Business intelligence (BI) allows companies to make faster and better-informed decisions. Unfortunately, implementing BI systems in companies in developing countries is minimal. Limited and costly access to the technology, coupled with the cultural background affecting how people perceive BI, has restricted such implementations. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to explore and describe the lived experiences of chief executive officers (CEOs) in northern Mexico to obtain insight into the challenges of implementing BI systems. No previous quantitative researchers have explored IT adoption in the context of enterprise social computing (ESC). In a Colorado school district, school personnel and parents were concerned that middle school math proficiency levels were low for 2011-2014 and math teachers were not using manipulatives in their classes to increase math performance. The district's math coordinator did not foresee providing specific professional development (PD) for math manipulative use to address these concerns. Without this PD, math teachers may be ill-quipped to teach math concepts when using manipulatives, which, in turn, could lead to further poor math performance. The St. Louis School District (SLSD) provided its students with a virtual education program (VEP) but abandoned it following a cut in federal funding, omitting an alternative pathway for students to complete their education. The problem addressed in this study was the effect of technology and management's decision to discontinue the VEP. Primary care physicians (PCPPs) have been slow to implement electronic health records (EHRs), even though there is a U.S. federal requirement to implement EHRs. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to determine why PCPPs have been slow to adopt electronic health record (EHR) systems despite the potential to increase efficiency and quality of health care. The complex adaptive systems theory (CAS) served as the conceptual framework for this study. Twenty-six PCPPs were interviewed from primary care practices (PCPs) based in southwestern Ohio. Osteoporosis is considered to be the most adverse public health disease associated with substantial mortality among postmenopausal women. Hysterectomy, surgically induced menopause, contributes to the early onset of menopause. However, there was no evidence of an association between early menopause following hysterectomy and osteoporosis among postmenopausal women. The purpose of this quantitative study was to examine the association between demographic and behavioral factors and the prevalence of osteoporosis among hysterectomized postmenopausal women. Shewanellaceae are among the most widely studied electroactive microorganisms. This study reports on Shewanella putrefaciens under anaerobic conditions during applied potential while monitored by spectroscopy. The attachment of the microbe Shewanella putrefaciens onto an indium tin oxide electrode was found to occur after 2 hr of +0.2 V applied potential. Microbial detachment occurred with a 5 mV/s scan rate cyclic voltammogram from +0.2 V to -0.5 V to +0.2 V. This was confirmed through use of a spectroelectrochemical apparatus utilizing a standard 3 electrode setup with evanescent wave spectroscopy.

We present a tool for reasoning in and about propositional sequent calculi. One aim is to support reasoning in calculi that contain a hundred rules or more, so that even relatively small pen and paper derivations become tedious and error prone. As an example, we implement the display calculus D.EAK of dynamic epistemic logic. Second, we provide embeddings of the calculus in the theorem prover Isabelle for formalising proofs about D.EAK. As a case study we show that the solution of the muddy children puzzle is derivable for any number of muddy children. Third, there is a set of meta-tools, …

Objectives Early initiation of sex work is prevalent among female sex workers (FSWs) worldwide. The objectives of this study were to investigate if early initiation of sex work was associated with: (1) consistent condom use, (2) condom negotiation self-efficacy or (3) condom use norms among alcohol-using FSWs in Mombasa, Kenya.
Methods In-person interviews were conducted with 816 FSWs in Mombasa, Kenya. Sample participants were: recruited from HIV prevention drop-in centres, 18 years or older and moderate risk drinkers. This paper presents updated estimates of source parameters for GW150914, a binary black-hole coalescence event detected by the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) in 2015 [Abbott et al. Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 061102 (2016).]. Abbott et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 116, 241102 (2016).] presented parameter estimation of the source using a 13-dimensional, phenomenological precessing-spin model (precessing IMRPhenom) and an 11-dimensional nonprecessing effective-one body (EOB) model calibrated to numerical-relativity simulations, which forces spin alignment (nonprecessing EOBNR). Here, we present new results that include a 15-dimensional precessingspin waveform model (precessing EOBNR) developed within the EOB formalism. We find good agreement with the …

The first observational run of the Advanced LIGO detectors, from September 12, 2015 to January 19, 2016, saw the first detections of gravitational waves from binary black hole mergers. In this paper, we present full results from a search for binary black hole merger signals with total masses up to 100M· and detailed implications from our observations of these systems. Our search, based on general-relativistic models of gravitational-wave signals from binary black hole systems, unambiguously identified two signals, GW150914 and GW151226, with a significance of greater than 5s over the observing period. The molecular conformation of a bis-helicenic terpyridine system is strongly modified upon binding to Zn(II) ion, a process that is accompanied by large changes in the optical and chiroptical properties. This system affords a new type of helicene-based chiroptical switching.

The title compounds C17H14BrNO2, (I), and C17H15NO3, (II), were obtained from the reaction of 6-methoxy-3,4-dihydro-2H-naphthalen-1-one and 2-bromonicotinaldehyde in ethanol. Compound (I) was the expected product and compound (II) was the oxidation product from air exposure. In the crystal structure of compound (I), there are no short contacts or hydrogen bonds. The structure does display [pi]-[pi] interactions between adjacent benzene rings and adjacent pyridyl rings. Compound (II) contains two independent molecules, A and B, in the asymmetric unit; both are non-planar, the dihedral angles between the methoxybenzene and 1H-pyridin-2-one mean planes being 35.07 (9)° in A and 35.28 (9)°in B. In this thesis, we discuss the Gross Pitaevskii Equation (GPE) with harmonic potential and with an angular momentum rotational term in space R^2, which describes the model for Bose-Einstein Condensation. Local Well-Posedness of the equation and the conservation identities for mass, energy and angular momentum are presented. Using the virial identities, we derive the condition for blow-up solution in finite time. Understanding the origins of intermediate mass nuclei requires accurate knowledge of nuclear reaction rates. This thesis addresses two projects targeting measurements of nuclear cross sections relevant in hot astrophysical environments. Direct measurements of neutron capture on 67Zn and 68Zn were performed using the Detector for Advanced Neutron Capture Experiments (DANCE) at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE). A new 68Zn(n,&gamma) cross section in the neutron energy range from 150 eV to 850 keV and Maxwellian-Averaged Cross Sections from 20 keV-100 keV are presented along with the details of the analysis. This dissertation focuses on two extremes of orogenic development in the Himalaya: the timing of early ultra-high pressure related tectonics and the subsequent emplacement of the high grade Greater Himalayan Crystallines. The Himalayan orogeny is one of if not the best example of ongoing collisional systems, marked by the ongoing convergence of the Indian and Asian continents. The presence of coesite in the Tso Morari complex respresents subduction of the Indian continental crust to ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) conditions. "Four pavement sections were investigated using ground penetrating radar (GPR) and Ultrasonic Surface Wave (USW). The objective of this research was to compare the effectiveness of two non-destructive geophysical tools, GPR and the PSPA, in assessing the condition of the pavements, composed of different construction materials. The GPR data were acquired using a 1.5 GHz antenna along five traverses spaced at two ft. intervals approximately 1000 ft. long. "In order to maximize bioethanol production an efficient pretreatment method for the hydrolysis of polysaccharides to fermentable sugars is necessary. Commonly used pretreatment methods are the slow enzymatic hydrolysis and the corrosive mineral acid hydrolysis process that requires a post-treatment neutralization step and generates waste stream. We investigated the high temperature water with carbonic acid catalyst as an alternative method. "Acetaminophen (N-acetyl-p-aminophenol, APAP) is one of the most widely used over-the-counter antipyretic analgesic medications. It is safe at therapeutic doses, but an overdose can result in severe hepato-nephrotoxicity, a leading cause of drug-induced acute liver failure in the U.S. Although a few different mechanisms have been proposed for APAP-induced toxicity, a significant amount of evidence has pointed to the potential involvement of oxidative stress in acetaminophen toxicity. "This study represents the first multi-station investigation of azimuthal anisotropy beneath the interior of north central Africa, including Libya and adjacent regions, using shear wave splitting (SWS) analysis. Data used in the study include recently available broadband seismic data obtained from 15 stations managed by the Libyan Center for Remote Sensing and Space Science, and those from five other stations at which data are publicly accessible.
