meta-paths to interpret multi-relational data through compact vertex-based sketches, significantly reducing computational overhead and materialization overhead. The financial industry operates within a highly dynamic and interconnected ecosystem, presenting unique challenges for predictive modeling and decision-making. Accurately forecasting financial performance, assessing credit risk, detecting fraud, and ensuring compliance require methodologies that can capture complex temporal, relational, and contextual dependencies within financial data. This thesis investigates the use of Temporal Relational Graph Convolutional Networks (TRGCNs) combined with financial knowledge graphs (FKGs) to address these challenges and enable advanced analytics in the financial domain. On-demand, vehicle-based services—such as ride-hailing, food, grocery, and parcel delivery—have become ubiquitous over the past decade. These services can be categorized into four types (Sun et al., 2023): passenger mobility, goods delivery, information acquisition (e.g., probe vehicle for traffic conditions), and mobile server (e.g., vehicle displaying advertisements). Passenger mobility and goods delivery are typically fulfilled by separate fleets, each dedicated to a single service. Efficiently perusing online customer reviews is presently challenging for blind users, who rely on a screen reader that supports predominantly one-dimensional narration of content via keyboard shortcuts. To address this, with restaurant reviews as seminal case study, we developed QuickCue, a browser extension prototype that enables screen reader users to quickly obtain the positives and negatives regarding different aspects of a restaurant (e.g., food quality, hygiene, ambiance), without having to sift through numerous reviews containing redundant information. Online food ordering has become commonplace due to its convenience. The wide variety of culinary choices, combined with fast and economical door-delivery services, encourages more people to order food online. To facilitate this process, food vendors, including restaurants, often provide full menus on their websites, typically in visual formats such as images or PDFs. While this is convenient for sighted users, blind and visually impaired (BVI) individuals face significant challenges accessing these visual menus with their screen reader assistive technology. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is crucial to numerous functions required for driving automation systems, including the computer vision techniques used to detect the roadway environment and make real-time decisions. However, the images used as inputs to the AI system may be maliciously perturbed, or manipulated, causing the AI system to make an incorrect classification. Recent studies in using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to solve Job-shop scheduling problems (JSSP) focus on construction heuristics. However, their performance is still far from optimality, mainly because the underlying graph representation scheme is unsuitable for modelling partial solutions at each construction step. This paper proposes a novel DRL-guided improvement heuristic for solving JSSP, where graph representation is employed to encode complete solutions. However, the lack of explainability poses a critical challenge to deploy black-box models in security-related domains. This work demonstrates the VGGlass system, which simultaneously interprets human instructions for a target acquisition task and determines the precise 3D positions of both user and the target object. This is achieved by utilizing LiDARs mounted in the infrastructure and a smart glass device worn by the user. Key to our system is the union of LiDAR-based localization termed LiLOC and a multi-modal visual grounding approach termed RealG(2)In-Lite. Connectivity across documents often exhibits a hierarchical network structure. Hyperbolic Graph Neural Networks (HGNNs) have shown promise in preserving network hierarchy. However, they do not model the notion of topics, thus document representations lack semantic interpretability. On the other hand, a corpus of documents usually has high variability in degrees of topic specificity. For example, some documents contain general content (e.g., sports), while others focus on specific themes (e.g., basketball and swimming). Time-varying dynamic Bayesian network (TVDBN) is essential for describing time-evolving directed conditional dependence structures in complex multivariate systems. In this article, we construct a TVDBN model, together with a score-based method for its structure learning. The model adopts a vector autoregressive (VAR) model to describe inter-slice and intra-slice relations between variables. By allowing VAR parameters to change segment-wisely over time, the time-varying dynamics of the network structure can be described. Furthermore, considering some external information can provide additional similarity information of variables. Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) have demonstrated state-of-the-art performance in a wide variety of analytical tasks. Current GNN approaches focus on learning representations in a Euclidean space, which are effective in capturing non-tree-like structural relations, but they fail to model complex relations in many real-world graphs, such as tree-like hierarchical graph structure. This paper instead proposes to learn representations in both Euclidean and hyperbolic spaces to model these two types of graph geometries. The prevalence of graph structures attracts a surge of investigation on graph data, enabling several downstream tasks such as multigraph classification. However, in the multi-graph setting, graphs usually follow a long-tailed distribution in terms of their sizes, i.e., the number of nodes. In particular, a large fraction of tail graphs usually have small sizes.
