Datasets

The authors compiled a hydrologic model for the Edmore at Edmore and Edmore at Webster Coulee Basin using Cold Region Hydrologic Platform. The datasets include observed and simulated streamflow, observed climatic data, land use maps and hydrological representative unit maps (HRU) maps. This study detected a mechanism of hydrologic change to wetting using a cold region hydrologic model during 1991-2024 period.

A large convection cloud chamber has been proposed for exploring aerosol–cloud–drizzle interactions under well-controlled turbulent conditions. Recent theoretical and numerical studies suggest that a convection cloud chamber with two heated and two cooled sidewalls can significantly enhance the liquid water content and thus benefit drizzle initiation. However, a chamber with such a sidewall configuration develops stable stratification and extremely weak turbulence therein. In this study, we conduct large-eddy simulations of a tall convection chamber with five different sidewall configurations consisting of alternating warm and cold patches. The data were collected using a visible monochromatic division-of-time imaging polarimeter. This study delves into the small-scale temperature structure inside the turbulent convection Pi Chamber under three temperature differences (10, 15, and 20 K) at Rayleigh number Ra ~ 10^9 and Prandtl number Pr = 0.7. We performed high-frequency measurements (2 kHz) with the UltraFast Thermometer (UFT) at selected points along the vertical axis. Symmetry Induced Pairing In Dark Excitonic Condensate At Finite Temperature, Adham Alkady, Anatoly Kuklov

Bose Einstein condensate of dark intervalley excitons must be inherently multi-component because of crystalline symmetries. Since valleys hosting such excitons are separated by large quasi-momenta, a minimal inter-component Josephson-type coupling can only be established between pairs of excitons from the time-reversed valleys. As a result, a paired condensate can emerge at finite temperature, that is, the off-diagonal order exists for the pairs from the time-reversed valleys, while the individual valleys are disordered. This prediction follows from the elementary mean field analysis regardless of the dimensionality. However, as Monte Carlo simulations show, no such a phase exists in 3D crystals. Instead, …

Combating climate change has emerged as a global concern recently, and meteorological data remain an important measure for analyzing and predicting climate trends. However, ground weather stations and sensors can be impacted by faults due to accidents and unreliability, often resulting in, for example, missing data and lowering the overall quality of the data. This paper explores the impact of using satellite data as an input feature for machine learning algorithms. In today's media landscape, where consumers are overloaded with information and have shorter attention spans, digital marketers face significant difficulty in grabbing and holding customers' attention. This research examines how visual attention affects the processing of advertising stimuli. It does this by using eye-tracking technology to determine where branding components should be placed in digital ads to maximize processing efficiency and perceptual salience. The research shows that placing branding features strategically in the top central part of the advertisement can greatly increase visual attention and subsequent recall by analyzing fixation patterns and saccadic behavior. The ideal aeronautical solid-state fuel should possess a high density (more thrust per Newton’s Third Law), high gravimetric heat of combustion (more energy for less weight), and a high volumetric heat of combustion (more room for mission-critical items). In this work, manganese diboride (MnB2) demonstrates a high density of 5.3 g/cm3, a high gravimetric heat of combustion of 38.30 kJ/g, and the highest volumetric heat of combustion of any known fuel of 202.99 kJ /cm3. When compared to the currently used fuel in Space Shuttle rocket boosters and the Space Launch System, aluminum metal, MnB2 represents a 100% increase in …

Pesticide applications may soon be regulated by laws predicated on the presupposition that reducing tillage, and thereby increasing soil surface crop residue cover, decreases sorbed and soluble agrochemical losses in surface runoff and erosion. This analysis was conducted to determine whether pesticide transport via surface runoff and erosion could be manipulated by tillage practices. Estimates of the amounts of crop residue cover within each tillage practice were averaged from data reported in the original articles. Response ratios of the paired means of runoff, erosion, and pesticide losses and concentrations from the effects of tillage practices were meta-analyzed as paired t-tests …

Aerosol particles play a pivotal role in shaping clouds, precipitation, and climate. However, it still remains one of the significant uncertainties in climate change. While most aerosols are activated at the cloud base, the aerosol particles entrained from the cloud top or edges can also contribute to droplet formation above the base. This process might significantly impact cloud properties and lifetimes.

In this study, we investigate how entraining aerosol-laden air affects cloud microphysics by adding aerosol particles to the dry-air inflow in the Pi chamber experiments. The findings show that the cloud droplet number concentration and liquid water content increase …

This report focuses on seven water quality measurements taken at 43 different depths on the Bear Lake for the months of June - November in the years 2018 - 2023. These measurements create a high-dimensional dataset on which we apply state-of-the-art machine learning (ML) techniques to look for low-dimensional structure in the data. A similar effort was made for weather measurements taken near the lake. Our analysis revealed that water quality measurements tend to cluster (i.e., group together) by year, while weather measurements tend to cluster by time of the year.
