Direct instantaneous torque control (DITC) is one way of controlling torque in switched reluctance motors. Despite the presence of DITC control, torque ripple at nominal or higher speeds is considerable due to the back emf increasing. To overcome this drawback, many converters have been proposed. In most convertors proposed for fast excitation in DITC, controlling of boost capacity is an important problem. This paper presents a DITC for a switched reluctance motor using a proposed converter to reduce the torque ripple with controlled boost capacitor automatically. The proposed converter reduces the torque ripple at rated or higher speeds and no …

Novel Dynamic Partial Reconfiguration Implementations Of The Support Vector Machine Classifier On Fpga, Hanaa Hussain, Khaled Benkrid, Hüseyi̇n Şeker
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The support vector machine (SVM) is one of the highly powerful classifiers that have been shown to be capable of dealing with high-dimensional data. However, its complexity increases requirements of computational power. Recent technologies including the postgenome data of high-dimensional nature add further complexity to the construction of SVM classifiers. In order to overcome this problem, hardware implementations of the SVM classifier have been proposed to benefit from parallelism to accelerate the SVM. On the other hand, those implementations offer limited flexibility in terms of changing parameters and require the reconfiguration of the whole device. The latter interrupts the operation …

Tourism Demand Modelling And Forecasting Using Data Mining Techniques In Multivariate Time Series: A Case Study In Turkey, Selçuk Cankurt, Abdülhami̇t Subaşi
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study multiple linear regression, multilayer perceptron (MLP) regression, and support vector regression (SVR) are used to make multivariate tourism forecasting for Turkey. This paper is a comparative study of data mining techniques based on multivariate regression modelling with monthly data points to forecast tourism demand; it focuses on Turkey. Both MLP and SVR methods are widely employed in the variety forecasting problems. Most of the previous research on tourism forecasting used univariate time series or a limited number of variables with mostly yearly or quarterly, and rarely monthly frequencies. However, the application of data mining techniques for multivariate …

An Improved Digital Image Watermarking Scheme Using The Discrete Fourier Transform And Singular Value Decomposition, Justin Varghese, Saudia Subash, Omer Bin Hussain, Krishnan Nallaperumal, Mohammed Ramadan Saady, Mohamed Samiulla Khan
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
The paper presents an improved digital image watermarking algorithm by incorporating the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and singular value decomposition (SVD). The Fourier transformed carrier image is decomposed into four different frequency subbands by the proposed onion peel decomposition (OPD) algorithm and the SVD-based watermarking scheme is applied to attach the transformed watermark in all four carrier subbands. The proposed inverse OPD algorithm together with inverse DFT is utilized to reconstruct the watermarked image from the frequency blocks. The watermark extraction algorithm is simple and it performs the inverse of watermarking process. The experimental analysis on different images shows that …
Push-Pull Cache Consistency Mechanism For Cooperative Caching In Mobile Ad Hoc Environments, Lilly Sheeba Selvin, Yogesh Palanichamy
Push-Pull Cache Consistency Mechanism For Cooperative Caching In Mobile Ad Hoc Environments, Lilly Sheeba Selvin, Yogesh Palanichamy
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Maintaining data consistency between data cached by a mobile client and data residing in the data server is a major issue in a wireless mobile environment. In this paper, we propose a push-pull cache consistency (2P2C) mechanism, with the intention of increasing the rate of serving requestors with recent up-to-date information or data from the cache of the intermediate nodes that are exact replicas of the data present in the origin server. This is a hybrid scheme that does not rely entirely either on the server or on the mobile client for maintaining consistency. Here we employ a registration process. …
Design And Implementation Of A Compact Avionics Instrument For Light Aviation, Mustafa Emre Aydemi̇r
Design And Implementation Of A Compact Avionics Instrument For Light Aviation, Mustafa Emre Aydemi̇r
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this study, a low-cost compact avionics instrument has been designed and implemented for light aviation vehicles such as ultralight airplanes, hang glider-trikes, and paramotors. At the moment there are a few commercial products that provide flight data and vehicle statuses such as altitude, temperature, fuel level, and engine hours meter. However, due to low production rates, customization for different air vehicles, and complex electronics and signal processing hardware, these instruments are generally far from being affordable; their cost may even be more than that of the air vehicle. This study presents a novel approach such that recent state-of-the-art hardware …

Reduction Of Torque Ripple In Induction Motor By Artificial Neural Multinetworks, Fati̇h Korkmaz, İsmai̇l Topaloğlu, Hayati̇ Mamur, Murat Ari, İlhan Tarimer
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
Direct torque control is used in the high performance control of induction motors. The most frequently faced problem of it is high torque ripples. In this study, a new approach based on artificial neural multinetworks is presented to overcome the problem. Two different artificial neural networks were suggested instead of vector selection and sector determination processes in the conventional direct torque control method. The conventional and the proposed control methods were evaluated on an induction motor through an experimental set. It was observed that the speed and torque responses of the proposed method were better than those of the conventional …

Modeling And Performance Optimization Of Photovoltaic And Thermal Collector Hybrid System, Di̇lşad Engi̇n, Meti̇n Çolak
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In this paper, the hybrid photovoltaic/thermal collector (PV/T) system's electrical and thermal efficiency was examined by stating a mathematical model and developing a prototype of the system. To enhance the electrical efficiency, the cell temperature of the PV module was decreased with cooling and the heated fluid could be used for low heating applications. For this purpose, a PV/T system was modeled and constructed using a thermal collector placed beneath the photovoltaic panel where the excess heat and solar radiation through the transparent PV module was the input of the thermal collector. A transparent solar module was used in order …

Common-Mode Emi Evaluation Of Forward Converter With Various Core-Reset Schemes, Mohammad Rouhollah Yazdani, Nahid Amini Filabadi
Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences
In switching power converters, electromagnetic emissions can interfere with the normal operation of the converter or other adjacent systems. Among various power converters, forward converters are widely used at low and medium powers that need a transformer core-reset scheme. In this paper, a prediction procedure for conducted common-mode EMI of a single-switch forward converter is presented, and common-mode EMI levels are predicted considering heat-sink parasitic capacitors and main PCB parasitic elements. The accuracy of prediction results is examined via experimental results. In addition, effects of conventional passive core-reset schemes on the conducted EMI are evaluated via experimental results. Along with …
