“Detailed monitoring of soil moisture provides a view of how our whole Earth system works.”
The Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite mission was launched in January 2015; its main purpose is to acquire global measurements of soil moisture. SMAP partnered with the GLOBE program (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment), which is an international program where students collect environmental variables in a scientifically methodical way. SMAP readings and maps have various uses in various fields, which include monitoring drought, predicting floods, assisting in crop productivity, and linking water, energy and carbon cycles. The dissertation studies about the existence of three different types of attractors of three multi-component reaction-diffusion systems. These reaction-diffusion systems play important role in both chemical kinetics and biological pattern formation in the fast-growing area of mathematical biology.
In Chapter 2, we prove the existence of a global attractor and an exponential attractor for the solution semiflow of a reaction-diffusion system called Boissonade equations in the L2 phase space. Image security over open network transmission is a big concern nowadays. This paper proposes another methodology for color image encoding and decoding using two stage Hill Cipher method which is connected with Arnold Transformation. The forgoing created a strategy for encryption and decryption of color image information and touched on just the premise of keys. In this plan, keys and the agreement of Hill Cipher (HC) are basic. In this discussion we consider an autonomous parabolic epidemic 2-dimensional system modelling the dynamics of transmission of immunizing diseases for a closed population into bounded regular domain. Our model takes into account diffusion of population with external influx as well as one class of infected individuals. We study the well-posedness two-component diffusion equations including external supplies with Neumann conditions using upper/lower solutions and analytic semigroups. In case of constant population or not, with non-oscillatory solution and constant diffusion, this problem admits travelling wave solutions whose minimum wave speed is surveyed here.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by two molecular pathologies: cerebral β-amyloidosis in the form of β-amyloid (Aβ) plaques and tauopathy in the form of neurofibrillary tangles, neuritic plaques, and neuropil threads. Until recently, only Aβ could be studied in humans using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging owing to a lack of tau PET imaging agents. Clinical pathological studies have linked tau pathology closely to the onset and progression of cognitive symptoms in patients with AD. We report PET imaging of tau and Aβ in a cohort of cognitively normal older adults and those with mild AD. Multivariate analyses identified unique …

The purpose of this paper is to study a straight rod, held at both ends, with a known twist and tension or compression. We study the stability of this steady state when the system is dominated either by inertia or drag. In order to do this, we first replicate the work of Goriely and Tabor to look at the case with inertia, without drag. After conducting the analysis for that case, we then apply their framework to perform a linear stability analysis of a model that is without inertia, but with hydrodynamic drag. The James Spinymussel (Pleurobema collina) is an endangered mussel species at the top of Virginia’s conservation list. The James Spinymussel plays a critical role in the environment by filtering and cleaning stream water while providing shelter and food for macroinvertebrates; however, conservation efforts are complicated by the mussels’ burrowing behavior, camouflage, and complex life cycle. The goals of the research conducted were to estimate detection probabilities that could be used to predict species presence and facilitate field work, and to track individually marked mussels to test for habitat preferences. Broiler production in Arkansas was valued at over $3.6 billion in 2013 (University of Arkansas Extension of Agriculture). Consequently, improvement in any phase of the production process can have significant economic impact and animal welfare implications. From the time poultry leave the farm and until they are slaughtered, they can be exposed to harsh environmental conditions, both in winter and in summer. After road transportation, birds are left to wait in holding sheds once they arrive at the processing plant, for periods of approximately 30 minutes to two hours.
