Replenishment Policy For Pareto Type Deteriorating Items With Quadratic Demand Under Partial Backlogging And Delay In Payments, Ganesh Kumar, Ramesh Inaniyan, Sunita - Dec 2020

Replenishment Policy For Pareto Type Deteriorating Items With Quadratic Demand Under Partial Backlogging And Delay In Payments, Ganesh Kumar, Ramesh Inaniyan, Sunita -

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The present model develops a replenishment policy in which the demand rate is quadratic polynomial-time function. Deterioration rate is a Pareto type function. Shortages are partial backlogging and delay in payments are allowed. Holding cost is a linear function of time. The backlogging rate varies with the waiting duration for the next replenishment. The present paper determines the optimal policy for the individual by minimizing the total cost. The optimization procedure has been explained by a numerical example and a detailed sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution has been carried out to display the effect of various parameters.

Introduce Gâteaux And Frêchet Derivatives In Riesz Spaces, Abdullah Aydın, Erdal Korkmaz Dec 2020

Introduce Gâteaux And Frêchet Derivatives In Riesz Spaces, Abdullah Aydın, Erdal Korkmaz

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, the Gâteaux and Frêchet differentiations of functions on Riesz space are introduced without topological structure. Thus, we aim to study Gâteaux and Frêchet differentiability functions in vector lattice by developing topology-free techniques, and also, we give some relations with other kinds of operators.

On Higher-Order Duality In Nondifferentiable Minimax Fractional Programming, S. Al-Homidan, Vivek Singh, I. Ahmad

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we consider a nondifferentiable minimax fractional programming problem with continuously differentiable functions and formulated two types of higher-order dual models for such optimization problem.Weak, strong and strict converse duality theorems are derived under higherorder generalized invexity.

On An Ecological Model Of Mutualisim Between Two Species With A Mortal Predator, Srinivasarao Thota Dec 2020

On An Ecological Model Of Mutualisim Between Two Species With A Mortal Predator, Srinivasarao Thota

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we study an ecological model of a three-space food chain consists of two logically growing mutual species and third species acts as a predator to second mutual species with Holling type II functional response. This model is constituted by a system of nonlinear decoupled ordinary differential equations. By using perturbed method, we identify the nature of the system at each equilibrium point and also global stability is investigated for this model using Lypanov function at the possible equilibrium points.

Numerical Computations Of Vortex Formation Length In Flow Past An Elliptical Cylinder, Matthew Karlson, Bogdan Nita, Ashwin Vaidya Sep 2020

Numerical Computations Of Vortex Formation Length In Flow Past An Elliptical Cylinder, Matthew Karlson, Bogdan Nita, Ashwin Vaidya

Department of Mathematics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

We examine two dimensional properties of vortex shedding past elliptical cylinders through numerical simulations. Specifically, we investigate the vortex formation length in the Reynolds number regime 10 to 100 for elliptical bodies of aspect ratio in the range 0.4 to 1.4. Our computations reveal that in the steady flow regime, the change in the vortex length follows a linear profile with respect to the Reynolds number, while in the unsteady regime, the time averaged vortex length decreases in an exponential manner with increasing Reynolds number. The transition in profile is used to identify the critical Reynolds number which marks the …

Optimal Allocation Of Two Resources In Annual Plants, David Mcmorris Jul 2020

Optimal Allocation Of Two Resources In Annual Plants, David Mcmorris

Department of Mathematics: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

The fitness of an annual plant can be thought of as how much fruit is produced by the end of its growing season. Under the assumption that annual plants grow to maximize fitness, we can use techniques from optimal control theory to understand this process. We introduce two models for resource allocation in annual plants which extend classical work by Iwasa and Roughgarden to a case where both carbohydrates and mineral nutrients are allocated to shoots, roots, and fruits in annual plants. In each case, we use optimal control theory to determine the optimal resource allocation strategy for the plant …

Evaluating Driving Performance Of A Novel Behavior Planning Model On Connected Autonomous Vehicles, Keyur Shah May 2020

Evaluating Driving Performance Of A Novel Behavior Planning Model On Connected Autonomous Vehicles, Keyur Shah

Honors Scholar Theses

Many current algorithms and approaches in autonomous driving attempt to solve the "trajectory generation" or "trajectory following” problems: given a target behavior (e.g. stay in the current lane at the speed limit or change lane), what trajectory should the vehicle follow, and what inputs should the driving agent apply to the throttle and brake to achieve this trajectory? In this work, we instead focus on the “behavior planning” problem—specifically, should an autonomous vehicle change lane or keep lane given the current state of the system?

In addition, current theory mainly focuses on single-vehicle systems, where vehicles do not communicate with …

A Novel Mathematical Model Of The Trojan Y-Chromosome Strategy With Optimal Control, Christopher Turner May 2020

A Novel Mathematical Model Of The Trojan Y-Chromosome Strategy With Optimal Control, Christopher Turner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Invasive species are a prevalent problem all over the world. Controlling and eradicating an invasive species is an even more diffcult problem. The Trojan Y Chromosome (TYC) eradication strategy is one control method. This method alters the female to male sex ratio by introducing sex reversed males called supermales. These sex reversed males can only produce male progeny. Mathematical models of this strategy have shown that a population can be driven to extinction with a continuous supply of these sex reversed males. There are many different mathematical models of this strategy, but most have serious flaws, such as negative solutions …

Target Control Of Networked Systems, Isaac S. Klickstein Apr 2020

Target Control Of Networked Systems, Isaac S. Klickstein

Mechanical Engineering ETDs

The control of complex networks is an emerging field yet it has already garnered interest from across the scientific disciplines, from robotics to sociology. It has quickly been noticed that many of the classical techniques from controls engineering, while applicable, are not as illuminating as they were for single systems of relatively small dimension. Instead, properties borrowed from graph theory provide equivalent but more practical conditions to guarantee controllability, reachability, observability, and other typical properties of interest to the controls engineer when dealing with large networked systems. This manuscript covers three topics investigated in detail by the author: (i) the …

Teaching And Learning Of Fluid Mechanics, Ashwin Vaidya Apr 2020

Teaching And Learning Of Fluid Mechanics, Ashwin Vaidya

Department of Mathematics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

Fluid mechanics occupies a privileged position in the sciences; it is taught in various science departments including physics, mathematics, environmental sciences and mechanical, chemical and civil engineering, with each highlighting a different aspect or interpretation of the foundation and applications of fluids. Doll’s fluid analogy [5] for this idea is especially relevant to this issue: “Emergence of creativity from complex flow of knowledge—example of Benard convection pattern as an analogy—dissipation or dispersal of knowledge (complex knowledge) results in emergent structures, i.e., creativity which in the context of education should be thought of as a unique way to arrange information so …

Filtered-Dynamic-Inversion Control For Unknown Minimum-Phase Systems With Unknown Relative Degree, Sumit Suryakant Kamat Jan 2020

Filtered-Dynamic-Inversion Control For Unknown Minimum-Phase Systems With Unknown Relative Degree, Sumit Suryakant Kamat

Theses and Dissertations--Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

We present filtered-dynamic-inversion (FDI) control for unknown linear time-invariant systems that are multi-input multi-output and minimum phase with unknown-but-bounded relative degree. This FDI controller requires limited model information, specifically, knowledge of an upper bound on the relative degree and knowledge of the first nonzero Markov parameter. The FDI controller is a single-parameter high-parameter-stabilizing controller that is robust to uncertainty in the relative degree. We characterize the stability of the closed-loop system. We present numerical examples, where the FDI controller is implemented in feedback with mathematical and physical systems. The numerical examples demonstrate that the FDI controller for unknown relative degree …

Hybrid Electric Vehicle Energy Management Strategy With Consideration Of Battery Aging, Bin Zhou Jan 2020

Hybrid Electric Vehicle Energy Management Strategy With Consideration Of Battery Aging, Bin Zhou

Dissertations, Master's Theses and Master's Reports

The equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) is a well-known energy management strategy for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV). ECMS is very computationally efficient since it yields an instantaneous optimal control. ECMS has been shown to minimize fuel consumption under certain conditions. But, minimizing the fuel consumption often leads to excessive battery damage. The objective of this dissertation is to develop a real-time implementable optimal energy management strategy which improves both the fuel economy and battery aging for Hybrid Electric Vehicles by using ECMS. This work introduces a new optimal control problem where the cost function includes terms for both fuel consumption …
