Deep Reinforcement Learning For Electricity Energy Trading, Manassakan Sanayha
Deep Reinforcement Learning For Electricity Energy Trading, Manassakan Sanayha
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
The deregulation and liberalization of the energy market in the 1990s prompted short-term electricity trading, allowing energy markets to produce net output over a range of time periods as a result of this decentralized system, most commonly minutes to days ahead of time. The energy industry urgently requires a system that has undergone substantial modernization in place to handle a variety of issues, including the current climate, renewable resources, and the energy framework. In this dissertation, we investigate a deep reinforcement learning framework for both wholesale and local energy trading, which probes the challenge of RL to optimize the real-world …
Real-Time Image Classification For Malignant Biliary Strictures On Cholangioscopy Images Based On Deep Learning Approach, Passakron Phuangthongkham
Real-Time Image Classification For Malignant Biliary Strictures On Cholangioscopy Images Based On Deep Learning Approach, Passakron Phuangthongkham
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
It is challenging to determine if the cause of bile duct strictures is benign or malignant. Currently, endoscopists may more precisely inspect the bile duct thanks to computerized single-operator cholangioscopy. As a result, lesions in the bile duct can be seen with the naked eye. However, endoscopists continue to diagnose patients differently. Consequently, a biopsy is typically regarded as the gold standard. The necessity to repeat operations results from a biopsy sample mistake that results in a false-negative cancer diagnosis. In this study, we suggest a convolutional neural network developed particularly for real-time malignant biliary stricture classification. Our approach, which …
Formal Models For Consent Management In Healthcare Software System Development, Neda Peyrone
Formal Models For Consent Management In Healthcare Software System Development, Neda Peyrone
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
In the era of data-driven opportunities, many businesses are missing the data-privacy challenge, which leads to risks in safeguarding their customers’ data. To empower individuals (data subjects) to control their data, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) mandated businesses or organizations (data controllers) to protect individuals’ data (personal data) within data protection law. Nevertheless, many businesses still struggle to enhance and develop their software systems to comply with the GDPR because it is difficult to interpret and apply to software development practices. Besides, the processing of personal data begins when the data subject provides explicit consent to the data controller, …
Real-Time Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Semantic Segmentation With Multiple Abnormalities Using Deep Learning Approach, Passin Pornvoraphat
Real-Time Gastric Intestinal Metaplasia Semantic Segmentation With Multiple Abnormalities Using Deep Learning Approach, Passin Pornvoraphat
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
This thesis declares the segmentation of gastric intestinal metaplasia (GIM) in real-time. Recently, GIM segmentation of endoscopic images has been conducted to distinguish GIM from a healthy stomach. However, achieving real-time detection is difficult. Challenging conditions include multiple color modes (white light endoscopy and narrow-band imaging), other abnormal lesions (erosion and ulcer), noisy labels, etc. Herein, our model is based on BiSeNet and can overcome the many issues regarding GIM. Applying auxiliary head and loss boosts the performance on multiple color modes. In addition, pre-processing techniques, including location-wise negative sampling, jigsaw augmentation, and label smoothing, are utilized to improve detection …
Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning For Cryptocurrency Trading, Kittiwin Kumlungmak
Multi-Agent Deep Reinforcement Learning For Cryptocurrency Trading, Kittiwin Kumlungmak
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Reinforcement learning has emerged as a promising approach for enhancing profitability in cryptocurrency trading. However, the inherent volatility of the market, especially during bearish periods, poses significant challenges in this domain. Existing literature addresses this issue through the adoption of single-agent techniques such as deep Q-network (DQN), advantage actor-critic (A2C), and proximal policy optimization (PPO), or their ensembles. Despite these efforts, the mechanisms employed to mitigate losses during bearish market conditions within the cryptocurrency context lack robustness. Consequently, the performance of reinforcement learning methods for cryptocurrency trading remains constrained within the current literature. To overcome this limitation, we present a …
Corporate Credit Rating Prediction Using Deep Learning, Napasorn Thavichaigarn
Corporate Credit Rating Prediction Using Deep Learning, Napasorn Thavichaigarn
Chulalongkorn University Theses and Dissertations (Chula ETD)
Corporate credit rating has an important role in reducing asymmetric information between investors and borrowers and assisting investors as a signal of the entities’ performance and creditworthiness for making appropriate investment decisions in a company’s assets. The economic distress has negatively affected various businesses and resulted in company rating transitions. This led to a problem in adjusting investment strategy and a serious loss as there is a lack of time between officially announced credit rating transitions and real transition. This study provides alternative methods for credit rating prediction by applying machine learning models; Support Vector Machine (SVM), Linear Regression, and …

Deep Reinforcement Learning For Open Multiagent System, Tianxing Zhu
Deep Reinforcement Learning For Open Multiagent System, Tianxing Zhu
Honors Papers
In open multiagent systems, multiple agents work together or compete to reach the goal while members of the group change over time. For example, intelligent robots that are collaborating to put out wildfires may run out of suppressants and have to leave the place to recharge; the rest of the robots may need to change their behaviors accordingly to better control the fires. Thus, openness requires agents not only to predict the behaviors of others, but also the presence of other agents. We present a deep reinforcement learning method that adapts the proximal policy optimization algorithm to learn the optimal …
Error Handling Approaches In Programming Languages, Joey Aldrin Rees-Hill
Error Handling Approaches In Programming Languages, Joey Aldrin Rees-Hill
Honors Papers
Error handling is a part of nearly every computer program, but it is rarely the main focus of a program's developers. Nevertheless, correct error handling is important because it can enable a program to recover from abnormal circumstances and continue to function and serve its purpose. Programming languages offer a variety of tools and approaches for programs to detect and handle errors. I investigated the different approaches to error handling in contemporary programming languages. I found three general paradigms of error handling approaches. One paradigm was Special Return Value, in which certain return values of a function signify that an …

A Lightweight Reliably Quantified Deepfake Detection Approach, Tianyi Wang, Kam Pui Chow
Annual ADFSL Conference on Digital Forensics, Security and Law
Deepfake has brought huge threats to society such that everyone can become a potential victim. Current Deepfake detection approaches have unsatisfactory performance in either accuracy or efficiency. Meanwhile, most models are only evaluated on different benchmark test datasets with different accuracies, which could not imitate the real-life Deepfake unknown population. As Deepfake cases have already been raised and brought challenges at the court, it is disappointed that no existing work has studied the model reliability and attempted to make the detection model act as the evidence at the court. We propose a lightweight Deepfake detection deep learning approach using the …

Studying The Robustness Of Machine Learning-Based Malware Detection Models: Analysis, Design, And Implementation, Ahmed Abusnaina
Electronic Theses and Dissertations, 2020-2023
With the rise of the popularity of machine learning (ML), it has been shown that ML-based classifiers are susceptible to adversarial examples and concept drifting, where a small modification in the input space may result in misclassification. The ever-evolving nature of the data, the behavioral and pattern shifting over time not only lessened the trust in the machine learning output but also created a barrier for its usage in critical applications. This dissertation builds toward analyzing machine learning-based malware detection systems, including the detection and mitigation of adversarial malware examples. In particular, we first introduce two black-box adversarial attacks on …

Drilling is the hole making process on the component face with the aid of a twisted drillbit. Normal drill bits easily wear out through penetration of drill bit into the workpiece material due to force generated in the drilling operation. So this work tries to investigate the machining parameters with cryogenically treated drill bits on various responses. Cryogenic treatment is one of the thermal engineering processes, which is used to cool the material from the temperature of −150 °C to −273 °C. This research work utilizes cryogenically treated drill tools for investigating the drilling performance on aluminium alloy (IS737.Gr19000) workpiece …

Finding suitable candidates for an open job position could be a repetitive and time-consuming task, especially from a large pool of candidates. Besides, this task could truly make fair screening and shortlisting tedious. Losing the opportunity to hire top talent candidates due to the slow screening process or the wrong selection by human error is unacceptable. This paper presented a method for human resources to categorize and select the top candidates for job opening they applied for. The proposed system directed to alter a machine learning algorithm to classify the candidate into groups i) shortlist and ii) not-suitable. The productive …

Theoretical And Experimental Application Of Neural Networks In Spaceflight Control Systems, Pavel Galchenko
Doctoral Dissertations
“Spaceflight systems can enable advanced mission concepts that can help expand our understanding of the universe. To achieve the objectives of these missions, spaceflight systems typically leverage guidance and control systems to maintain some desired path and/or orientation of their scientific instrumentation. A deep understanding of the natural dynamics of the environment in which these spaceflight systems operate is required to design control systems capable of achieving the desired scientific objectives. However, mitigating strategies are critically important when these dynamics are unknown or poorly understood and/or modelled. This research introduces two neural network methodologies to control the translation and rotation …

Cats Are Fuzzy Pets: A Corpus And Analysis Of Potentially Euphemistic Terms, Martha Gavidia, Patrick Lee, Anna Feldman, Jing Peng
Department of Computer Science Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works
Euphemisms have not received much attention in natural language processing, despite being an important element of polite and figurative language. Euphemisms prove to be a difficult topic, not only because they are subject to language change, but also because humans may not agree on what is a euphemism and what is not. Nonetheless, the first step to tackling the issue is to collect and analyze examples of euphemisms. We present a corpus of potentially euphemistic terms (PETs) along with example texts from the GloWbE corpus. Additionally, we present a subcorpus of texts where these PETs are not being used euphemistically, …

Cyber security analysts are concerned with APT attacks because they make it challenging to defend critical infrastructures. Grounded in routines activity theory (RAT), the purpose of this qualitative exploratory multiple case study was to explore strategies cybersecurity analysts use to defend critical infrastructures from APT attacks. Data were collected through interviews with 8 participants and documents from two organizations. Participants were required to have experience analyzing network traffic on a critical infrastructure network, one year of cyber threat hunting experience, prior or current knowledge of cyber threat intelligence …

Microservice systems are complicated due to their runtime environments and service communications. Debugging a failure involves the deployment and manipulation of microservice systems on a containerized environment and faces unique challenges due to the high complexity and dynamism of microservices. To address these challenges, we propose a debugging approach for microservice systems based on the delta debugging algorithm, which is to minimize failure-inducing deltas of circumstances (e.g., deployment, environmental configurations). Our approach includes novel techniques for defining, deploying/manipulating, and executing deltas during delta debugging. In particular, to construct a (failing) circumstance space for delta debugging to minimize, our approach defines …
