Leakage attacks, including various kinds of side-channel attacks, allow an attacker to learn partial information about the internal secrets such as the secret key and the randomness of a cryptographic system. Designing a strong, meaningful, yet achievable security notion to capture practical leakage attacks is one of the primary goals of leakage-resilient cryptography. In this work, we revisit the modelling and design of authenticated key exchange (AKE) protocols with leakage resilience. We show that the prior works on this topic are inadequate in capturing realistic leakage attacks. To close this research gap, we propose a new security notion named leakage-resilient …

The art of cooking is always fascinating. Nevertheless, reproducing a delicious dish that one has never encountered before is not easy. Even if the name of dish is known and the corresponding recipe could be retrieved, the right ingredients for cooking the dish may not be available due to factors such as geography region or season. Furthermore, knowing how to cut, cook and control timing may be challenging for one whose has no cooking experience. In this paper, an all-around cooking assistant mobile app, named Pic2Dish, is developed to help users who would like to cook a dish but neither …

New Framework Of Password-Based Authenticated Key Exchange From Only-One Lossy Encryption, Haiyang Xue, Bao Li, Jingnan He
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In this paper, we introduce a new framework of password-based key exchange (PAKE). Until now, most PAKEs are based on smooth projective hash function on secure encryption. Our PAKE does not rely on smooth projective hash function, and consists of a variate lossy encryption, called only-one lossy encryption, and indistinguishable plaintext checkable secure encryption. We also give construction of only-one lossy encryption based decisional Diffie Hellman (DDH) and learning with errors (LWE) assumptions. Although the instantiation based on DDH assumption does not improve efficiency of precious works, our framework provides more easier and elegant way to construct PAKE from LWE …

Spatiotemporal Identification Of Anomalies In A Wildlife Preserve, Bharadwaj Kishan, Jason Guan Jie Ong, Yanrong Zhang, Tin Seong Kam
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
The datasets released for the VAST Challenge 2017 comprise vehicle movement data captured with RFID sensors, chemical emission data from factories captured by gas sensors, and image attributes of the wildlife plant health obtained from satellites, all pertaining to a fictional wildlife preserve. Using visual analytics, a compelling hypothesis is established to link the spatiotemporal datasets to the phenomenon, where the count of a bird specimen is found to decline over a given year. Anomalies in vehicle traffic patterns are linked to proximal factory emissions, and further associated with satellite imagery that show proof of degradation in plant quality in …

A Conceptual Framework For Analyzing Students' Feedback, Venky Shankararaman, Swapna Gottipati, Sandy Gan
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
In academic institutions it is normal practice that at the end of each term, students are required to complete a questionnaire that is designed to gather students’perceptions of the instructor and their learning experience in the course. This questionnaire comprises of Likert-scale questions and qualitative questions. One of the important goals of this exercise is to enable the instructor and the senior management to examine the feedback and then enhance students’ learning experience. In most universities, including our own, a lot of attention is paid to the quantitative feedback, which is summarized and statistical comparisons are computed, analysed and presented. However, the …
Combinatorial Auction For Transportation Matching Service: Formulation And Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Heuristic, Baoxiang Li, Hoong Chuin Lau
Combinatorial Auction For Transportation Matching Service: Formulation And Adaptive Large Neighborhood Search Heuristic, Baoxiang Li, Hoong Chuin Lau
Research Collection School Of Computing and Information Systems
This paper considers the problem of matching multiple shippers and multi-transporters for pickups and drop-offs, where the goal is to select a subset of group jobs (shipper bids) that maximizes profit. This is the underlying winner determination problem in an online auction-based vehicle sharing platform that matches transportation demand and supply, particularly in a B2B last-mile setting. Each shipper bid contains multiple jobs, and each job has a weight, volume, pickup location, delivery location and time window. On the other hand, each transporter bid specifies the vehicle capacity, available time periods, and a cost structure. This double-sided auction will be …
Analyzing Cyber Threats Affecting The Financial Industry, Anna Skelton
Analyzing Cyber Threats Affecting The Financial Industry, Anna Skelton
Student Works
As critical infrastructure, financial institutions must execute the highest level of cybersecurity as the threat of a crippling cyberattack continues to develop. Malicious actors, including disenfranchised employees, state sponsored actors, and traditional hackers, all have motivations to target the financial industry, and do so frequently. However, the threat changes slightly between resource rich large institutions and their smaller, community bank counterparts. The complex and multifaceted threat must be fully understood in order to properly address and analyze solution options to preserve the security of these institutions and the economy that they contribute to.

Engineering Management & Systems Engineering Theses & Dissertations
The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Lethality and Effectiveness Branch is the Navy’s subject matter experts (SME) on target vulnerability, weapon lethality, and weapon effectiveness. Branch personnel currently exercise expertise in the kinetic and directed energy weapon domains. When the Navy develops weapons in the kinetic and directed energy domains, there are clear and well established procedures and methodologies for performing target characterization that support weapon-target pairing. Algorithms exist to describe the likelihood of damage effects. It is natural that in the paradigm shift to cyberspace warfare that the Branch provide these same services to the warfighter in …

Exploring The Internal Statistics: Single Image Super-Resolution, Completion And Captioning, Yang Xian
Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects
Image enhancement has drawn increasingly attention in improving image quality or interpretability. It aims to modify images to achieve a better perception for human visual system or a more suitable representation for further analysis in a variety of applications such as medical imaging, remote sensing, and video surveillance. Based on different attributes of the given input images, enhancement tasks vary, e.g., noise removal, deblurring, resolution enhancement, prediction of missing pixels, etc. The latter two are usually referred to as image super-resolution and image inpainting (or completion).
Image super-resolution and completion are numerically ill-posed problems. Multi-frame-based approaches make use of the …
Improved Scoring Models For Semantic Image Retrieval Using Scene Graphs, Erik Timothy Conser
Improved Scoring Models For Semantic Image Retrieval Using Scene Graphs, Erik Timothy Conser
Dissertations and Theses
Image retrieval via a structured query is explored in Johnson, et al. [7]. The query is structured as a scene graph and a graphical model is generated from the scene graph's object, attribute, and relationship structure. Inference is performed on the graphical model with candidate images and the energy results are used to rank the best matches. In [7], scene graph objects that are not in the set of recognized objects are not represented in the graphical model. This work proposes and tests two approaches for modeling the unrecognized objects in order to leverage the attribute and relationship models to …
Refining Bounding-Box Regression For Object Localization, Naomi Lynn Dickerson
Refining Bounding-Box Regression For Object Localization, Naomi Lynn Dickerson
Dissertations and Theses
For the last several years, convolutional neural network (CNN) based object detection systems have used a regression technique to predict improved object bounding boxes based on an initial proposal using low-level image features extracted from the CNN. In spite of its prevalence, there is little critical analysis of bounding-box regression or in-depth performance evaluation. This thesis surveys an array of techniques and parameter settings in order to further optimize bounding-box regression and provide guidance for its implementation. I refute a claim regarding training procedure, and demonstrate the effectiveness of using principal component analysis to handle unwieldy numbers of features produced …
Accessibility And Usability Of Government Websites In Tanzania, Joel S. Mtebe, Aron W. Kondoro
Accessibility And Usability Of Government Websites In Tanzania, Joel S. Mtebe, Aron W. Kondoro
The African Journal of Information Systems
The government of Tanzania has been embracing information systems specifically websites in order to widen access to government services, lower administrative costs, and to increase public participation in decision making. As a result, almost every ministry, department, and agency (MDA) has developed a website of different kind. However, the majority of existing websites were developed without sufficiently considering user needs which indicates that they do have some usability and accessibility problems. This study used SortSite tool to evaluate accessibility and usability of government websites taking a sample of 22 websites. The report from the SortSite tool was then checked against …

Systematic Analysis Of Enterprise Perception Towards Cloud Adoption In The African States: The Nigerian Perspective, George A. Oguntala, Prof. Raed A. Abd-Alhameed, Dr. Janet O. Odeyemi
The African Journal of Information Systems
The desirous benefits of cloud computing such as high return on investment through efficient resource management, high application throughput and on-demand capabilities have resulted in the unprecedented global acceptance of the computing paradigm. However, research on cloud adoption indicates that fewer organisations in the African states are adopting cloud services. Thus, the purview of the paper is to examine the factors responsible for the poor adoption of cloud computing in most African enterprises using Nigeria as a case study. The study focus on the perception of IT and non-IT employees towards cloud computing. Moreover, the paper reviews the literature on …
Enhancing The Internet Of Things Architecture With Flow Semantics, Allen Ronald Deserranno
Enhancing The Internet Of Things Architecture With Flow Semantics, Allen Ronald Deserranno
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Internet of Things (‘IoT’) systems are complex, asynchronous solutions often comprised of various software and hardware components developed in isolation of each other. These components function with different degrees of reliability and performance over an inherently unreliable network, the Internet. Many IoT systems are developed within silos that do not provide the ability to communicate or be interoperable with other systems and platforms. Literature exists on how these systems should be designed, how they should interoperate, and how they could be improved, but practice does not always consult literature.
The work brings together a proposed reference architecture for the IoT …
Modeling And Reasoning With Changing Intentions: An Experiment, Alicia M. Grubb, Marsha Chechik
Modeling And Reasoning With Changing Intentions: An Experiment, Alicia M. Grubb, Marsha Chechik
Computer Science: Faculty Publications
Existing modeling approaches in requirements engineering assume that stakeholder goals are static: Once set, they remain the same throughout the lifecycle of the project. Of course, such goals, like anything else, may change over time. In earlier work, we introduced Evolving Intentions: An approach that allows stakeholders to specify how evaluations of goal model elements change over time. Simulation over Evolving Intentions enables stakeholders to ask a variety of 'what if' questions, and evaluate possible evolutions of a goal model. GrowingLeaf is a web-based tool that implements both the modeling and analysis components of this approach. In this paper, we …

Background: Phylogenetic analysis is a key way to understand current research in the biological processes and detect theory in evolution of natural selection. The evolutionary relationship between species is generally reflected in the form of phylogenetic trees. Many methods for constructing phylogenetic trees, are based on the optimization criteria. We extract the biological data via modeling features, and then compare these characteristics to study the biological evolution between species.
Results: Here, we use maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference method to establish phylogenetic trees; multi-chain Markov chain Monte Carlo sampling method can be used to select optimal phylogenetic tree, resolving local …
Am I Who I Say I Am? Unobtrusive Selfrepresentation And Personality Recognition On Facebook, Margeret A. Hall, Simon Caton
Am I Who I Say I Am? Unobtrusive Selfrepresentation And Personality Recognition On Facebook, Margeret A. Hall, Simon Caton
Interdisciplinary Informatics Faculty Publications
Across social media platforms users (sub)consciously represent themselves in a way which is appropriate for their intended audience. This has unknown impacts on studies with unobtrusive designs based on digital (social) platforms, and studies of contemporary social phenomena in online settings. A lack of appropriate methods to identify, control for, and mitigate the effects of self-representation, the propensity to express socially responding characteristics or self-censorship in digital settings, hinders the ability of researchers to confidently interpret and generalize their findings. This article proposes applying boosted regression modelling to fill this research gap. A case study of paid Amazon Mechanical Turk …

Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science Faculty Articles and Research
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is considered an effective treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and many researchers have further investigated factors associated with treatment outcomes. However, few studies have focused on whether treatment intensity and duration have differential influences on separate skills. The aim of the current study was to investigate how treatment intensity and duration impact learning across different treatment domains, including academic, adaptive, cognitive, executive function, language, motor, play, and social. Separate multiple linear regression analyses were used to evaluate these relationships. Participants included 1468 children with ASD, ages 18 months to 12 years old, M= …
Developing Grounded Goals Through Instant Replay Learning, Lisa Meeden, Douglas S. Blank
Developing Grounded Goals Through Instant Replay Learning, Lisa Meeden, Douglas S. Blank
Computer Science Faculty Research and Scholarship
This paper describes and tests a developmental architecture that enables a robot to explore its world, to find and remember interesting states, to associate these states with grounded goal representations, and to generate action sequences so that it can re-visit these states of interest. The model is composed of feed-forward neural networks that learn to make predictions at two levels through a dual mechanism of motor babbling for discovering the interesting goal states and instant replay learning for developing the grounded goal representations. We compare the performance of the model with grounded goal representations versus random goal representations, and find …

Realistic Models For Characterizing The Performance Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Ken Goss, Riccardo Musmeci, Simone Silvestri
Realistic Models For Characterizing The Performance Of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, Ken Goss, Riccardo Musmeci, Simone Silvestri
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly being adopted for military and civilian applications. UAVs available on the market are well known to be resource constrained, especially in terms of available energy. As a result, it is very challenging to predict the critical performance characteristics of a UAV, such as flight time or the ability of a UAV to complete a mission, given the system parameters. Nevertheless, such predictions would have several benefits, such as improving the effectiveness of mission planners and optimization algorithms in general, as well as enabling researchers to perform more realistic simulations. The goal of this paper …
Biologically Inspired Network (Bionet) Authentication Using Logical And Pathological Rf-Dna Credential Pairs, Tyrone A.L. Lewis Sr.
Biologically Inspired Network (Bionet) Authentication Using Logical And Pathological Rf-Dna Credential Pairs, Tyrone A.L. Lewis Sr.
Theses and Dissertations
The command and control (C2) of shared space resources are vulnerable to logical credential forgery and impersonation attacks among standardized and interoperable wireless radio frequency (RF) networks. Threats could come from trusted operators (insiders) or from external sources (outsiders). An attacker may gain unauthorized network access and illegally cross into C2 boundaries when conventional network authentication fails. This research proposes an integrated trust management system that uses both application-layer and physical-layer trust markers to authenticate users and their communication sources. In essence, the results from physical-layer RF-DNA fingerprinting techniques are used to improve application-level trust schemes based on command patterns, …
A Tree Locality-Sensitive Hash For Secure Software Testing, Camdon J. Cady
A Tree Locality-Sensitive Hash For Secure Software Testing, Camdon J. Cady
Theses and Dissertations
Bugs in software that make it through testing can cost tens of millions of dollars each year, and in some cases can even result in the loss of human life. In order to eliminate bugs, developers may use symbolic execution to search through possible program states looking for anomalous states. Most of the computational effort to search through these states is spent solving path constraints in order to determine the feasibility of entering each state. State merging can make this search more efficient by combining program states, allowing multiple execution paths to be analyzed at the same time. However, a …
A Stochastic Model Of Plausibility In Live-Virtual-Constructive Environments, Jeremy Robert Millar
A Stochastic Model Of Plausibility In Live-Virtual-Constructive Environments, Jeremy Robert Millar
Theses and Dissertations
Distributed live-virtual-constructive simulation promises a number of benefits for the test and evaluation community, including reduced costs, access to simulations of limited availability assets, the ability to conduct large-scale multi-service test events, and recapitalization of existing simulation investments. However, geographically distributed systems are subject to fundamental state consistency limitations that make assessing the data quality of live-virtual-constructive experiments difficult. This research presents a data quality model based on the notion of plausible interaction outcomes. This model explicitly accounts for the lack of absolute state consistency in distributed real-time systems and offers system designers a means of estimating data quality and …

Cross-Correlation-Based Structural System Identification Using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles., Hyungchul Yoon, Vedhus Hoskere, Jong-Woong Park, Billie F. Spencer
Michigan Tech Publications, Part 1
Computer vision techniques have been employed to characterize dynamic properties of structures, as well as to capture structural motion for system identification purposes. All of these methods leverage image-processing techniques using a stationary camera. This requirement makes finding an effective location for camera installation difficult, because civil infrastructure (i.e., bridges, buildings, etc.) are often difficult to access, being constructed over rivers, roads, or other obstacles. This paper seeks to use video from Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) to address this problem. As opposed to the traditional way of using stationary cameras, the use of UAVs brings the issue of the camera …
Minimal Coflow Routing And Scheduling In Openflow-Based Cloud Storage Area Networks, Chui Hui Chiu, Dipak Kumar Singh, Qingyang Wang, Kisung Lee, Seung Jong Park
Minimal Coflow Routing And Scheduling In Openflow-Based Cloud Storage Area Networks, Chui Hui Chiu, Dipak Kumar Singh, Qingyang Wang, Kisung Lee, Seung Jong Park
Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works
Researches affirm that coflow scheduling/routing substantially shortens the average application inner communication time in data center networks (DCNs). The commonly desirable critical features of existing coflow scheduling/routing framework includes (1) coflow scheduling, (2) coflow routing, and (3) per-flow rate-limiting. However, to provide the 3 features, existing frameworks require customized computing frameworks, customized operating systems, or specific external commercial monitoring frameworks on software-defined networking (SDN) switches. These requirements defer or even prohibit the deployment of coflow scheduling/routing in production DCNs. In this paper, we design a coflow scheduling and routing framework, MinCOF which has minimal requirements on hosts and switches for …
