In this work, we take a close look at a general extension to the traditional AB/BA
crossover design that is commonly used in clinical trials to determine the effectiveness
of new candidate drugs. While the traditional crossover design requires each patient
in the study to be measured on both treatment A and treatment B, we consider the
possibility of additional measurements being available on each patient. This produces
designs such as the AABB/BBAA design which has been used in previous studies.

We present an alternative method for pre-processing and storing point data, particularly for Geospatial points, by storing multilateration distances to fixed points rather than coordinates such as Latitude and Longitude. We explore the use of this data to improve query performance for some distance related queries such as nearest neighbor and query-within-radius (i.e. “find all points in a set P within distance d of query point q”). Inventory control is important to ensuring sufficient quantities of items are available tomeet demands of customers. The Newsvendor problem is a model used in Operations Research to determine optimal inventory levels for fulfilling future demands. Our study extends the newsvendor problem to a food truck problem. We used simulation to show that the food truck does not reduce to a newsvendor problem if demand depends on exogenous factors such temperature, time etc. We formulate the food truck problem as a multi-product multi-period linear program and found the dual for a single item. This data is often treated as a matrix, and a variety of mathematical methods have been developed to glean information from this data structure such as matrix decomposition. The Laplacian matrix, for example, is commonly used to reconstruct networks, and the eigenpairs of this matrix are used in matrix decomposition. The Newsvendor problem is a classical supply chain problem used to develop strategies for inventory optimization. The goal of the newsvendor problem is to predict the optimal order quantity of a product to meet an uncertain demand in the future, given that the demand distribution itself is known. While the "path integral" formulation of quantum mechanics is both highly intuitive and far reaching, the path integrals themselves often fail to converge in the usual sense. Richard Feynman developed regularization as a solution, such that regularized path integrals could be calculated and analyzed within a strictly physics context. Over the past 50 years, mathematicians and physicists have retroactively introduced schemes for achieving mathematical rigor in the study and application of regularized path integrals. In data sets where there are a small number of observations but a large number of variables observed for each observation, ordinary least squares estimation cannot be used for regression models. There are many alternative including stepwise regression, penalized methods such as ridge regression and the LASSO, and methods based on derived inputs such as principal components regression and partial least squares regression. In this dissertation we develop methods for obtaining the existence of mild solutions to certain partial differential equations with initial data in weighted L p spaces and apply them to some examples as well as improve the solutions to some known PDEs studied extensively in the literature. We begin by obtaining a version of a Stein-Weiss integral inequality which we will use to obtain general convolution inequalities in weighted L p spaces using the techniques of interpolation. We consider both the nonspatial model and spatial model of a species that gives birth to eggs at the end of the year. It is assumed that the timing of emergence from eggs is controled by phenology, which is density dependent. The neural rings and ideals as algebraic tools for analyzing the intrinsic structure of neural codes were introduced by C. Curto, V. Itskov, A. Veliz-Cuba, and N. Youngs in 2013. Since then they have been investigated in several papers, including the 2017 paper by S. G\"unt\"urk\"un, J. Jeffries, and J. Sun, in which the notion of polarization of neural ideals was introduced. The motivation for this thesis is the computer-assisted calculation of the Jones poly- nomial from braid words in the Artin braid group on three strands, denoted B3. The method used for calculation of the Jones polynomial is the original method that was created when the Jones polynomial was first discovered by Vaughan Jones in 1984. This method utilizes the Temperley-Lieb algebra, and in our case the Temperley-Lieb Algebra on three strands, denoted A3, thus generalizations about A3 that assist with the process of calculation are pursued.

The inherent heterogeneity of tumor tissue presents a major challenge to nanoparticle-medicated drug delivery. This heterogeneity spans from the molecular to the cellular (cell types) and to the tissue (vasculature, extra-cellular matrix) scales. Here we employ computational modeling to evaluate therapeutic response as a function of vascular-induced tumor tissue heterogeneity. Using data with three-layered gold nanoparticles loaded with cisplatin, nanotherapy is simulated with different levels of tissue heterogeneity, and the treatment response is measured in terms of tumor regression. The results show that tumor vascular density non-trivially influences the nanoparticle uptake and washout, and the associated tissue response. The drug …

Previous work in Integro-Difference models have generally considered Allee effects and over-compensation separately, and have either focused on bounded domain problems or asymptotic spreading results. Some recent results by Sullivan et al. (2017 PNAS 114(19), 5053-5058) combining Allee and over-compensation in an Integro-Difference framework have shown chaotic fluctuating spreading speeds. In this thesis, using a tractable parameterized growth function, we analytically demonstrate that when Allee and over-compensation are present solutions which persist but essentially remain in a compact domain exist. In a voting situation where there are only two competing alternatives, simple majority rule outputs the alternatives with the most votes or declares a tie if both alternatives receive the same number of votes. For any non-negative integer k, the difference of votes rule Mk outputs the alternative that beats the competing alternative by more than k votes. Llamazares (2006) gives a characterization of the difference of votes rules in terms of five axioms.
