Journal of Electrochemistry
Mg-x %Mg1.8La0.2Ni(x=10,20 and 30)nanocomposites have been synthesized by high-energy ball milling method. Results of the X-ray diffraction(XRD),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and selected area electron diffraction(SAED)tests were showed that each composite had a nanocrystalline/amorphous structure, which was beneficial for the improvement of the hydriding and dehydriding properties of Mg.The hydrogen absorption temperature decreased and the hydrogen sorption kinetics were improved.Under the conditions of 423 K and the hydrogen pressure of 2.5MPa,each composite could reach the maximum hydriding capacity within 50 s.

Journal of Electrochemistry
The electrochemical behaviors of Actinomycin D(ACTD)at glod electrode were investigated by square wave stripping voltammeter in the KH2PO4-Na2HPO4 buffer solution(pH=5.90).The sensitive oxidation peak of ACTD was observed and the potential peak for ACTD is-0.17 V(vs.SCE).The Experimental parameters, such as pH value, amplitude, accumulation potential and time were optimized, and a direct electroanalytical method for determining ACTD was developed. The peak currents were proportional to the concentration of ACTD in the range of 0.1μmol·L-1~10.0μmol·L-1,and the linear regression coefficient equaled 0.9991.The detection limit for ACTD was 1.0×10-8mol·L-1.

Electrochemical Performance Of Li(1-X)MXFepo4 Cathode Materials Synthesized By Polymer Pyrolysis Route, Ting Li, Jiang-Feng Qian, Yu-Liang Cao, Han-Xi Yang, Xin-Ping Ai
Journal of Electrochemistry
Olivine Li1-xMxFePO4(M=Cr3+, Mg2+, Mn2+, Ni2+) were synthesized by a polyacrylates-pyrolysis route. The structural and electrochemical properties of the as-synthesized cathode materials were investigated by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and electrochemical charge/discharge cycling. The results indicate that the metallic ions doped at low concentration do not affect the crystalline structure of the material, but considerably improve the rate capability and cycle performance of LiFePO4 at high rate.

In local effective potential energy theories such as the Hohenberg-Kohn-Sham density functional theory (HKS-DFT) and quantal density functional theory (Q-DFT) electronic systems in their ground or excited states are mapped to model systems of noninteracting fermions with equivalent density. From these models, the equivalent total energy and ionization potential are also obtained. This paper concerns the nonuniqueness of the local effective potential energy function of the model system in the mapping from a nondegenerate ground state, the nonuniqueness of the local effective potential energy function in the mapping from a nondegenerate excited state, and in the mapping to a model …
Adaptive Treatment Of Van Der Waals Interactions In Empirical Bond-Order Potentials With Application To Junction Formation In Carbon Nanotubes, Aibing Liu
All Dissertations
Molecular dynamics (MD) simulation of reactive condensed-phase hydrocarbon systems is a challenging research area. The AIREBO potential is particularly useful in this area because it can simulate bond breaking and bond forming during chemical reactions. It also includes non-bonded interactions for systems with significant intermolecular interactions.
The first part of this dissertation describes a method to adaptively incorporate van der Waals interaction of carbon atoms into the AIREBO force field. In bond-order potentials, the covalent bonding interactions adapt to the local chemical environment, allowing bonded interactions to change in response to local chemical changes.
Non-bonded interactions should adjust to their …

We recently described the high-resolution X-ray structure of a helical bundle composed of eight copies of the β-peptide Zwit-1F. Like many proteins in Nature, the Zwit-1F octamer contains parallel and antiparallel helices, extensive inter-helical electrostatic interactions, and a solvent-excluded hydrophobic core. Here we explore the stability of the Zwit-1F octamer using circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, analytical ultracentrifugation (AU), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and NMR. These studies demonstrate that the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of Zwit-1F closely resemble those of α-helical bundle proteins. Together these studies should provide a model for the design of β-peptide proteins with biological functions.

Journal of Electrochemistry
Nano-silicon oxide was doped into a novel comblike polyether,poly(3-(methoxy(triethylenoxy))methyl-3'-methyloxetane) to prepare a series of composite polymer electrolyte. The ion conductivity measurement revealed that the composite polymer electrolyte added with 5% weight fraction of SiO2 has the highest ion conductivity of 7.8×10-5 S/cm at 30℃ and 4.5×10-4 S/cm at 80℃,which is increased 30%~60% as compared to the polymer electrolyte without adding any SiO2.DSC results implied that the nano-silicon oxide inserts into the macromolecule chains to increase the free volume and decrease the glass transition temperature to enhance the ion conductivity. In addition,it seems that the crystallization occurred due …

Porous alumina templates with different apertures were fabricated by the pore widening and increase of the anodic oxidation voltage, and then Cu nanowires were synthesized in porous alumina templates by alternating electro-deposition method. The transmission spectrum and polarization spectrum of Cu/PAA composite films were measured.Experiment have indicated that both the pore widening and increase the anodic oxidation voltage can make the transmittance drop, but the pore widening cannot enhance the polarization performance of the micropolarizer. The extinction ratio can be improved with increase of the template oxidation voltage or the Cu nanowires' diameter.

According to the different coordination ability between Cobalt(II) porphyrin and Cobalt(Ⅲ) porphyrin,an electrochemical modulated self-assembling process was developed to prepare the CoTMPP/MP/Au(E) modified electrode. The O2 reduction catalytic activity and the Raman spectrum of the CoTMPP/MP/Au(E) modified electrode were found to be similar to those of the CoTMPP/MP/Au(I) modified electrode obtained by the immersion method, which was suggested that both modified electrodes have the similar well oriented structure and electrochemical behavior. Compared with CoTMPP/Au modified electrode, the modified electrodes with mercaptopyridine ligand were showed better electrocatalytic activity and stability.

Journal of Electrochemistry
The effects of direct current(DC) bias voltage on the structure of lipid membranes forming on a glassy carbon electrode(GCE) was investigated by cyclic voltammetry(CV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS).The experiment showed that the lipid membranes can be formed with either positive or negative bias potential exerted. When bias voltage was exerted, bilayer lipid membranes tended to form due to the electrostatic interaction between the superficial positive charges on the polarized electrode and the negative charged part of PC.When the positive bias voltage overrun the range, the lacunas on s-BLMs would increase, and the BLMs would be broken.A proper equivalent circuit was nonlinearly fitted, based on the …

The electrodes in both Li/SOCl2 cells and BCX cells were studied by ac impedance spectroscopy. The results indicate that the resistance of the electrode passive layer increased with the storage time, then became stabilized in both kinds of cells. But the electrode resistance decreased a lot after adding BrCl into the cells. The resistance of the Li electrode decreased about a half to that without BrCl,and the value of the glassy carbon electrode decreased from about 100 kΩ to 2 kΩ.The huge resistance of the glassy carbon electrode indicates that it is the control electrode of the cell.
