This case examines the innovative use of Large Language Models (LLMs) to generate learner personas for developing learner-centered cybersecurity training materials when direct access to initial learner data is not available. The team developed a nine-stage iterative process for creating and refining AI-generated personas to address this constraint, integrating ethical review, stakeholder feedback, and action research principles. The process expanded upon Kouprie and Visser’s (2009) empathic design framework to ensure cultural responsiveness and mitigate potential biases in LLM outputs. Through multiple refinement cycles, initial generic personas evolved into detailed, context-rich archetypes which informed the development of effective and context-responsive training …

Towards Dynamic Learner State: Orchestrating Ai Agents And Workplace Performance Via The Model Context Protocol, Mohan Yang, Nolan Lovett, Belle Li, Zhen Hou
Educational Leadership & Workforce Development Faculty Publications
Current learning and development approaches often struggle to capture dynamic individual capabilities, particularly the skills they acquire informally every day on the job. This dynamic creates a significant gap between what traditional models think people know and their actual performance, leading to an incomplete and often outdated understanding of how ready the workforce truly is, which can hinder organizational adaptability in rapidly evolving environments. This paper proposes a novel dynamic learner-state ecosystem—an AI-driven solution designed to bridge this gap. Our approach leverages specialized AI agents, orchestrated via the Model Context Protocol (MCP), to continuously track and evolve an individual’s multi-dimensional …

Contextual Memory Recall: A Novel Metric For Class Incremental Learning, Balasubramanian S, Sai Subramaniam M., Sai Sriram Talasu, Yedu Krishna P., Pranav Phanindra Sai M., Darshan Gera, Ravi Mukkamala
Computer Science Faculty Publications
We propose a novel metric for class incremental learning (CIL) called Contextual Memory Recall (CMR), which evaluates how well a CIL model recalls previously learned classes when given relevant past cues. Inspired by human memory, CMR offers newer insights into continual aspects of a CIL model that were not addressed by previously proposed metrics for CIL. Specifically, the standard metric, average incremental accuracy (AIA), overlooks the quality of evolving feature representations, whereas our proposed CMR accounts for it. As a result, methods using feature distillation perform well under AIA but poorly under CMR, while those without feature distillation excel under …

Improving Environment Novelty Quantification For Effective Unsupervised Environment Design, Jayden Teoh, Wenjun Li, Pradeep Varakantham
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
Unsupervised Environment Design (UED) formalizes the problem of autocurricula through interactive training between a teacher agent and a student agent. The teacher generates new training environments with high learning potential, curating an adaptive curriculum that strengthens the student’s ability to handle unseen scenarios. Existing UED methods mainly rely on regret, a metric that measures the difference between the agent’s optimal and actual performance, to guide curriculum design. Regret-driven methods generate curricula that progressively increase environment complexity for the student but overlook environment novelty–a critical element for enhancing an agent’s generalizability. Measuring environment novelty is especially challenging due to the underspecified …

Sociomathematical Norms And Automated Proof Checking In Mathematical Education: Reflections And Experiences, Merlin Carl
Sociomathematical Norms And Automated Proof Checking In Mathematical Education: Reflections And Experiences, Merlin Carl
Journal of Humanistic Mathematics
According to a widely held view, mathematical proofs are essentially (indications of) formal derivations, and thus in principle mechanically checkable (this view is defended, for example, by Azzouni [3]). This should in particular hold for the kind of simple proof exercises typically given to students of mathematics learning to write proofs. If that is so, then automated proof checking should be an attractive option for math education at the undergraduate level. An opposing view would be that mathematical proofs are social objects and that what constitutes a mathematical proof can thus not be separated from the social context in which …
