The purpose of this research is to prepare the CIS and TRANS isomers of the 2, 3 and 4-methylcyclohecanecarboxylic acids and their 2-diethylaminoethyl esters.
This series of compounds is of interest because of the anti-tumor activity shown by some ethanolamine derivatives. The compounds to be prepared in this study represent modifications of these structures to determine if further investigation in this area is worthwhile. A pharmacological evaluation of these compounds will be made since many esters of amino alcohols have demonstrated pharmacological activity. "l-bromo-2,3-epoxybutane reacted with sodium iodide in acetone to give 3-iodo-l,2-epoxybutane in 70.1 per cent yield. 3-bromo-l,2-epoxybutane produced l-iodo-2,3-epoxybutane in 69.9 per cent yield when it was allowed to react with a solution of sodium iodide in acetone. No other product could be isolated after either reaction, although it is possible that another compound may have been produced in very small amounts. The iodoepoxides were oxidized to the corresponding α-iodoacid in approximately ninety per cent yield by silver oxide"--Summary, page 40.

One of the problems still unsolved is the nature of the mechanism of the anodic dissolution of metals like zinc, magnesium, beryllium, cadmium, and aluminum in aqueous salt solutions. Several schools of investigators have proposed different and opposing theories to explain the discrepancies which often arise between coulometric data and the weight loss of metal electrodes in certain salt solutions.

"Corrosion has been one of the costly problems to industry because each year losses due to corrosion are in excess of six billion dollars. Corrosion is caused by the tendency of all metals to become oxidized and return to their natural state. Oxidation may be suppressed by restraining the flow of electrons from the system, thereby inhibiting corrosion.

Introduction
The configuration of biphenyl has been the subject of much investigation and many recent reviews (1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 17, 21, 22). Of particular interest has been the configuration of 2,2' -bridged biphenyl derivatives. The preparation of an optically active 2,2' -three-carbon-atom-bridged biphenyl having an ultraviolet absorption maximum at 250 mμ, has been recently described (14). Although the compound was easily racemized, this property requires that a non-planar configuration be assigned to this biphenyl (I). Furthermore, this ultraviolet spectra indicates that inter-ring conjugation must exist in the non-planar configuration.

The reaction of lead tetraacetate with compounds of the following general structure (not able to enter here) was first reported by Iffland and Criner (12). In the case of ketoximes (A = oxygern), a nitrosoacetate was produced which was oxidized to the more stable acetoxy-nitrocompound as follows: (not able to enter here)
The generality of the reaction was established by preparation of a series of acetoxy-nitrocompounds from alicyclic and aliphatic ketoximes. The apparently similar reaction of cyclohexanonephenylhydrazone (A = N-¢) with lead tetraacetate was reported, but the reaction product was not identified.

"The analytical expressions for the transport coefficients (i.e. viscosity, thermal conductivity, and diffusivity) of an ideal gas can be derived from the kinetic theory of gases. It is also possible to make these analytical expressions adequate for real gases if the intermolecular forces of attraction and repulsion for these gases have been taken into consideration.

"The object of this research was to prepare first the simplest homologue of the epoxy-ketone considered by Russell to have been his product. If this homologue, 4-benzoyl-4-methyl-1,2-epoxypentane, could be prepared and caused to form a cyclic derivative of the type given by 1,4-diketones with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone, the organic chemist would be given a new approach to substituted 1,2-diazines as well as a previously unreported reaction of the epoxide grouping. If this reaction could be made to occur, other epoxides of this series would be prepared and treated in the same manner.
