Only with both high gravimetric and high volumetric energy densities, can supercapacitors find more extensive applications.In this paper, by making good use of the interesting nanostructures and the high packing densities of RuO2 (nanoshpheres,1.69 g·cm-3) and Co-Ni oxide (nanoflakes, 2.14 g·cm-3), the RuO2//KOH//Co-Ni oxide all-metal oxide asymmetric supercapacitors with high performance were successfully fabricated, which led to the maximum specific capacitance of 217.5 F·g-1 (412.3 F·cm-3) and specific energy density of 61.8 Wh·kg-1 (121 Wh·L-1) in a cell voltage between 0 and 1.5 V in KOH electrolyte. …

Hydrogen energy, a kind of clean and renewable energy, is considered to be the solution to the problems of energy crisis and environmental deterioration. Electrochemical water splitting is an efficient and promising technology for the production of high-purity hydrogen. However, oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode of water electrolyzer limits the efficiency of water splitting due to the high overpotential. Neodymium (Nd) doped titanium (Ti)-based lead dioxide (PbO2) composite anode was prepared by electrodeposition. The surface morphologies and crystal structures of the as-prepared anodes were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique, respectively. The electrochemical performances of PbO2-Nd anode were studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, linear sweep voltammetry and cyclic voltammetry. Additionally, the electrocatalytic activity and durability of PbO2-Nd anode were investigated through the degradation of simulative refractory organic wastewater of phenol. Manganese oxide (MnOx) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are intended to modify the GC electrode for oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Optimization of MnOx loading is carried out and the deposition of 55 cycles was sufficient to obtain the highest activity toward OER. The stability of the catalyst is enhanced by the addition of MWCNTs. As a result, an amount of 22 kWh/Kg of O2 of energy is saved. Several techniques including cyclic voltammetry, linear sweep voltammetry, chronoamperometry, chronopotentiometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy will be combined to track the catalyst activity and to determine its …

By using graphitic carbon nitride nanosheet (g-C3N4 nanosheet) as a support,Pt/g-C3N4 nanosheet catalyst was fabricated by microwave assisted polylol process. The nanoparticles size,composition,structure and optical properties of Pt/g-C3N4 nanosheet were characterized by TEM,XRD,XPS and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. Comparing with the catalytic activities toward formic acid electro-oxidation under dark and visible light illumination,the superior activity of Pt/g-C3N4 nanosheet catalyst was achieved under visible light illumination. In this work, a novel hydrogen peroxide electrochemical sensor was constructed with ferroferric oxide (Fe3O4) magnetic nanoparticles, which demonstrated good electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen peroxide. There existed a good linear relationship between the concentration of hydrogen peroxide and the oxidation peak current in the range of 1.00 × 10-6 ~ 1.00 × 10-3 mol·L-1 (R = 0.9980) with the detection limit of 6.60 × 10-7 mol·L-1. The sensor exhibited good anti-interference ability, high reproducibility and stability.

Platinum (Pt) catalysts modified by other suitable metals significantly enhance their electrochemical activities for formic acid oxidation. In this work, a titanium-supported nanoporous network platinum (nanoPt/Ti) electrode was prepared using a hydrothermal method. The as-prepared nanoPt/Ti electrode was modified with a certain amount of lead by using cyclic voltammetry for different scan cycle numbers (n), namely, n = 10, 15, 20 and 30, to synthesize the novel lead-modified nanoporous Pt (nanoPb(n)-Pt/Ti) electrodes. Electro-oxidation of formic acid on these electrodes was studied with cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and chronopotentiometry in sulfuric acid solution. This work was intended to study the effect of free radicals on the chemical stability of catalyst layer via ex situ accelerated stress test (AST). Fenton reagent was used as the free radical provider in this research. Apart from the decomposition of Nafion in catalyst layer, the agglomerated Pt nanoparticles and the corroded carbon support were also observed after being treated in Fenton reagent for 100 h. A new Ni(dpim)2Cl2complex using 2-(diphenylphosphino)-1-methylimidazole (dpim) as ligand was prepared and served as a catalyst for the electrochemical reduction of CO2. The electrochemical redox behavior of Ni(dpim)2Cl2 in CH3CN/TPABF4 solution under nitrogen atmosphere showed the two-electron irreversible reduction at -0.7 V and one-electron quasi-reversible reduction at -1.3 V. After bubbling CO2 into the electrolyte, the reduction peak appeared at -1.3 V became irreversible and the peak current increased from 0.48 mA·cm-2 to 0.55 mA·cm-2. The electrochemical oxidation of p-chlorophenol on porous Ti/BDD electrode cooperated with synergistic effect of cathode dechlorination was studied. Electrochemical degradation tests of p-chlorophenol were conducted in single and double compartment electrolytic cells separately, and the results showed that the mineralization happened mainly in the anode region. The product of chloride ions produced from the cathodic reduction of 4-chlorophenol in the single cell migrated to the anode region and further generated active chlorine toward electro-catalytic oxidation. The polyaniline-carbon (PAnC) electrode was prepared by the polymerization of aniline monomer and activated carbon in ice water bath, and followed by chemical deposition of manganese dioxide MnO2-PAnC composite material. The specific capacitance of MnO2-PAnC reached 459 F•g-1. The cyclic voltammetric results showed a small deformation in the voltammogram curve obtained with the MnO2-PAnC electrode at high scan rate, indicating good reversibility and capacitive properties. Based on the equivalent circuit model, by considering both the dynamic gas pressure model and the dynamic heat transfer model, a lumped parameter model is developed. The start process of the fuel cell is simulated by using SIMULINK software. The undershoot of the voltage is observed from the simulation results, and the response time of the voltage is basically the same as that of the fuel cell temperature, which indicates that the temperature has great influence on the dynamic performance of the fuel cell. Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell performance may be improved by application of additional magnetic fields. In this work, one square permanent magnet, made of either 16 combination cylinder magnets with homopolarity or 16 combination cylinder magnets with heteropolarity, was exerted on the fuel cell surface to produce additional magnetic field affecting PEM fuel cell performance. The influences of magnetic field status (rotating, static and none) on polarization and power density curves measured in a PEM fuel cell were investigated. Nickel-rich cathode materials LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O2(NCM622)were synthesized by a co-precipitation-solid state sintering method at different temperatures. The structure, morphology and electrochemical performance of the as-prepared materials were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) /Rietveld refinement, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrochemical experiments. It is found that NCM622 calcined at 800 ℃ showed the lowest degree of cation disorder (~1.97%) with a high initial Coulombic effiency of 92.2% and the capacity retention of 81.4% after 100 cycles.

Tungsten carbide (WC) is a promising electrocatalyst, however, its electrocatalytic activity is far inferior to Pt and Pt-group metal. In this work, nitrogen-doping tungsten carbide (WN|WC) catalysts with a nanoplate morphology were prepared via the tungsten nitride (WN) as the precursor and sodium tungstate as the tungsten source. The SEM and TEM results indicated that carbon atoms entered into the WN lattice to form the hexagonal close packed WC phase. Asphaltenes are a group of planar molecules found in crude oil and are prone to aggregation which often causes blockage of pipes along the oil production stream resulting a huge economic downside. In an effort to understand the hierarchical organization of asphaltene in different solvents and concentrations, the solution structure of various asphaltene solutions were studied using small-angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). Glassy carbon (GC) electrode is intended to be modified with nickel oxide (NiOx) and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) in the anodic reaction of water electrolysis. NiOx deposition time is optimized and a 5 min was enough to attain the maximum activity. A further modification of the catalyst with MWCNTs could greatly enhance its stability during continuous electrolysis. As an outcome, an energy amount of 21.7 kWh/KgO2 is minimized. Several electrochemical and materials characterization setups will be utilized to test the catalyst activity and to know its geometry and structure.

Formic acid (FA) electro-oxidation (FAO) was investigated at a binary catalyst composed of palladium nanoparticles (PdNPs) and copper oxide nanowires (CuOxNWs) and assembled onto a glassy carbon (GC) electrode. /e deposition sequence of PdNPs and CuOxNWs was properly adjusted in such a way that could improve the electrocatalytic activity and stability of the electrode toward FAO. Several techniques including cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction were all combined to report the catalyst’s activity and to evaluate its morphology, composition, and structure. /e highest catalytic activity and stability were obtained at the CuOx/Pd/GC …

Development of palladium (Pd) catalysts with high electroactivity for alcohol oxidation is significant for alcohol fuel cells. In this work, Pd nanoparticles were formed by sodium borohydride (NaBH4) reduction method and subsequently deposited on the surface of carbon supported ferriferrous oxide (Fe3O4/C) composites to obtain the Pd/Fe3O4-C catalysts with different Fe3O4 loadings. This paper describes a simple CO-assisted reduction approach for the controllable synthesis of ultrathin Pd nanowires along the one-dimensional (1D) direction. Ultrathin Pt films from one to several atomic layers were successfully decorated onto ultrathin Pd nanowires by utilizing Cu UPD deposition, and followed by in-situ redox replacement reaction of UPD Cu by Pt. The core–shell structure and composition of the Pd@Pt ultrathin nanowires have been verified using transmission electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry. The influences of ferrous/ferric (Fe2+/Fe3+) interconvertion on electrochemical reduction and electrode reaction of Fe3+ were investigated by using linear sweep voltammetry, potentiostatic method and cyclic voltammetry (CV) in acidic electrolytes containing chloride ion (Cl-) and sulfate ion (SO42-). It was shown that the reduction process of Fe3+/Fe2+ would take place in two independent stages: (1) the reduction of Fe3+ to Fe2+ at E=0.35V and (2) the co-precipitation of Fe2+ by forming Fe(OH)2 (E≤-0.3 V) instead of Fe. The development of Fe/N/C electrocatalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is vital for the large-scale applications of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. Understanding the active site structure will contribute to the rational design of highly active catalysts. In this study, the as-prepared Fe/N/C catalyst based on poly-m-phenylenediamine (PmPDA-FeNx/C) catalyst with the high ORR activity was subjected to the high-temperature heat treatment again at 1000 ~1500 oC.
