Convergence Of The Boundary Integral Method For Interfacial Stokes Flow, Keyang Zhang Dec 2020

Convergence Of The Boundary Integral Method For Interfacial Stokes Flow, Keyang Zhang

Dissertations

Boundary integral numerical methods are among the most accurate methods for interfacial Stokes flow, and are widely applied. They have the advantage that only the boundary of the domain must be discretized, which reduces the number of discretization points and allows the treatment of complicated interfaces. Despite their popularity, there is no analysis of the convergence of these methods for interfacial Stokes flow. In practice, the stability of discretizations of the boundary integral formulation can depend sensitively on details of the discretization and on the application of numerical filters. A convergence analysis of the boundary integral method for Stokes flow …

Corrosion Of Coated And Uncoated Steel Reinforcement In Concrete, Jana Abou Shakra, Rouba Joumblat, Jamal Khatib, Adel Elkordi Dec 2020

Corrosion Of Coated And Uncoated Steel Reinforcement In Concrete, Jana Abou Shakra, Rouba Joumblat, Jamal Khatib, Adel Elkordi

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

Corrosion of reinforcing steel is the one of the main causes of deterioration in reinforced concrete structure. During the initial stage of corrosion, the steel volume increases. This creates tensile stresses in the concrete, which can eventually lead to cracking, delamination, and spalling. This potential risk of corrosion in a structure is quite unpredictable. Therefore, this paper examines the influence of accelerated corrosion on the bond between concrete and the coated and uncoated steel bars. The bar coating consisted of epoxy rich in zinc. Six concrete mixes were prepared. Three mixes had cement contents of 300, 400 and 500 Kg/m3 …

Concrete Mix Design Using Simple Equations, Hakim Abdelgader, Ramadan Suleiman, Abdalla Adam, Jamal Khatib

BAU Journal - Science and Technology

The behaviour of concrete, whether fresh or hardened, depends basically on the behaviour of its components and the relationship between them, therefore, obtaining a concrete with certain properties depends fundamentally on the concrete mix design. Concrete mix design generally includes two main steps: 1-Selection of the main components suitable for the concrete (cement, aggregate, water, and additives); 2-Determination of more economical mix ratios to fulfil the workability, strength and efficiency requirements. Currently, there are many international methods locally approved for mix designs. They are all related to each other, they give relatively the same quantities of the mix components and …

Quantum Simulation Of The Schrodinger Equation Using Ibm's Quantum Computers, Mohamed Abouelela Dec 2020

Quantum Simulation Of The Schrodinger Equation Using Ibm's Quantum Computers, Mohamed Abouelela

Capstone and Graduation Projects

This thesis explores the capabilities of a quantum computer to simulate quantum systems. We give an introduction to the basics of quantum computing with the Bernstein-Vazirani algorithm as a demonstration. Four quantum systems are then simulated using IBM's QASM simulator using 6 qubits: the free particle, eigenstate of an infinite-well, particle in a step potential, and quantum tunneling. Because of the high number of gates, a 6-qubit simulation will not be feasible on current quantum computers. The number of qubits was, thus, reduced to 4 qubits, and was simulated on IBM's 5 qubit quantum computers (ibmq 5 vigo). We conclude …
