Journal of Electrochemistry
The Ru-Ir /Ti electrode as cathode to electrolysis the synthetic phenolic wastewater was studied. The effect of the initial chloride concentration on the electrolytic treatment result has been discussed. If the initial chloride concentration in wastewater increases, the time of the electrochemical oxidation of phenol can be shorten, in other words the apparent rate constant is greater. The middle matters of electrochemical oxidation of phenol in the chloride system detected out by HPLC and GC-MS is mainly 1-chloro-phenol, 4-chloro-phenol, 2,4-dichloro-phenol, 2,6-dichloro-phenol, 2,4,6-trichloro-phenol, …

Journal of Electrochemistry
A MWNTs modified GC electrode was constructed successfully to be used to detect hydrogen peroxide. Two methods of maximum anodic current of cyclic voltommogram and chronoamperometry were adopted to measure the concentration of hydrogen peroxide. The results show that the MWCNTs can enlarge the effective surface area of GC electrode and can enormously enhance the electron transfer. The sensitivity and correlation coefficient for hydrogen peroxide detection are 2.84 μA/mmol·L-1,0.997 and 1.5 μA/mmol·L-1,0.971 for cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry, respectively. The procedure of the two methods to detect hydrogen peroxide is simple, and the results obtained are satisfied.

Journal of Electrochemistry
A Ni-scandia-stabilized zirconia(Ni-ScSZ) cermet anode modified by coating with nano-sized gadolinium-doped ceria(GDC,Gd0.2Ce0.8O2) was prepared using a simple combustion process for the solid oxide fuel cell(SOFC) running on methane fuel. X-ray diffraction(XRD) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) indicated that the surface of Ni-ScSZ was coated by nano-sized GDC particles(<100nm). Single cell testing showed that the 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anode had better performance. The highest power densities of the cell with this anode were 825 and 848mW/cm2 at 850℃ in humidified hydrogen and methane, respectively, whereas the corresponding values were 584 and 586mW/cm2 for the cell with Ni-ScSZ anode.Electrochemical impedance spectra(EIS) illustrated that the cell with Ni-ScSZ anode exhibited far greater impedances than the cell with 2.0%(by mass) GDC-coated Ni-ScSZ anode. Then the …100nm).>

Silver(Ag) was deposited in the pores of Nafion membrane by ion exchange and succedent hydrogen reduction;the structures of Nafion-Ag membrane were measured by TEM and XRD,the diffusion coefficients of oxygen in Nafion-Ag was determined by electrochemical limited current method. The results showed that after deposited silver, the pores in the Nafion were enlarged by silver grains;the oxygen diffusion coefficient was increased about four times.By introducing silver in the thin Nafion film around the cathode catalyst, the performance of PEM fuel cell have a evident increasing in high current density, which shows the facilitated effects of silver to oxygen transportation in PEM fuel cell.

Journal of Electrochemistry
Gold nanocrystals with controllable size were synthesized through a simple electroreduction method using poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)(PVP) of different polymerization degree as both stabilizer and shape-controller for gold nanoclusters.Individual gold nanoparticles spontaneously assembled into the wire-and ring-shaped nanoparticle aggregates depending on the PVP's dynamic stretching and curling, and precursor nanoparticles grew into flat,single-crystalline nanoprisms with thickness of dozens of nanometers based on the oriented aggregation between particles.Besides,core-shell Au/Ag nanoparticles were conveniently synthesized through two-step electroreduction of noble metal ions in the presence of PVPK30.The electrochemical synthetic method based on PVP provides a new path for preparation of noble metal nanostructured materials with different shape …

Study Of The Electrooxidation Of Glycerol On Oxide And Pd/C Composite Catalysts, Zhi-Yuan Yan, Chang-Wei Xu, Pei-Kang Shen
Journal of Electrochemistry
Oxide and Pd on carbon composite catalysts have been prepared by intermittent microwave heating(IMH) method. The performance of the catalysts for glycerol oxidation in alkaline solution is studied by electrochemical techniques. It is shown that the Pd/C catalyst is active for glycerol electrooxidation. However, the oxide-Pd/C catalysts are even better in terms of the onset potential that is more negative and peak current density. The ratio of oxide to Pd is optimized according to the electrochemical measurement. The results reveal that the addition of oxide into the Pd/C induces the synergistic effect for glycerol electrooxidation.

Journal of Electrochemistry
The resistance to electrochemical oxidation of multi-wall carbon nanotubes(CNT) with various diameters is investigated by applying a fixed potential of 1.2 V(RHE) for 120 h in 0.5 mol L-1 H2SO4.The oxidation current of CNTs decreases with their diameters, but CNTs between 10~20 nm in diameter(D1020) shows the lowest oxidation current.XPS analysis shows that, after oxidation, the increase in surface oxygen for D1020 is the smallest, implying that the oxidation degree for D1020 is the lowest. The conclusion can be reached that CNTs between 10~20 nm in diameter are the most resistant to electrochemical oxidation. The difference in electrochemical stability of CNTs …

Electrochemical Behavior And Reduction Mechanism Of High Valence Silver Oxide Ag3O4 In Alkaline Solution, Yan Cheng, Ming Yu, Man-Ming Yan, Zhi-Yu Jiang
Journal of Electrochemistry
The electrochemical properties of high-valence silver oxide Ag3O4 in alkaline solution were investigated for the first time and the reduction mechanism of Ag3O4 was proposed. It can be recognized that Ag3O4 consists of Ag(Ⅲ) and Ag(Ⅱ)~(*). From the results of voltammetry and XRD experiments it was found that the reduction process of Ag3O4 was more complicated. It could be electrochemically reduced through the series reactions of Ag(Ⅲ) →Ag(Ⅱ) →Ag(Ⅰ) →Ag(O) at low discharge rate or Ag(Ⅲ) →Ag(Ⅰ) →Ag(O) at higher discharge rate. And the Ag(Ⅱ)~(*) could be reduced to …

Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Glucose On Nano Pt/C Electrode, Cui-Lian Chen, Xiao-Lan Wei, Pei Kang Shen
Electrocatalytic Oxidation Of Glucose On Nano Pt/C Electrode, Cui-Lian Chen, Xiao-Lan Wei, Pei Kang Shen
Journal of Electrochemistry
Nano Pt/C electrocatalysts were prepared by intermittent microwave heating method. The electrooxidation of glucose on smooth Pt and~Pt/C electrodes has been studied and compared. The results showed that the electrochemical properties on nano Pt/C were improved due to the reduction of the overpotential and the increase in the kinetic rate. The surface area would be significantly increased when the particle size of the catalyst was reduced to nano-scale,resulting in the increase in the activity. The enhancement in the resistance to poisoning could be explained that the oxygen-containing species are easier to react with poisoning species on nano Pt/C and re-active the electrode.

Journal of Electrochemistry
CeO2 was added to Pt/C catalyst in the cathode of PEMFC by both sol and impregnation methods. The samples were evaluated by TEM,cyclic voltammogram techniques and proton exchange membrane fuel cell performance test. The addition of CeO2 obviously improved the performance of PEMFC and represented a notable function of oxygen enrichment in the cathode side. But with the addition of CeO2,part of the catalyst surface was covered and led to the performance drop of the PEMFC.The best content of CeO2 is 1% when it is added by impregnation method and 3% when it is added by sol method.
