Web Scraping The Easy Way, Yolande Neil
Web Scraping The Easy Way, Yolande Neil
Honors College Theses
Web scraping refers to a software program that mimics human web surfing behavior by pointing to a website and collecting large amounts of data that would otherwise be difficult for a human to extract. A typical program will extract both unstructured and semi-structured data, as well as images, and convert the data into a structured format. Web scraping is commonly used to facilitate online price comparisons, aggregate contact information, extract online product catalog data, extract economic/demographic/statistical data, and create web mashups, among other uses. Additionally, in the era of big data, semantic analysis, and business intelligence, web scraping is the …

Evaluating Information Technology (It) Integration Risk Prior To Mergers And Acquisitions (M&A), Deepak Khazanchi, Vipin Arora
Information Systems and Quantitative Analysis Faculty Publications
Corporate mergers and acquisitions (M&A) are considered significant, from both a strategic and an economic point of view, across almost all sectors of the economy.1 M&A is a complex process involving risk that ranges from financial and legal matters to sales and marketing challenges and everything in between. Despite well-established benefits of strategically driven expansion and integration of businesses through M&A, the consolidated organization exposes itself to a number of anticipated, unknown and unintended risk factors. The risk concerns the overall organizational integration of some or all of the previously distinct and interdependent assets, structures, business processes, technologies, systems, …

Business leaders often realize greater profitability when they have strategies to retain IT
employees. However, the cost to replace IT employees creates significant challenges for
business leaders. Given the growing impact of technology on operational costs, retention
of IT employees is imperative. This exploratory single case study sought to identify the
strategies that leaders use to increase IT employee retention. The population was 6
leaders from a military organization in Norfolk, Virginia, responsible for the retention of
IT employees. Herzberg's two-factor theory was the conceptual framework for this study.
The data was collected from semi-structured interviews with 6 leaders along …

This project investigated the degree that perceived ease of use and usefulness of the ERP system influenced decisions made by senior managers to innovate. Roger's diffusion of innovations theory and Davis technology acceptance model theory were used to predict when senior managers were open to innovation, and whether …
Personas: A Strategy For More Inclusive And Usable Reproductive Health Tracking Technologies, Anna R. Paul
Personas: A Strategy For More Inclusive And Usable Reproductive Health Tracking Technologies, Anna R. Paul
Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports
In this report, I argue for the inclusion of personas in the development process of technologies that are designed to allow users to collect and track their health information. Personas provide a profile of a user and their needs, goals, and contexts. This tool can help designers to better understand their users, in order to create better, more usable end products. I examine one particular self-tracking technology, smartphone applications that allow users to record information about their menstrual cycles. Many of the most popular period tracking applications available today only meet the needs of a narrow user group, resulting in …
The Corporate Security Stratum Of Work: Identifying Levels Of Work In The Domain, Codee Roy Ludbey
The Corporate Security Stratum Of Work: Identifying Levels Of Work In The Domain, Codee Roy Ludbey
Theses : Honours
Corporate security is a practicing domain and developing academic discipline that provides for the protection of people, information and assets, as well as the self-protection of organisations. Fayol (1949) articulated such an activity within organisations to be a core business function of significant importance; embedding security operations within all aspects of organisational work. This embedded nature of security within organisations has led to difficulty in the literature delineating roles and responsibilities of security practitioners; consequently leading to a nebulous understanding of security as a whole. Therefore, an investigation of the corporate security stratum of work has been undertaken to address …

Towards A New Gis Maturity Model: An Organizational Usage Perspective, Omer Abdulaziz Alrwais
CGU Theses & Dissertations
The first condition required for an Information Technology (IT) system to produce value is that it be used by its designated target group of users. Despite the prevalence of “system use” in IS literature, it has been often limited to the individual level. The organizational perspective is rarely considered. This dissertation focuses on system usage in the GIS domain through an organizational lens. GIS is a technology with the potential to transform government by enhancing business processes and providing a platform to manage spatial and non-spatial data, which is expected to result in better decision-making. However, little is known about …
