A Lightweight Cloud Sharing Phr System With Access Policy Updating, Zuobin Ying, Wenjie Jang, Shuanlong Cao, Ximeng Liu, Jie Cui
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The rapid development of smart wearable devices makes personal health management feasible, which also stimulates the evolution of personal health records (PHRs). However, PHRs face many security challenges ever since it has been created. Besides, the complicated policy adjusting operation makes the PHRs stored in the cloud not so easy to use. In this paper, we propose a lightweight PHRs system on the basis of attribute-based encryption with policy updating. To update an outsourced ciphertext PHRs in the cloud, PHRs owners only need to generate an updating key, then upload it to the cloud server instead of retrieving the entire …

Visforum: A Visual Analysis System For Exploring User Groups In Online Forums, Siwei Fu, Yong Wang, Yi Yang, Qingqing Bi, Fangzhou Guo, Huamin Qu
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
User grouping in asynchronous online forums is a common phenomenon nowadays. People with similar backgrounds or shared interests like to get together in group discussions. As tens of thousands of archived conversational posts accumulate, challenges emerge for forum administrators and analysts to effectively explore user groups in large-volume threads and gain meaningful insights into the hierarchical discussions. Identifying and comparing groups in discussion threads are nontrivial, since the number of users and posts increases with time and noises may hamper the detection of user groups. Researchers in data mining fields have proposed a large body of algorithms to explore user …

An Application Of The Actor Model Of Concurrency In Python: A Euclidean Rhythm Music Sequencer, Daniel P. Prince, Saverio Perugini
Computer Science Faculty Publications
We present a real-time sequencer, implementing the Euclidean rhythm algorithm, for creative generation of drum sequences by musicians or producers. We use the Actor model of concurrency to simplify the communication required for interactivity and musical timing, and generator comprehensions and higher-order functions to simplify the implementation of the Euclidean rhythm algorithm. The resulting application sends Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) data interactively to another application for sound generation.

Poster: Privacy-Preserving Boosting With Random Linear Classifiers, Sagar Sharma, Keke Chen

We propose SecureBoost, a privacy-preserving predictive modeling framework, that allows service providers (SPs) to build powerful boosting models over encrypted or randomly masked user submit- ted data. SecureBoost uses random linear classifiers (RLCs) as the base classifiers. A Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) manages keys and assists the SP’s processing to reduce the complexity of the protocol constructions. The SP learns only the base models (i.e., RLCs) and the CSP learns only the weights of the base models and a limited leakage function. This separated parameter holding avoids any party from abusing the final model or conducting model-based attacks. We evaluate …

A New Framework For Securing, Extracting And Analyzing Big Forensic Data, Hitesh Sachdev, Hayden Wimmer, Lei Chen, Carl Rebman
Information Technology: Faculty Publications
Finding new methods to investigate criminal activities, behaviors, and responsibilities has always been a challenge for forensic research. Advances in big data, technology, and increased capabilities of smartphones has contributed to the demand for modern techniques of examination. Smartphones are ubiquitous, transformative, and have become a goldmine for forensics research. Given the right tools and research methods investigating agencies can help crack almost any illegal activity using smartphones. This paper focuses on conducting forensic analysis in exposing a terrorist or criminal network and introduces a new Big Forensic Data Framework model where different technologies of Hadoop and EnCase software are …
