The Quality Indicators Of Delivering E-Learning For Dementia Care To Nurses, Zhengyu Zhang, Ping Yu

Dr Ping Yu

The inadequate supply of trained professionals to provide quality care for people with dementia is a big problem. Elearning could provide an effective solution to this challenge. Although e-learning is not a new teaching method, a quality framework is lack that can be used to judge the quality of e-learning delivery for working nurses. This gap thus should be overcomed. Therefore, the primary aim of this study is to identify the quality indicator for effective elearning delivery. Based on these indicators, a quality framework of e-learning packages that teach nurses to deliver dementia care is constructed. The approach taken is …

The Acceptance Of A Clinical It Innovation By The Care Givers In Residential Aged Care 11-Weeks After The Software Implementation In Australia, Ping Yu, Hui Yu, Yi Mu

Dr Ping Yu

End user acceptance and satisfaction with a new IT innovation is the pre-requisite for the successful introduction of this IT solutino into an organization. More than 70 per cent of health IT projects have failed to a certain extent because of its failure to satisfy the functional or non-functional requirements of the end users and thus were not accepted by them. To date, there is no sound evidence to suggest that clinical IT solutions will bring in benefits for a residential aged care facility. This is a real concern for aged care management in investment in clinical IT solutions in …

Development And Testing Of A Work Measurement Tool To Assess Caregivers' Activities In Residential Aged Care Facilities, Esther Munyisia, Ping Yu, David Hailey

Dr Ping Yu

The introduction of computerized information systems into health care practices may cause changes to the way healthcare workers conduct their routine work activities, such as work flow and the time spend on each activity. To date the available work measurement tools are confined to activities in hospitals and do not cover residential aged care facilities (RACFs). There is little evidence about the effects of technology on caregivers' work practices, including the distribution of time on activities in a RACF. This requires the measurement of caregivers' activities using a valid and reliable measurement tool. The contribution of this research is to …

Frequency Selection In Absolute Phase Maps Recovery With Two Frequency Projection Fringes, Yi Ding, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Wengqing Cheng, Shu Wang, Joe F. Chicharo

Dr Yanguang Yu

In a recent published work we proposed a technique to recover the absolute phase maps of two fringe patterns with different spatial frequencies. It is demonstrated that a number of selected frequency pairs can be used for the proposed approach, but the published work did not provide a guideline for frequency selection. In addition, the performance of the proposed technique in terms of its anti-noise capability is not addressed. In this paper, the rules for selecting the two frequencies are presented based on theoretical analysis of the proposed technique. Also, when the two frequencies are given, the anti-noise capability of …

An Energy-Aware Multilevel Clustering Algorithm For Wireless Sensor Networks, Xinfang Yan, Jiangtao Xi, Joe F. Chicharo, Yanguang Yu

Dr Yanguang Yu

Clustering sensors nodes as the basic of routing is an efficient mechanism for prolonging the lifetime of wireless sensor networks. In this paper, the high-efficient multilevel clustering is abstracted as a root tree which has the performances of the minimal relay set and the maximal weight according to graph theory. A mathematical model for the clustering virtual backbone is built. Based on the model, an algorithm called energy-aware multilevel clustering (EAMC) is proposed. The EAMC can reduce the number of relays used for data transmission by minimizing the amount of the nodes in the root tree (that is cluster-head). Furthermore, …

A New Phase Unwrapping Algorithm Based On Three Wavelength Phase Shift Profilometry Method, Limei Song, Xiaoxiao Dong, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Chaokui Yang

Dr Yanguang Yu

Phase Shift Profilometry (PSP) method is widely used in 3D shape measurement. The advantage of the PSP method is that it is less sensitive to the surface reflectivity variations and the object can be measured point by point. But if only a single wavelength λ1 is used, the step height cannot be larger than λ1/4. In order to measure step height object, Gray Code (GC) and Multi-Wavelength Phase Shift Profilometry (MWPSP) method are used. But the GC method cannot solve the problem of the objects with a variety of colors under different illumination. The shortcoming of MWPSP …

An Estimation Method For Feedback Level Factor C Of A Self-Mixing Interferometry System, Yuanlong Fan, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Joe F. Chicharo

Dr Yanguang Yu

This paper presents a fast estimation method for feedback level factor C of a self-mixing interferometry (SMI) system. The reconstruction of a displacement waveform using a SMI signal needs to know a C value. However, it is difficult to maintain a constant C value during the reconstruction process. We study the features of the reconstructed displacement waveforms incorporating different pre-set C values and classify waveforms into two types. Bisection method is introduced in our method for fast estimating C value. The effectiveness of our proposed method has been verified by both simulation and experimental data.

3d Face Recognition Based On A Modified Icp Method, Kankan Zhao, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Joe F. Chicharo

Dr Yanguang Yu

3D face recognition technique has gained much more attention recently, and it is widely used in security system, identification system, and access control system, etc. The core technique in 3D face recognition is to find out the corresponding points in different 3D face images. The classic partial Iterative Closest Point (ICP) method is iteratively align the two point sets based on repetitively calculate the closest points as the corresponding points in each iteration. After several iterations, the corresponding points can be obtained accurately. However, if two 3D face images with different scale are from the same person, the classic partial …

Fpga-Based Signal Processing In An Optical Feedback Self-Mixing Interferometry System, Zongzhen Li, Yanguang Yu, Jiangtao Xi, Huiying Ye

Dr Yanguang Yu

Optical feedback Self-mixing Interferometry (OFSMI) can achieve a high-resolution displacement sensing and measurement by using advanced digital signal processing. However, most existing signal processing algorithms used for OFSMI signals are implemented on a PC by Matlab or other programming languages. In this case, the whole structure of OFSMI sensing system is incompact and the measurement is in low speed. The design trends in sensing systems are towarding to small size, high integration and fast real time processing. These trends require us to improve the existing OFSMI design. It is a good solution to apply Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) technique onto …

Partially Overlapped Range Images Registration Based On Fringe Pattern Profilometry, Xiaochen He, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu

Dr Yanguang Yu

Registration of two three-dimensional (3-D) point sets is a fundamental problem of 3-D shape measurement and modeling pipeline. This paper investigates the automatic pair-wise method to register partially overlapped range images generated by self-developed fringe pattern profilometry (FPP) system. The method is based on the classic iterative closest point (ICP) algorithm but combined with several extensions to adapt to the experimental data. Firstly, the distance function for correspondence finding is modified to be the weighted linear combination of positions and Euclidean invariant features for improving the probability of convergence. In addition, outliers can be discarded through robust statistics and adaptive …

Fast Quality-Guided Phase Unwrapping Algorithm For 3d Profilometry Based On Object Image Edge Detection, Ke Chen, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu Dec 2012

Fast Quality-Guided Phase Unwrapping Algorithm For 3d Profilometry Based On Object Image Edge Detection, Ke Chen, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu

Dr Yanguang Yu

A main challenge associated with 3-dimentional fringe pattern profilometry (3D-FPP) systems is the unwrapping of phase maps resulted from complex object surface shapes with both robustness and speed guaranteed. In this paper we propose a new quality-guided phase unwrapping algorithm. In contrast to the conventional quality-guided methods, we classify pixels on wrapped phase map into two types by detecting edge pixels on object image: high quality (HQ) pixels corresponding to smooth phase changes and low quality (LQ) ones to rough phase changes. In order to improve the computational efficiency, these two types of pixels are unwrapped by means of different …

Dr Yanguang Yu

Turbine machinery has an extraordinary wide range of applications in the aviation, aerospace, automotive, energy and many other industries. The turbine blade is one of the most important parts of turbine machinery, and the characteristic parameters, pressure ratio of the engine and rotating speed of the turbine are all related to the shape and size of blades. Therefore, the profile measurement of turbine blade is an essential issue in the blade machining processing, however, it is difficult and particular to establish the profile measurement of turbine blade because of its complicated shapes and space angles of the blades, and the …

The Fourier Spectrum Analysis Of Optical Feedback Self-Mixing Signal Under Weak And Moderate Feedback, Xiaojun Zhang, Jiangtao Xi, Yanguang Yu, Joe F. Chicharo

Dr Yanguang Yu

The spectrum characteristics of self-mixing signals observed in optical feedback self-mixing interferometry (OFSMI) is studied in this paper. The purpose is to provide guidance for the design of pre-processing techniques for eliminating noise or disturbance. The influence of two important parameters of the OFSMI system on the spectrum, that is, the optical feedback factor and the linewidth enhancment factor, are measured by means of Discrete Fourier transform (DFT). The simulated results show that, at a weak feedback, the OFSMI signals are strictly band limited in nature, with the cut-off frequencies being the vibration frequency and the fringe frequency respectively. Also …

Towards Qos-Based Web Services Discovery, Jun Yan, Jingtai Piao Dec 2012

Towards Qos-Based Web Services Discovery, Jun Yan, Jingtai Piao

Dr Jun Yan

The current UDDI-based web services discovery technologies are designed to discover services which can satisfy consumers’ functional requirements. The consumers’ non-functional requirements such as quality of services are largely ignored in discovery. This may lead to the problem that the services returned from discovery are ineffective and even useless. To solve this problem, this paper presents an approach to achieving QoS-based Web services discovery. Data structures are proposed for both service providers and service consumers to describe non-functional information about services. A serial of algorithms are developed for matching and ranking services according to consumers’ non-functional requirements.

A Generic Construction Of Dynamic Single Sign-On With Strong Security, Jinguang Han, Yi Mu, Willy Susilo, Jun Yan Dec 2012

A Generic Construction Of Dynamic Single Sign-On With Strong Security, Jinguang Han, Yi Mu, Willy Susilo, Jun Yan

Dr Jun Yan

Single Sign-On (SSO) is a core component in a federated identity management (FIM). Dynamic Single Sign-on (DSSO) is a more flexible SSO where users can change their service requirements dynamically. However, the security in the current SSO and DSSO systems remain questionable. As an example, personal credentials could be illegally used to allow illegal users to access the services. It is indeed a challenging task to achieve strong security in SSO and DSSO. In this paper, we propose a generic construction of DSSO with strong security. We propose the formal definitions and security models for SSO and DSSO, which enable …

Swindew-A P2p-Based Decentralized Workflow Management System, Jun Yan, Y. Yang, G. K. Raikundalia Dec 2012

Swindew-A P2p-Based Decentralized Workflow Management System, Jun Yan, Y. Yang, G. K. Raikundalia

Dr Jun Yan

Workflow technology undoubtedly has been one of the most important domains of interest over the past decades, from both research and practice perspectives. However, problems such as potential poor performance, lack of reliability, limited scalability, insufficient user support, and unsatisfactory system openness are largely ignored. This research reveals that these problems are mainly caused by the mismatch between application nature, i.e., distributed, and system design, i.e., centralized management. Therefore, conventional approaches based on the client-server architecture have not addressed them properly so far. The authors abandon the dominating client-server architecture in supporting workflow because of its inherent limitations. Instead, the …

Insc: An Iterative Negotiation Approach For Service Compositions, Q He, Yun Yang, Jun Yan, Hai Jin Dec 2012

Insc: An Iterative Negotiation Approach For Service Compositions, Q He, Yun Yang, Jun Yan, Hai Jin

Dr Jun Yan

The service-oriented paradigm offers support for engineering service-based systems (SBSs) based on service compositions. The selection of services with the aim to fulfil the quality constraints for SBSs and to achieve the optimisation goals is a critical and challenging issue. In particular, when the quality-of-service (QoS) constraints for a SBS are severe, it is often difficult to find an optimal solution for the SBS. Exploiting the competition among service providers can help SBS developers obtain favourable QoS offers for the component services of SBSs and increase the possibility of finding optimal solutions for the SBSs. In this paper, we present …

Design An Automatic Appointment System To Improve Patient Access To Primary Health Care, Hongxiang Hu, Ping Yu, Jun Yan

Dr Jun Yan

Advanced Access model has been introduced in general practice in the United States to improve patient access to primary health care services for more than ten years. It has brought in the benefits of eliminating service provider’s waiting lists, improving patients’ timely access to services and reducing no-show rate. However, to implement this model, practices need to collect relevant information, develop contingency plans and set up practice strategies to balance the provision of care and patient’s demand. These tasks are not always easy to achieve. Understanding the requirements and constraints for effective management of patient booking is essential for developing …

Towards Dynamic Formation Of Temporal Constraints For The Service Level Agreements Negotiation, Azlan Ismail, Jun Yan, Jun Shen Dec 2012

Towards Dynamic Formation Of Temporal Constraints For The Service Level Agreements Negotiation, Azlan Ismail, Jun Yan, Jun Shen

Dr Jun Yan

SLAs play an important role for the QoS-driven service composition. Meanwhile, the temporal constraints are one of the main elements in the management of SLA especially in specifying the validity period of the QoS offers. In practice, the temporal constraints should be generated dynamically by taking the resource capability of the provider into account. The generation should consider various parameters that influence the resource capability such as the expected duration of the required Web service, the amount of current utilization, the amount of available resources, the number of required time slots, etc. Therefore, this paper aims to elaborate this issue …

Modeling Mobile Learning System Using Anfis, Ahmed Al-Hmouz, Jun Shen, Jun Yan, Rami Al-Hmouz

Dr Jun Yan

Personalisation is becoming more important in the area of mobile learning. Learner model is logically partitioned into smaller elements or classes in the form of learner profiles, which can represent the entire learning process. Machine learning techniques have the ability to detect patterns from complicated data and learn how to perform activities based on learner profiles. This paper focuses on a systematic approach in reasoning the learner contexts to deliver adaptive learning content. A fuzzy rule base model that has been proposed in related work is found insufficient in deciding all possible conditions. To tackle this problem, this paper adopts …
