Titrimetric And Spectrophotometric Determinations Of Some Phenothiazine Psychotropics Using Chloramine-T, Kanakapura Basavaiah, Javarappa Manjunathaswamy

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A simple, convenient and accurate indirect titrimetric method and a rapid, sensitive and precise indirect spectrophotometric method for the determination of six phenothiazine drugs using chloramine-T as an oxidant are described. The titrimetric method is based on the oxidation of the drugs in sulphuric acid medium by a known excess of chloramine-T and iodometric determination of the unreacted chloramine-T. In the spectrophotometric method, the unreacted oxidant is made to react with metol in the presence of an aromatic amine to produce a purple-red product with the absorption maximum at 520 nm. The absorbance is found to decrease linearly with increasing …

Application Of Proton Conducting Polymer Electrolytes To Electrochromic Devices, Ayhan Bozkurt Jan 2002

Application Of Proton Conducting Polymer Electrolytes To Electrochromic Devices, Ayhan Bozkurt

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Electrochromic display devices have been fabricated using Polydiallyldimethylammonium dihydrogenphosphate (PAMA^+ H_2PO_4^-) blended with H_3PO_4 as the electrolyte and WO_3 as the electrochromic film. The WO_3 deposited glass electrodes were doped with protons to form H_xWO_3 in which color depends on the charge density (CD) ranging from 0.01 to 0.04 C/cm^2. Proton conducting films of PAMA^+ H_2PO_4^- 2 H_3PO_4 (2 moles of acid per polymer repeat unit) were sandwiched between two electrodes to obtain the following symmetric configuration: Glass/ITO/WO_3/H^+ -electrolyte film/H_xWO_3 /ITO/Glass. Prior to construction of the electrochromic windows, the electrochemical stability of polymer/acid blends was determined via cyclic voltammetry (CV).

The Selective Protection And Deprotection Of Ambident Nucleophiles With Parent And Substituted Triarylmethyls, İbrahi̇m Demi̇rtaş, Bülent Büyükkidan, Mahfuz Elmastaş

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

N-triphenylmethyl and N-4,4'-dimethoxytriphenylmethyl of o-aminophenol, m-aminophenol, and p-aminophenol compounds were easily prepared from triphenylmethyl chloride and 4,4'-dimethoxytriphenyl- methyl chloride. S-triphenylmethyl-2-mercapto ethanol was also selectively synthesized using the triphenylmethyl chloride and 2-mercapto ethanol. The reactivity of nitrogen and sulfur versus oxygen in the protection reactions was compared. In principle, the protection of aminophenols and 2-mercapto ethanol with triarylmethyls (trityls) may take place on the oxygen. However, in this framework, we discuss the different reactivities of oxygen, nitrogen and sulfur towards triphenylmethyl chloride (TrCl) and 4,4'-dimethoxytriphenylmethyl chloride (DMTrCl) and find that nitrogen and sulfur are more reactive than oxygen.

Automated Recognition Of Ergogenic Aids Using Soft Independent Modeling Of Class Analogy (Simca), M. Praisler, J. Van Bocxlaer, A. De Leenheer, D. L. Massart

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

The introduction of effective drug testing procedures in doping control reduced, but did not eliminate, their abuse by athletes. The most important analytical challenge is the recognition of the new analog compounds. In attempts to circumvent existing controlled substance laws, slightly modified chemical structures (by adding or changing substituents at various positions on the banned molecules) are used. As a result, no substance belonging to a prohibited class may be used nowadays, even if it has not been specifically listed. We present a chemometric procedure acting as an automated GC-FTIR screening test detecting the molecular structural similarity of unknown compounds …

Biological Reduction Of Perchlorate In Ion Exchange Regenerant Solutions Containing High Salinity And Ammonium Levels, Tina M. Gingras, Jacimaria R. Batista Jan 2002

Biological Reduction Of Perchlorate In Ion Exchange Regenerant Solutions Containing High Salinity And Ammonium Levels, Tina M. Gingras, Jacimaria R. Batista

Civil and Environmental Engineering and Construction Faculty Research

The most promising technologies to remove perchlorate from water are ion exchange and biological reduction. Although successful, ion exchange only separates perchlorate from water; it does not eliminate it from the environment. The waste streams from these systems contain the caustic or saline regenerant solutions used in the process as well as high levels of perchlorate. Biological reduction could be used to treat the regenerant waste solutions from the ion exchange process. A treatment scheme, combining ion exchange and biodegradation, is proposed to completely remove perchlorate from the environment. Perchlorate-laden resins generate brines containing salt concentrations up to 6% or …
