Enhancing Silicon Solar Cell Efficiency With Double Layer Antireflection Coating, Mohamed Medhat, El-Sayed El-Zaiat, Samy Farag, Gamal Youssef, Reda Alkhadry

Turkish Journal of Physics

Antireflection coating on silicon, a high refractive index substrate, was theoretically investigated. The effects of antireflection coating on electrical parameters such as the short circuit current, open circuit voltage, maximum current density, maximum voltage, maximum power, power density, and conversion efficiency of the solar cell were simulated. Various previous works in which solar cell efficiencies were investigated after applying double layer antireflection coating (DLARC) were reviewed. Ti$_{2}$O$_{3}$ and MgF$_{2}$ were then applied in a DLARC design, taking into consideration the refractive index dispersion of the two materials. The results were compared with other works in the solar spectral range (400-1200 …

Effects Of Variable Viscosity And Thermal Conductivity On Magnetohydrodynamic Free Convection Flow Of A Micropolar Fluid Past A Stretching Plate Through Porous Medium With Radiation, Heat Generation, And Joule Dissipation, Gopal Chandra Hazarika, Bandita Phukan

Turkish Journal of Physics

The effects of temperature-dependent viscosity and thermal conductivity on free convection magnetohydrodynamic flow of an optically thin gray, viscous, and incompressible micropolar fluid and heat transfer past a stretching plate through porous medium in the presence of radiation, heat generation, and Joule dissipation were studied. The fluid viscosity and thermal conductivity were assumed to vary as inverse linear functions of temperature. Using similarity transformation, the governing partial differential equations of motion were reduced to ordinary ones, which were solved numerically for prescribed boundary conditions using the shooting method. Numerical results for the velocity, angular velocity, and temperature profiles are shown …

Effects Of Variable Viscosity And Thermal Conductivity On Magnetohydrodynamic Free Convection Dusty Fluid Along A Vertical Porous Plate With Heat Generation, Gopal Chandra Hazarika, Jadav Konch

Turkish Journal of Physics

The present study investigated the effects of variable viscosity and thermal conductivity on a two-dimensional steady laminar magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) free convective boundary layer flow of a dusty fluid over a vertical porous flat plate with viscous dissipation, Joule heating, and heat generation/absorption. Governing partial differential equations of motion were reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations using similarity transformations. The resulting boundary value problem was then solved numerically using the shooting technique. Velocity, temperature, and species concentration profiles of fluid and solid particles were obtained for different flow governing parameters. The results are presented in graphs. We found that …

A Study On $^{7}$Li + $^{120}$Sn Quasi-Elastic Scattering, Murat Aygün, Zeynep Aygün Jan 2016

A Study On $^{7}$Li + $^{120}$Sn Quasi-Elastic Scattering, Murat Aygün, Zeynep Aygün

Turkish Journal of Physics

In the present study, we reexamine quasi-elastic scattering of $^{7}$Li by $^{120}$Sn at incident energies E$_{Lab}$ = 19.5, 20.5, and 25.0 MeV. The theoretical results are obtained by using both a phenomenological model and double-folding model (DFM) within the framework of an optical model. We also investigate the role of the surface potential, which is connected to direct reactions. The agreement between the phenomenological model and the DFM is shown in comparison to each other in connection with the experimental data. This comparison provides information about the similarities and the differences between the models used during the calculations.

A Characteristic Particle Length, Mark D. Roberts Jan 2016

A Characteristic Particle Length, Mark D. Roberts

Turkish Journal of Physics

It is argued that there are characteristic intervals associated with any particle that can be derived without reference to the speed of light $c$. Such intervals are inferred from zeros of wavefunctions, which are solutions to the Schrödinger equation. The characteristic length is $\ell=\beta^2\hbar^2/(8Gm^3)$, where $\beta=3.8\dots$; this length might lead to observational effects on objects the size of a virus.

Structure And Stability Of Primordial Stars, Aysel İbrahi̇m Karafi̇stan Jan 2016

Structure And Stability Of Primordial Stars, Aysel İbrahi̇m Karafi̇stan

Turkish Journal of Physics

For decades large-scale cosmic structures have been modeled as the gravitational amplification of small-density perturbations of the cosmological recombination epoch of the Big Bang. In astrophysics, cosmological nucleosynthesis is considered responsible for the production of the pristine gas, which should be found in the first-generation stars in the form of hydrogen and helium as the main constituents. In the later type of second-generation stars, hydrogen is converted into helium by the CN-cycle reactions, in which heavier elements are produced. These elements are believed to enrich the intergalactic medium by possible star bursts at the last stages of evolution. Stability criteria …

The Observational Status Of Simple Inflationary Models: An Update, Nobuchika Okada, Vedat Nefer Şenoğuz, Qaisar Shafi Jan 2016

The Observational Status Of Simple Inflationary Models: An Update, Nobuchika Okada, Vedat Nefer Şenoğuz, Qaisar Shafi

Turkish Journal of Physics

We provide an update on five relatively well-motivated inflationary models in which the inflaton is a Standard Model singlet scalar field. These include i) the textbook quadratic and quartic potential models but with additional couplings of the inflaton to fermions and bosons, which enable reheating and also modify the naive predictions for the scalar spectral index $n_s$ and $r$, ii) models with Higgs and Coleman-Weinberg potentials, and finally iii) a quartic potential model with nonminimal coupling of the inflaton to gravity. For $n_s$ values close to 0.96, as determined by the WMAP9 and Planck experiments, most of the considered models …

Pp-Waves In Modified Gravity, Ahmet Baykal Jan 2016

Pp-Waves In Modified Gravity, Ahmet Baykal

Turkish Journal of Physics

The family of metrics corresponding to the plane-fronted gravitational waves with parallel propagation, commonly referred to as the family of pp-wave metrics, is studied in the context of various modified gravitational models in a self-contained and coherent manner by using a variant of the null coframe formulation of Newman and Penrose and the exterior algebra of differential forms on pseudo-Riemannian manifolds.

Supergravity Backgrounds And Symmetry Superalgebras, Ümi̇t Ertem Jan 2016

Supergravity Backgrounds And Symmetry Superalgebras, Ümi̇t Ertem

Turkish Journal of Physics

We consider the bosonic sectors of supergravity theories in ten and eleven dimensions corresponding to the low energy limits of string theories and M-theory. The solutions of supergravity field equations are known as supergravity backgrounds and the number of preserved supersymmetries in those backgrounds are determined by Killing spinors. We provide some examples of supergravity backgrounds that preserve different fractions of supersymmetry. An important invariant for the characterization of supergravity backgrounds is their Killing superalgebras, which are constructed out of Killing vectors and Killing spinors of the background. After constructing Killing superalgebras of some special supergravity backgrounds, we discuss the …

Neutron Stars: Compact Objects With Relativistic Gravity, Kazim Yavuz Ekşi̇ Jan 2016

Neutron Stars: Compact Objects With Relativistic Gravity, Kazim Yavuz Ekşi̇

Turkish Journal of Physics

General properties of neutron stars are briefly reviewed with an emphasis on the indispensability of general relativity in our understanding of these fascinating objects. In Newtonian gravity the pressure within a star merely plays the role of opposing self-gravity. In general relativity all sources of energy and momentum contribute to the gravity. As a result, the pressure not only opposes gravity but also enhances it. The latter role of pressure becomes more pronounced with increasing compactness, $M/R$, where $M$ and $R$ are the mass and radius of the star, and sets a critical mass beyond which collapse is inevitable. This …

Exact Solutions To The Geodesic Equations Of Linear Dilaton Black Holes, Alan Hameed Hussein Hamo, Izzet Sakalli Jan 2016

Exact Solutions To The Geodesic Equations Of Linear Dilaton Black Holes, Alan Hameed Hussein Hamo, Izzet Sakalli

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, we analyze the geodesics of the 4-dimensional linear dilaton black hole (LDBH) spacetime, which is an exact solution to the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory. LDBHs have nonasymptotically flat geometry, and their Hawking radiation is an isothermal process. The geodesics motions of the test particles are studied via the standard Lagrangian method. After obtaining the Euler-Lagrange equations, we show that exact analytical solutions to the radial and angular geodesic equations can be obtained. In particular, it is shown that one of the possible solutions for the radial trajectories can be given in terms of the Weierstrass P-function ($\wp $-function), which …

Revisiting The Dyonic Majumdar-Papapetrou Black Holes, Seyedhabibollah Mazharimousavi, Mustafa Hali̇lsoy Jan 2016

Revisiting The Dyonic Majumdar-Papapetrou Black Holes, Seyedhabibollah Mazharimousavi, Mustafa Hali̇lsoy

Turkish Journal of Physics

We extend the Majumdar-Papapetrou solution of the Einstein-Maxwell equations, which are implied generally for static electric charge in nonrotating metrics, to encompass equally well magnetic charges. In the absence of Higgs and non-Abelian gauge fields, 'dyonic' is to be understood in this simpler sense. Cosmologically this may have far-reaching consequences, to the extent that existence of multimagnetic monopole black holes may become a reality in our universe. Infalling charged particle geodesics may reveal, through particular integrals, their inner secrets, which are screened from our observation.

It Is Sufficient To Set The Cosmological Constant To Zero Or To A Small Number At An Initial Time, Recai̇ Erdem Jan 2016

It Is Sufficient To Set The Cosmological Constant To Zero Or To A Small Number At An Initial Time, Recai̇ Erdem

Turkish Journal of Physics

I point out a simple but usually overlooked fact about the cosmological constant problem: to solve the cosmological constant problem it is sufficient to find a symmetry or mechanism that sets the cosmological constant to zero or to a tiny value at some time in the past, provided that general relativity is the relevant theory of gravity, and the energy-momentum tensor (excluding the part of the form of a cosmological constant) is conserved. The relevant symmetry or mechanism need not be applicable today. Any additional cosmological constant term induced by a phase transition in the energy-momentum tensor in this case …

Analysis And Simulation Of Semiconductor Laser Dynamics With Optoelectronic Delay Feedback, Varghese Bejoy, Sivasankaran Rajesh, Vadakkedath Madhom Nandakumaran Jan 2015

Analysis And Simulation Of Semiconductor Laser Dynamics With Optoelectronic Delay Feedback, Varghese Bejoy, Sivasankaran Rajesh, Vadakkedath Madhom Nandakumaran

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this work we investigate semiconductor laser dynamics with optoelectronic delay feedback, both analytically and numerically. Stability criteria are derived from the delay differential equations of the system. Stability curves are obtained in the feedback strength-delay parameter space. We show that delay has a role in determining the stability only for a range of feedback strength and this range can vary depending on other parameters. Effects of bias current and nonlinear gain reduction on the stability curves are shown in the analysis and numerically verified.

The Third Kind Of Darboux Transformation And Multisoliton Solutions For Generalized Broer-Kaup Equations, Sheng Zhang, Dong-Dong Liu Jan 2015

The Third Kind Of Darboux Transformation And Multisoliton Solutions For Generalized Broer-Kaup Equations, Sheng Zhang, Dong-Dong Liu

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, the third kind of Darboux transformation of generalized Broer-Kaup equations is derived from the corresponding spectral problem. By virtue of this Darboux transformation, new 2$N$-soliton solutions with parameters of the generalized Broer-Kaup equations are obtained. Although 2$N$ is an even number, it is graphically shown that in the cases of $N $= 1 and $N$ = 2 the obtained 2$N$-soliton solutions can degenerate into $M$-soliton solutions for any positive integer $M$ less than 2$N$.

Adiabatic Loading Of Rotating Bosons Into 1d Optical Lattice, Shemi S. M. Soliman, Yehya Elsharkawy Jan 2015

Adiabatic Loading Of Rotating Bosons Into 1d Optical Lattice, Shemi S. M. Soliman, Yehya Elsharkawy

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, the entropy-temperature curves are investigated for rotating boson gases in a 1D optical lattice with transverse harmonic confinement. Regimes at which the atomic sample can be significantly heated or cooled by adiabatically changing the lattice depth and the rotation rate are demonstrated. The suggested approach, which is the semiclassical approximation, includes the correction due to the finite size effect. The obtained results show that the entropy--temperature curves have a monotonically increasing nature for this system, in agreement with the standard thermodynamic arguments. For fixed temperature, entropy always increases with the increasing of the rotation rate or optical …

An Approach To Extract The Parameters Of Solar Cells From Their Illuminated I-V Curves Using The Lambert W Function, Ahmed A. El Tayyan

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this article an approach based on the Lambert W function is applied to analysis of various types solar cells and solar modules at a given insolation level and temperature; it can be used to extract accurate values of the parameters of a solar cell/module using experimental data or information available from the datasheet. These parameters are the photocurrent I_{ph}, the reverse saturation current I_o, the diode ideality factor a, the series resistance R_s, and the shunt resistance R_{sh}. The parameters I_o, a, R_s, and R_{sh} are calculated with the aid of 4 equations that can be solved simultaneously while …

Electric And Magnetic Field Induced Geometric Phases For The 2d Harmonic Oscillator In Noncommutative Phase Space, Mai-Lin Liang, Li-Fang Xu Jan 2015

Electric And Magnetic Field Induced Geometric Phases For The 2d Harmonic Oscillator In Noncommutative Phase Space, Mai-Lin Liang, Li-Fang Xu

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this work, we point out the phenomenon whereby the noncommutative corrections to the geometric phases induced by an electric field and a magnetic field have different orders in terms of the noncommutative parameters. The first order correction is zero for the electric field induced geometric phase and it is nonzero for the magnetic field induced geometric phase. In our calculation, the system is in coherent states when the electric field is applied, so the corresponding geometric phase calculated is that of the coherent states. Considering that the noncommutative parameters are very small, it is better to use the magnetic …

The Effects Of Plaster On Radiation Doses Given To Patients, Onur Karaman, Ayşe Güneş Tanir, Mustafa Hi̇cabi̇ Bölükdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Physics

The purpose of this investigation is to measure the total attenuation coefficients (TACs) of plaster materials using different geometries of the plaster, field sizes, and photon beam energies. The percent depth dose measurements were made using X-rays at 6 MV and 18 MV from the linear accelerator in order to plan the probable radiation dose to be given to the patient wearing a plaster cast. The TAC was experimentally determined in solid phantoms of various thicknesses both with and without plaster over areas of 5 x 5 cm^2, 10 x 10 cm^2, and 15 x 15 cm^2. The experimentally measured …

Schrödinger Equation With Modified Smorodinsky-Winternitz Potential, Akpan Ndem Ikot, Hassan Hassanabadi, Elham Maghsoodi, Saber Zarrinkamar

Turkish Journal of Physics

We present solutions of the Schrödinger equation for the modified Smorodinsky-Winternitz potential in an exact analytical manner. The considered potential is of noncentral nature and includes the Pöschl-Teller potential in the radial as the radial term and includes both azimuthal and polar angle-dependent terms. The problem, after separation of variables, is solved via the Nikiforov-Uvarov method and the solutions are reported.

Higher-Dimensional Bianchi Type-Iii Universe With Strange Quark Matter Attached To String Cloud In General Relativity, Pradyumn Kumar Sahoo, Bivudutta Mishra

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this paper, our intention is to construct 5-dimensional Bianchi type-III cosmological models for quark matter attached to a string cloud in general relativity. Different cases for the metric potentials are considered and studied. The physical and kinematical behaviors of all the models are discussed. It is observed that most of the models admit initial singularity.

Cosmological Models Filled With A Perfect Fluid Source In The F(R,T) Theory Of Gravity, Dnyaneshwar Dadaji Pawar, Yadao Solanke Jan 2015

Cosmological Models Filled With A Perfect Fluid Source In The F(R,T) Theory Of Gravity, Dnyaneshwar Dadaji Pawar, Yadao Solanke

Turkish Journal of Physics

We investigated the physical behavior of an LRS Bianchi type I cosmological model in the framework of the f(R,T) theory of gravity in the presence of a perfect fluid, where R is the Ricci scalar and T is the trace of the stress energy tensor of the matter. In order to obtain a deterministic solution of the field equations we assumed the special law of variation of the Hubble parameter proposed by Berman that yields the constant deceleration parameter. Some physical properties of the models are discussed.

Usage Of Attenuation Coefficients Of Some Tissue-Equivalent Materials, Ayşe Güneş Tanir, Fatma Serap Ketenci̇, Mustafa Hi̇cabi̇ Bölükdemi̇r Jan 2015

Usage Of Attenuation Coefficients Of Some Tissue-Equivalent Materials, Ayşe Güneş Tanir, Fatma Serap Ketenci̇, Mustafa Hi̇cabi̇ Bölükdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Physics

The total attenuation coefficients of 11 biological targets against photon energies were plotted within the energy range 1-10 MeV. From these plots a possible equation describing the relationship between photon energy and the total attenuation coefficient was derived. The suggested equation is mu/ rho = 0.0696/ surd E. To test the validity of the equation and to compare the results of the total attenuation coefficients of 3 tissue-equivalent materials (bolus, rice grains, and boiled rice) that could not be determined before, they were determined experimentally by using X-rays produced at 6 MV and 18 MV. The results of the experiment …

A Theoretical Way To Determine Gamma-Ray Mass Attenuation Coefficients Of Materials, Eli̇f Ebru Ermi̇ş, Ercan Pi̇li̇çer, Cüneyt Çeli̇ktaş

Turkish Journal of Physics

The gamma-ray mass attenuation coefficients of various absorber materials such as Ag, Al, Au, Bakelite, Cu, Fe, Pb, Plexiglas, Si, Sn, water, and Zn were determined theoretically at different gamma-ray energies and different absorber thicknesses in order to investigate how the number of gamma photons and their energies affect the calculation of mass attenuation coefficients of the absorbers since no study such a comprehensive work here was encountered. For this purpose, the FLUKA Monte Carlo (MC) and XCOM programs were used. Calculated coefficients were compared to the literature values and found to agree well with them. The FLUKA MC program …

Polaron Effects On The Second-Harmonic Generation In Asymmetrical Semiexponential Quantum Wells, Bo Xiao, Kangxian Guo, Sen Mou, Zhongmin Zhang Jan 2015

Polaron Effects On The Second-Harmonic Generation In Asymmetrical Semiexponential Quantum Wells, Bo Xiao, Kangxian Guo, Sen Mou, Zhongmin Zhang

Turkish Journal of Physics

Polaron effects on the second-harmonic generation (SHG) in asymmetrical semiexponential quantum wells (ASEQWs) are investigated theoretically. By using the framework of the compact-density-matrix approach and iterative method, the analytical expression of the SHG coefficients in ASEQWs is presented. Numerical results are illustrated for a typical GaAs/AlGaAs. By considering the electron--LO--phonon interaction (ELOPI), the energy levels and the wave functions of an electron confined in ASEQWs are obtained. It is found that whether we consider the ELOPI or not, the incident photon frequency $\omega$ and parameters $U_0$ and $\sigma$ also affect the SHG coefficient obviously.

On The Capacitance Of Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells In Steady State, Fabe Idrissa Barro, Moustapha Sane, Bernard Zouma Jan 2015

On The Capacitance Of Crystalline Silicon Solar Cells In Steady State, Fabe Idrissa Barro, Moustapha Sane, Bernard Zouma

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this work, an analytical approach is presented for modeling the capacitance of crystalline silicon solar cells. Based on a one-dimensional modeling of the cell, the excess minority carrier density, the photovoltage, and the capacitance are calculated. The motivation of this work are two-fold: to show base doping density and illumination effects on the capacitance of silicon solar cells, and to propose a determination technique for both dark capacitance and base doping density from C-V characteristics.

A Computational Study On The Interaction Between O$_{2}$ And Pristine And Ge-Doped Aluminum Phosphide Nanotubes, Mahdi Rezaei Sameti, Alireza Kazemi

Turkish Journal of Physics

In this research the interaction between oxygen molecules and the outside and inside surfaces of pristine and Ge-doped (4,4) armchair and (6,0) zigzag models of aluminum phosphide nanotubes (AlPNTs) was systematically investigated using density function theory. Structural parameters, adsorption energy, quantum parameters, HOMO/LUMO orbitals, and nuclear quadrupole resonance (NQR) parameters were calculated for all models of AlPNTs. The aim of this work was to investigate the effects of Ge doping and O$_{2}$ adsorption on the electrical and structural parameters of (4,4) armchair and (8,0) zigzag models of AlPNTs. The results revealed that adsorption energies for all models were negative with …
