Multichannel Spectrophotometry For Analysis Of Organophosphate Paraoxon In Beverages, Miroslav Pohanka, Jana Zdarova Karasova, Kamil Kuca, Jiri Pikula
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Multichannel spectrophotometry was performed to assay for paraoxon in spiked beverages. A 96-well microplate was used for this purpose. The measuring protocol was based on inhibition of the enzyme acetylcholinesterase by paraoxon that resulted in decreased or no reaction of the enzyme product thiocholine with Ellman's reagent (5,5'-dithiobis [2-nitrobenzoic acid]). The above assay was practically tested using spiked drinking water, mineral water, and coffee. Analytical parameters such as the limit of detection, time, and sample size consumption were adequate. The limit of detection for beverages ranged from 32 to 48 ppb corresponding to 0.32-0.48 ng of paraoxon in absolute values. …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Some bioactive organotin(IV) derivatives of 3,4-dichlorophenylacetic acid (HL) were synthesized by reacting the ligand acid with various di- or tri-organotin compounds (in suitable mole ratios) in the presence of triethylamine. The structural investigation was carried out via multinuclear (^1H, ^{13}C, and ^{119}Sn) NMR, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. The crystal structure of 4 comprises a central Sn_2O_2 core with O atoms bonded to 2 dibutylbis(3,4-dichlorophenylacetato)tin(IV) units. All the Sn atoms of 4 are essentially 5-coordinated in distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. Some of the compounds exhibited significant antibacterial and antifungal activity.

Density Functional Theory Investigation Of Electrophilic Addition Reaction Of Chlorine To Tricyclo[4.2.2.2^{2,5}]Dodeca-1,5-Diene, Rza Abbasoğlu, Ahmet Yaşar
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Potential energy surface (PES) of the tricyclo[4.2.2.2^{2,5}]dodeca- 1,5-diene (TCDD)-Cl_2 system was studied by B3LYP/6-311+G(d,p) method and the configurations [reactants, molecular charge-transfer (CT) complex, transition states (TS1 and TS2), intermediate (INT), and product (P)] corresponding to the stationary points (minima or saddle points) were determined. Initially, a molecular CT-complex forms between Cl_2 and TCDD. With a barrier of 22.362 kcal mol^{-1} the CT-complex can be activated to an intermediate (INT) with energy 14.682 kcal mol^{-1} higher than that of the CT-complex. The intermediate (INT) then transforms easily (barrier 5.102 kcal mol^{-1}) into the final, N-type product. Accompanying the breaking of the …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A novel series of complexes of the type [MLX_2] where M= Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II); X= C^- or NO_3^- were synthesized by template condensation of hydrazine hydrate, acetaldehyde, 2,4-pentanedione, and thiocarbohydrazide in the presence of divalent metal salt in methanolic solution. The complexes were characterized with the help of elemental analysis, conductance measurements, magnetic measurements, electronic, NMR, XPS, and infrared and far infrared spectral studies. Electronic spectra along with magnetic moments suggest 6-coordinated octahedral geometry for these complexes. The low value of molar conductance indicates them to be non-electrolytes.

Electrocatalytic oxidation of hydrazine on a glassy carbon electrode with carminic acid as a homogeneous mediator in 0.1 M phosphate buffer solution (pH 8.0) was studied. Cyclic voltammetry study showed that the catalytic current of the system depends on the concentration of hydrazine. The magnitude of the peak current obtained by linear sweep voltammetry for carminic acid increased sharply in the presence of hydrazine and proportional to the hydrazine concentration in the ranges of 5.0-800.0 \mu M and the detection limit was 3.0 \mu M by this technique. The detection limit was promoted by differential pulse voltammetry and decreased to …
Stabilizing Cyclacene Molecules, Muthana Shanshal
Stabilizing Cyclacene Molecules, Muthana Shanshal
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
It is shown that introducing a single methylene group into each trannulene ring of a cyclacene molecule compels the formation of a non-bonded molecular orbital, NBMO, in the ring. The union of both trannulenes conforms to a first order perturbation change in the total energy according to Dewar's PMO theory. The NBMO coefficients can be calculated then according to Coulson's pairing theorem. The PMO calculated new HOMO-LUMO energies of the cyclacene indicate the relative stabilization of the singlet over the triplet state of the cyclacene. The results are confirmed by the DFT calculation of differently substituted bis, methylene cyclacenes. The …

A Theoretical Study Of The Effects Of Polar Substitution On The Activation Barriers For Internal Rotation Around The C-N Bond In P-Substituted Nitrosobenzenes: Comparison Of Dft And Mp2 Calculations, Şafak Özhan Kocakaya, Necmetti̇n Pi̇ri̇nççi̇oğlu
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
The activation barriers for internal rotation around the C-N bond in p-substituted nitrosobenzenes were calculated using the density functional theory (DFT) and second-order Møller-Plesset (MP2) methods with the 6-31+g(d) basis set. The polarisable continuum model (PCM) was used to model the solvent effect. An explicit water molecule was also introduced to form a hydrogen bond with the nitrosogroup and its effect on the barrier was studied by DFT. The barriers were well-correlated with Hammett sigma^+ rather than sigma values, meaning a strong resonance effect. The MP2 method produces better and comparable results with the few available experimental values.

Using glucose oxidase as a model enzyme, a novel rhodanine derivative chemiluminescence biosensor for the determination of glucose was formed based on multilayer-enzyme membrane as receptor, which was assembled via layer-by-layer assembly of sol-gel and glucose oxidase-gold nano-particles inside a glass tube. Compared with the traditional chemiluminescence biosensor, the proposed biosensor had some remarkable advantages, such as good selectivity of substrate, good response performance, good stability, good sensitivity, and longer service life. The linear range was from 1.0 \times 10^{-6} to 5.0 \times 10^{-2} mol L^{-1} (r = 0.9991). The detection limit was 5.0 \times 10^{-7} mol L^{-1}. In this …

This article describes the preparation and characterization of anticancer drug-loaded poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) microparticles. PLGA microparticles loaded with doxorubicin HCl (DOX) were prepared via o/w emulsion solvent evaporation. The release characteristics, encapsulation efficiency, size, and morphology of the PLGA microparticles were also determined. A cytotoxicity test was performed by using Glioma RG2 cancer cells to investigate the cytotoxicity of DOX-loaded PLGA microparticles. The DOX-loaded PLGA microparticles had an average diameter of 500 \pm 9 nm. The DOX encapsulation efficiency and drug loading were 22.75% and 0.78%, respectively. DOX-loaded PLGA microparticles displayed a significant cytotoxicity toward the RG2 cells as compared to …

2-(4-Amino-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-oxo-4,5--dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol- 1-yl)-N'-[(2,6-dihalogenophenyl)-methylene]acetohydrazides (3a,b) was obtained via the formation of 2-(4-amino-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-oxo-4,5- dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)acetohydrazide (2), which was obtained starting from 4-amino-5-(4-chlo\-rophenyl)-2,4-dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (1) in 2 steps. 2-{[4-amino-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-5-oxo-4,5--dihydro-1H- 1,2,4-triazol-1-yl]acetyl}-N-phenylhydra-zine carbothioamide (4), which was prepared starting from 2, was converted to the corresponding 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivative (5) in acidic media. Moreover, the basic treatment of 4 resulted in the formation of 4-amino-5-(4-chlorophenyl)- 2-[(4-phenyl-5-thioxo-4,5-dihydro-1H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)methyl]-2,4- dihydro-3H-1,2,4-triazol-3-one (7). The reactions of compounds 5 and 7 with methyl iodide in the presence of sodium ethoxide afforded the corresponding N-methyl (6) and S-methyl (8) derivatives, respectively. The synthesis of Mannich bases (10a and 10b) was performed from the reaction of 7 with …

Tin oxide nanoplates and nanoballs were fabricated using a cationic surfactant of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTABr) as an organic supramolecular template and tin(IV) chloride as an inorganic precursor via the hydrothermal and conventional heating methods. Urea, which decomposes to ammonium and hydroxide ions during hydrolysis, was used as the source of slow homogeneous precipitation of Sn^{4+} with OH^- to control the particle size. The influence of different reaction parameters (time, temperature, and ratio of Sn^{4+} to CTABr) on particle sizes, particle distribution, and morphology was investigated using X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. XRD …
