Life History Of The Ginko Petrified Forest Or The Autobiography Of An Ancient Oak Tree, George F. Beck
Geological Sciences Faculty Scholarship
An account of a fossilized log at Ginkgo Tree State Park written by the man who discovered the fossil trees and established there were Ginkgo trees in North America in the distant past.
The booklet is written from the perspective of one of the fossilized trees, tracing the geologic forces that led to it becoming a fossil.

Petrographic Analyses Of The Chepultepec Sandstones Of The Norris Reservoir Region, Tennessee, Chilton Eaton Prouty
Petrographic Analyses Of The Chepultepec Sandstones Of The Norris Reservoir Region, Tennessee, Chilton Eaton Prouty
Masters Theses
"The Norris Reservoir is located in northeastern Tennessee, in the Appalachian Valley. It includes all or portions of Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Granger, Knox, and Union counties. The area is shown by the map of Pate I. It is approximately thirty-five miles long in a northeast-southwest direction and about eighteen to twenty miles wide, in a northwest-southeast direction. The area is bounded on the northwest by the Cumberland escarpment and on the southeast by Clinch Mountain. The other boundaries are arbitrarily drawn near the town of Clinton to the southwest and near Tazewell to the northeast"--Introduction. Location and Nature of the …

Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
In the field, samples were taken vertically and horizontally along the various outcrops in different sections of central and south-central Montana. At important localities the samples were taken about every half-foot vertically; in other sections they were taken every few feet.

Age Relationships Of Ore Deposits Of Southwestern Montana (A Microscopic Study), Charles R. Trueworthy
Age Relationships Of Ore Deposits Of Southwestern Montana (A Microscopic Study), Charles R. Trueworthy
Bachelors Theses and Reports, 1928 - 1970
Although considerable work has been undertaken by some prominent geologists, the best known of which is that of Paul Billingsley and J. A. Grimes', in investigating the ore deposits of the Boulder Batholith and surrounding area, there has not been any complete microscopic investigation of these deposits, as a whole, published in the literature. With this in mind it was suggested to the writer by Professor Paul A. Schafer, of the Montana School of Mines, that a microscopic study of the ores of this region would be a worthwhile geologic problem.
It was thought that the mineral association and the …
Geology And Acid Intrusions Of Marlboro Township, Vermont, Stanley Gordon Elder
Geology And Acid Intrusions Of Marlboro Township, Vermont, Stanley Gordon Elder
Honors Papers
It is the aim of this paper to examine the mineralization resulting from the intrusion of acid dikes and veins into the schists of Marlboro township, Vermont, and to give a brief account of the geology of the area.
The problem of mineralization in southern Vermont is one which has been treated very slightly and is one which is deserving of more study than it has received. This problem results from the presence of numerous acid igneous masses in all the formation of the region. Petrographic research in the igneous intrusions was done partially with the hope that the study …

The Preservation And Interpretation Of Ripple Marks And Sun Cracks, Donald Hewson Radcliffe
The Preservation And Interpretation Of Ripple Marks And Sun Cracks, Donald Hewson Radcliffe
Bachelors Theses
"The Roubideaux sandstone (Cambrian) which is rather extensively found in the vicinity of Rolla, Mo., offers exceptional opportunities for the study of ripple marks and sun cracks in place. Fig. 1 shows the principal localities in which these structures are to be found in this vicinity.
The statement is made by Van Hise and others that ripple marks can be used in determining structures, and that to do this it is necessary to be able to tell whether a ripple mark is right side up or overturned. The rule as laid down by them is: That a normal ripple mark …

Coal In Nebraska, Roy V. Pepperberg
Coal In Nebraska, Roy V. Pepperberg
Conservation and Survey Division: Faculty and Staff Publications
Until February, 1906, Nebraska was termed "the state without a mine," and may still be called the state with but a single mine, and yet it would be impossible to tell how much prospecting has been done, or to estimate the number of thousands of dollars that have been spent in this state trying to develop paying mines from the thin beds of coal discovered throughout various parts of the state in the Carboniferous and Cretadeous formations.

Some Kentucky Clays, Including Kaolinic, Plastic And Fire Clays: Clays In Several Parts Of Kentucky, With Some Account Of Sands, Marls And Limestones, Aug Foerste, James H. Gardner
Bulletin--KGS
The bulletin is preliminary in character and is offered now simply in order to meet the urgent calls for all information concerning our clays that is at present available. A more comprehensive report, in which not only the geology and distribution of our clays, but also their technological values, will be given, will follow in due course.
Data for such a bulletin are being gathered as rapidly as circumstances will permit. Among the clays upon which more field work is required are some of those associated with the coals and Conglomerate Measures of the Eastern Coalfield; those in other Lower …
