Simulation Of Anti-Ship Missile Automatic Control Section Trajectory Based On Pso-Lssvm, Shao Cheng, Hongyuan Sun, Zhang Lin
Journal of System Simulation
Abstract: The anti-ship missile trajectory simulation model cannot meet requirements of the “red and blue” confrontation simulation deduction. Trajectory modeling of anti-ship missiles based on field data will be a new method. Taking a typical anti-ship missile as an example, a trajectory modeling and simulation method of the missile self-control section based on field data is proposed. The field data is analyzed and the least square polynomial method is used to fit the missile velocity-time curve. Particle Swarm Optimization Least Square Support Vector Machine (PSO-LSSVM) is used to model. The verified and validated show the model has high credibility and …

Abstract: To design and analyze the urination assist system driven by ultrasonic-vaporized steam, a simulation model of the driving capsule and three mathematical models of working medium saturated vapor pressure, bladder pressure and urine flow are established. The simulation experiment system is built to verify the model. The effects of radiation time and sound intensity on the working medium temperature and driving pressure are simulated and analyzed. The results show that the working medium temperature and driving pressure are related to the radiation time and sound intensity. Prolonging radiation time and increasing sound intensity can increase the working medium …

Implications Of The Quantum Dna Model For Information Sciences, F. Matthew Mihelic
Faculty Publications
The DNA molecule can be modeled as a quantum logic processor, and this model has been supported by pilot research that experimentally demonstrated non-local communication between cells in separated cell cultures. This modeling and pilot research have important implications for information sciences, providing a potential architecture for quantum computing that operates at room temperature and is scalable to millions of qubits, and including the potential for an entanglement communication system based upon the quantum DNA architecture. Such a system could be used to provide non-local quantum key distribution that could not be blocked by any shielding or water depth, would …

The Whole Is Greater Than Its Parts: Ensembling Improves Protein Contact Prediction, Wendy M. Billings, Connor J. Morris, Dennis Della Corte
Faculty Publications
The prediction of amino acid contacts from protein sequence is an important problem, as protein contacts are a vital step towards the prediction of folded protein structures. We propose that a powerful concept from deep learning, called ensembling, can increase the accuracy of protein contact predictions by combining the outputs of different neural network models. We show that ensembling the predictions made by different groups at the recent Critical Assessment of Protein Structure Prediction (CASP13) outperforms all individual groups. Further, we show that contacts derived from the distance predictions of three additional deep neural networks—AlphaFold, trRosetta, and ProSPr—can be substantially …

As a result of a number of national initiatives, we are seeing rapid growth in the data important to materials science that are available over the web. Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult for researchers to learn what data are available and how to access them. To address this problem, the Research Data Alliance (RDA) Working Group for International Materials Science Registries (IMRR) was established to bring together materials science and information technology experts to develop an international federation of registries that can be used for global discovery of data resources for materials science. A resource registry collects high-level metadata …
Prediction Of Days-On-Market For Single-Family Homes In The Housing Market Of Savannah, Keagan Galbraith
Prediction Of Days-On-Market For Single-Family Homes In The Housing Market Of Savannah, Keagan Galbraith
Honors College Theses
The number of days that a home stays on the housing market (Days-On-Market—DOM) provides crucial information about the real estate market’s behavior that affects the buyer’s/seller’s decision (at the micro-level) and indicates the level of risk associated with real estate investments and identifies the housing bubbles (at the macro level). Housing data has a mixture of simple and complex attributes. A complex attribute in contrast with a simple attribute, has an array of values for a real estate property, which creates a major challenge in prediction of DOM. DOM is a binary attribute with values of “short” (£ six months) …

Given the complex challenges inherent in improving the quality of education, research-practice partnerships (RPPs) aim to bring together research and practice educators to conduct and use research to improve outcomes for students. This collaborative approach is challenging, and often requires members to adopt new ways of working (Coburn, Penuel, & Geil, 2013). RPPs have the potential to provide an infrastructure and mechanisms to integrate and unify research, policy, and practice, in contrast to traditional research processes in which research, policy, and practice can be in tension (Desimone, Wolford, Hill, 2016). The RPP literature is still young, and rich descriptions related …

Learning Sampling Policy For Faster Derivative Free Optimization, Zhou Zhai, Bin Gu, Heng Huang
Machine Learning Faculty Publications
Zeroth-order (ZO, also known as derivative-free) methods, which estimate the gradient only by two function evaluations, have attracted much attention recently because of its broad applications in machine learning community. The two function evaluations are normally generated with random perturbations from standard Gaussian distribution. To speed up ZO methods, many methods, such as variance reduced stochastic ZO gradients and learning an adaptive Gaussian distribution, have recently been proposed to reduce the variances of ZO gradients. However, it is still an open problem whether there is a space to further improve the convergence of ZO methods. To explore this problem, in …

While Artificial Intelligence in Education (AIED) research has at its core the desire to support student learning, experience from other AI domains suggest that such ethical intentions are not by themselves sufficient. There is also the need to consider explicitly issues such as fairness, accountability, transparency, bias, autonomy, agency, and inclusion. At a more general level, there is also a need to differentiate between doing ethical things and doing things ethically, to understand and to make pedagogical choices that are ethical, and to account for the ever-present possibility of unintended consequences. However, addressing these and related questions is far …

We propose a novel transformer-based styled handwritten text image generation approach, HWT, that strives to learn both style-content entanglement as well as global and local writing style patterns. The proposed HWT captures the long and short range relationships within the style examples through a self-attention mechanism, thereby encoding both global and local style patterns. Further, the proposed transformer-based HWT comprises an encoder-decoder attention that enables style-content entanglement by gathering the style representation of each query character. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to introduce a transformer-based generative network for styled handwritten text generation. Our proposed HWT …
Lecture 08: Partial Eigen Decomposition Of Large Symmetric Matrices Via Thick-Restart Lanczos With Explicit External Deflation And Its Communication-Avoiding Variant, Zhaojun Bai
Mathematical Sciences Spring Lecture Series
There are continual and compelling needs for computing many eigenpairs of very large Hermitian matrix in physical simulations and data analysis. Though the Lanczos method is effective for computing a few eigenvalues, it can be expensive for computing a large number of eigenvalues. To improve the performance of the Lanczos method, in this talk, we will present a combination of explicit external deflation (EED) with an s-step variant of thick-restart Lanczos (s-step TRLan). The s-step Lanczos method can achieve an order of s reduction in data movement while the EED enables to compute eigenpairs in batches along with a number …

Teaching Social-Emotional Skills Through Storytelling: Development Of A Mobile App For Children, Sally Devitry
Student Research Symposium
Children today are born into a world where technology is deeply integrated into daily life. A study completed in 2016 found that 85% of children ages 5-10 participate in some form of screen time (e.g., television, tablet, or smart phone) daily. More than 75% of these children do so for more than two hours a day on average. The increasing use of technology, specifically tablet and smartphone use, will fundamentally redefine childhood experiences. In a child’s formative years, learning social-emotional skills such as empathy, communication, resilience, etc. is vital. Obviously, human interaction cannot be replaced in teaching these social-emotional skills, …

The field of computing has in recent years begun to hit a wall in what is computationally feasible. In the past problems that were complex from a time standpoint waited for hardware to advance. Currently, Moore’s Law, the observation that the number of transistors on a chip doubles about every two years, has come to an end. This is due to the size of a transistor becoming so small that it begins to experience quantum effects and the laws of physics upon which a computer is built break down. A new paradigm of computing has emerged to …

As the world population increases, so do the demands for more efficient (less energy-consuming) methods of food cultivation. The vision of “precision agriculture” strives for greater farmland efficiency through advances in technology (sensors, robots), promising capabilities beyond what is possible from only manual labor. The University of North Florida’s “Garduino” project, providing a “hands-on” garden bed within which customized automated solutions can be piloted, aims to prepare engineering and computing undergraduates for this precision agriculture vision. A particularly valuable data source in this vision is near-field crop imagery, as may be acquired via self-navigating ground robots with …

Almost all of today’s computer security relies on something known as the RSA cryptosystem. This system relies on a mathematical, specifically number theory, problem known as prime factorization, where a composite number is broken down into its two prime number factors. This in an ideal method for encryption because it is easy to multiply two numbers, encoding the data, but it much harder to determine which numbers were originally multiplied together, thus hard to decode the data. If this composite number is sufficiently large, there is no known algorithm for efficiently breaking it down – at least …
Distfold: Distance-Guided Protein Folding, Matthew Bernardini
Distfold: Distance-Guided Protein Folding, Matthew Bernardini
Theses
Protein structure prediction and its associated key sub-problems such as distance map prediction are of significance importance in biology and bioinformatics. The inter-residue distance prediction problem, or distance prediction in short, is to predict the physical distance between amino acids in a three-dimensional (3D) space, given a protein's one-dimensional sequence information. While there exist many methods to predict distance maps, there are currently no methods that can take those predicted distance maps and build 3D models from them in an ab initio way, i.e., without using any other information. This works aims to fill this gap by: a) developing a …

Criminal justice around the world has prioritized the prevention and protection of bullying and its victims due to the rapid increases in peer violence. Nevertheless, relatively few studies have examined what treatments or assistance are effective for peer victims to reduce and recover from their social and psychological suffering, especially in cyberbullying cases. Using data derived from the National Crime Victimization Survey-School Crime Supplement data in 2011 and 2013 (N=823), the current study examined the impact of two emotional support groups (i.e., adult and peer groups) on cyberbullying victims' social and psychological harm. The findings indicated that both adult and …

Cybertechnology has brought benefits to the Caribbean in the form of new regional economic and social growth. In the last years, Caribbean countries have also become attractive targets for cybercrime due to increased economic success and online presence with a low level of cyber resilience. This study examines the online-related activities that affect cybercrime victimization by using the Routine Activity Theory (RAT). The present study seeks to identify activities that contribute to different forms of cybercrime victimization and develop risk models for these crimes, particularly the understudied cyber-dependent crimes of Hacking and Malware. It also aims to explore if there …
