Report On The Condition Trend Of The Western Australian Pastoral Resource Base 2016, Andrew Watson, Philip Thomas
Report On The Condition Trend Of The Western Australian Pastoral Resource Base 2016, Andrew Watson, Philip Thomas
Natural resources published reports
Consistent with the Pastoral Lands Board’s (PLB) direction, data and analyses are reported at the Land Conservation District (LCD) scale. Some caution is urged when interpreting the report as this summary data may mask the variation in condition evident on leases within an LCD.
In the Kimberley, the analyses of the WARMS point data suggest that the trend in rangeland condition indicated by the frequency of desirable perennial grasses is stable. This is consistent with previous recent reports. However, the analyses of MODIS satellite plant cover data and greenness response indicated by NDVI, suggest areas of the Derby – West …

With the rise in interest of unconventional plays, efforts have moved to understand these formations across 12 orders of magnitude through nm-km scale. Recent work by others has shown the importance of the nanometer range due to the fact this is the predominant pore size within shales. In attempt to understand nanopore structure and production behavior within a shale unconventional reservoir, a number of complementary experimental methods must be employed. This research involves the use of wettability droplet analysis for micron scale assessment of wetting properties and Mercury Intrusion Capillary Pressure (MICP) analysis for pore structure characterization within the Spraberry …

Coursenetworking And Community: Linking Online Discussion Networks And Course Success, Adrienne L. Traxler, Andrew Gavrin, Rebecca Lindell
Physics Faculty Publications
Large introductory science courses are isolating for many students, and reducing this isolation is an important factor for student retention in college. Active learning courses often build community among students as an explicit goal, but many commuter or non-traditional students have limited on-campus time. Online discussion forums provide one tool for engaging students with each other outside of class time. This study uses social network analysis with forum data from an introductory physics course to examine students' positions in the class discussion network and link it to their final course grades. We find that, contrary to expectations, there is no …

Journal of Public Transportation
The main purpose of this paper is to define appropriate criteria for the systematic approach to evaluate and prioritize multiple candidate corridors for public transport investment simultaneously to serve travel demand, regarding supply of current public transportation system and road network conditions of Isfahan, Iran. To optimize resource allocation, policymakers need to identify proper corridors to implement a public transportation system. In fact, the main question is to adopt the best public transportation system for each main corridor of Isfahan. In this regard, 137 questionnaires were completed by experts, directors, and policymakers of Isfahan to identify goals and objectives in …
Qos And Trust Prediction Framework For Composed Distributed Systems, Dimuthu Undupitiya Gamage
Qos And Trust Prediction Framework For Composed Distributed Systems, Dimuthu Undupitiya Gamage
Open Access Dissertations
The objective of this dissertation is to propose a comprehensive framework to predict the QoS and trust (i.e, the degree of compliance of a service to its specification) values of composed distributed systems created out of existing quality-aware services. We improve the accuracy of the predictions by building context-aware models and validating them with real-life case studies. The context is the set of environmental factors that affect QoS attributes (such as response time and availability), and trust of a service or a composed system. The proposed framework uses available context-QoS dependency information of individual services and information about the interaction …
Random Walks In A Sparse Random Environment, Anastasios Matzavinos, Alexander Roitershtein, Youngsoo Seol
Random Walks In A Sparse Random Environment, Anastasios Matzavinos, Alexander Roitershtein, Youngsoo Seol
Mathematics and Statistics Faculty Publications
We introduce random walks in a sparse random environment on ℤ and investigate basic asymptotic properties of this model, such as recurrence-transience, asymptotic speed, and limit theorems in both the transient and recurrent regimes. The new model combines features of several existing models of random motion in random media and admits a transparent physical interpretation. More specifically, a random walk in a sparse random environment can be characterized as a “locally strong” perturbation of a simple random walk by a random potential induced by “rare impurities,” which are randomly distributed over the integer lattice. Interestingly, in the critical (recurrent) regime, …

A 10-Point Approximating Subdivision Scheme Based On Least Squares Technique, Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad T. Iqbal
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
In this paper, a 10-point approximating subdivision scheme is presented. Least squares technique for fitting the polynomial of degree 9 to data is used to develop this scheme. The proposed strategy can be used to generate a family of schemes. The important characteristics of the scheme are also discussed. Graphical efficiency of the scheme is shown by applying it on different types of data.
Impact Of Permeable Lining Of The Wall On The Peristaltic Flow Of Herschel Bulkley Fluid, G. C. Sankad, Asha Patil
Impact Of Permeable Lining Of The Wall On The Peristaltic Flow Of Herschel Bulkley Fluid, G. C. Sankad, Asha Patil
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
The peristaltic motion is modeled for the Herschel Bulkley fluid, considered to flow in a non-uniform inclined channel. The channel wall is supposed to be lined with a non-erodible porous material. The flow is considered to be moving in a wave frame of reference moving with same velocity as of the sinusoidal wave. Low Reynolds number and long wave length assumptions are made to solve the model. Analytical solution is obtained for the pressure difference and also for the frictional force. Graphs are plotted, using Mathematica software, for both the results of pressure difference and frictional force against time average …
On The Exchange Property For The Mehler-Fock Transform, Abhishek Singh
On The Exchange Property For The Mehler-Fock Transform, Abhishek Singh
Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)
The theory of Schwartz Distributions opened up a new area of mathematical research, which in turn has provided an impetus in the development of a number of mathematical disciplines, such as ordinary and partial differential equations, operational calculus, transformation theory and functional analysis. The integral transforms and generalized functions have also shown equivalent association of Boehmians and the integral transforms. The theory of Boehmians, which is a generalization of Schwartz distributions are discussed in this paper. Further, exchange property is defined to construct Mehler-Fock transform of tempered Boehmians. We investigate exchange property for the Mehler-Fock transform by using the theory …

The need for environmentally safe reagents for the promotion of organic transformations is critical in order to reduce hazardous waste and byproducts associated with industrial-scale chemical processes. We have developed two practical methods that obviate the need for harsh oxidative and toxic brominating reagents in electrophilic halogenation reactions.
In our hands, a catalytic loading of the inexpensive, commercially available V2O5 (~$0.25/g) promotes the bromolactonization of a series of substituted alkenoic acids in isolated yields up to 97% by means of the in situ generation of bromenium (Br+) from bromide (Br−) at room temperature. This process obviates the need for molecular …

Identity-Based Schemes For A Secured Big Data And Cloud Ict Framework In Smart Grid System, Feng Ye, Yi Qian, Rose Qingyang Hu
Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications
Smart grid is an intelligent cyber physical system (CPS). The CPS generates a massive amount of data for efficient grid operation. In this paper, a big data-driven, cloud-based information and communication technology (ICT) framework for smart grid CPS is proposed. The proposed ICT framework deploys hybrid cloud servers to enhance scalability and reliability of smart grid communication infrastructure. Because the data in the ICT framework contains much privacy of customers and important data for automated controlling, the security of data transmission must be ensured. In order to secure the communications over the Internet in the system, identity-based schemes are proposed …

Miocene-Pliocene Strike-Slip Basin Development Along The Denali Fault System In The Eastern Alaska Range: Chronostratigraphy And Provenance Of The Mccallum Formation And Implications For Displacement, Wai Kehadeezbah Allen
Open Access Theses
The Denali fault system represents one of the major strike-slip faults in North America but very little is known about the amount and timing of displacement on this 2000-km-long structure. The 7.9 M 2002 Denali Earthquake emphasized the importance of this fault system for understanding the deformational record of the upper plate of the southern Alaska convergent margin. Our analysis of the Miocene-Pliocene McCallum Formation located along the east-central part of the Denali fault provides one of the few records for Neogene displacement as well as changes in surface and basin processes related to tectonic transport. We have established a …

Investigation Of Ambient Seismic Noise Using Seismic Interferometry In The Midwestern United States, Joshua Dakota Boschelli
Open Access Theses
The portion of the North American craton occupied by the Midwestern United States is a cratonic platform, where a veneer of Phanerozoic sedimentary strata buries the Precambrian basement up to 7 km. Due to the sediment cover and low topographic relief, the at depth structure of the region remains poorly understood. This region is of particular interest because over the past half-billion years tectonic forces have resulted in the formation of epeirogenic provinces in a stable cratonic interior. Using the OIINK flexible seismic array and the Earthscope Transportable Array, Ambient Seismic Noise Tomography was applied to investigate the crustal structure …

This study introduced an interaction technique that used tangible interaction for 3D modeling. A hybrid interaction technique using a Kinect camera and a smartphone with a gyroscope was developed for the navigating objects in a 3D modeling software. It was then tested on 20 participants categorized as amateurs who had basic 3D/ CAD modeling experience and 20 participants categorized as the experts who had extensive experience working with the modeling software. This research study presents the need for existence of such interaction technique, gaps from the related previous studies, statistical findings from the current study and possible reasons for the …
Lower Food Web Dynamics In Lakes Michigan And Huron: Spatial And Temporal Responses To Recent Oligotrophication, Margaret Hutton Stadig
Lower Food Web Dynamics In Lakes Michigan And Huron: Spatial And Temporal Responses To Recent Oligotrophication, Margaret Hutton Stadig
Open Access Theses
Nutrient abatement programs, originally enacted to counter eutrophication have successfully suppressed nutrient loads and relative primary production in marine and freshwater systems. Recently, the additive impacts of invasive filter feeders have further reduced offshore primary production in several aquatic systems throughout the world. It has been hypothesized that the biological activity of these invasive species may sequester nutrients within the nearshore benthic environment, creating steep gradients in primary production between nearshore and offshore habitats. In the Laurentian Great Lakes, past studies of oligotrophication have primarily focused on food web responses in offshore habitats. Organisms at higher trophic levels have been …
