Characterizations Of Bimetallic Silver-Copper Nanoparticles, Omar Lezcano
Characterizations Of Bimetallic Silver-Copper Nanoparticles, Omar Lezcano
Undergraduate Honors Theses
The goal of this study was to characterize alloy nanoparticles with different bimetallic ratios of silver (Ag) and copper (Cu) by determining the composition and alloy structures. One specific objective was to determine how the composition affects the electrical properties of the nanoparticles in terms of electrical resistance and nanoparticle sintering. The desire for this study stems from the need to make conductive pastes for low-cost solar panel manufacturing. We performed experiments to develop the aqueous synthesis of core-shell bimetallic nanoparticles.
We investigated the room temperature sintering properties with the nanoparticles of varying compositions. The nanoparticles were characterized with several …

Freshwater mussels in western North America are threatened by water diversions, climate change, loss of required host fish, and other factors, and have experienced marked decline in the past several decades. All four of the primary lineages (potentially species) of freshwater mussels in the western U.S. and Canada are widespread and have somewhat generalist host fish requirements. Of these lineages, perhaps the most poorly understood and of greatest conservation concern is Gonidea angulata (Rocky Mountain ridged mussel). Gonidea is a monotypic genus occurring only in the western continental U.S. and southern Canada. Here we describe the patterns of genetic variation …

Tdim Ionospheric Model Tec, Hmf2, And Nmf2 At Mid-Latitude Northern Hemisphere, Used In The Paper Titled "Is Tec A Viable Servo Input?", Jan J. Sojka
Browse all Datasets
The externally imposed vertical drift in the F region is an extremely important driver of ionospheric dynamics but is very difficult to measure or map. Ionospheric servo algorithms have used hmF2 as F-region observable to infer the vertical drift. However, an even more plentiful observable is the total electron content (TEC) whose coverage over northern mid-latitudes has both spatial and temporal availability that matches those of the probable mechanisms responsible for vertical drift dynamics.
This ionospheric, first principle physics, study shows that TEC is a viable servo parameter at mid-latitudes in the noon sector. The servo relationship is shown to …

Central Asian Problems of Modern Science and Education
This paper shows the application of Cauchy inequality to some complex geometric and algebraic problems. Proof of Cauchy inequality is presented in several ways. Furthermore, the generalized Koshi inequality is fully proven.

Massachusetts Beach Grain Size And Slope Data, Jonathan Woodruff, Nicholas Venti, Stephen Mabee, Alycia Ditroia, Douglas Beach
Data and Datasets
This data repository contains grain size and beach face slope data from approximately 100 paired summer and winter transects collected along 18 separate beaches in southern New England. The study is focused to beaches of Massachusetts, which represents a particularly unique section of the Northeastern US coast in that it: 1) lies at the interface between New England’s paraglacial lowlands and Mid-Atlantic Coastal Plain, 2) spans both micro- and meso- tidal regimes, 3) encompasses a wide range of seasonally varying wave conditions, and 4) contains a diverse array of geomorphic and grain size characteristics. Between 2 and 10 intertidal transects …

The data is based on semi-structured household interviews conducted in Noatak (n = 12), Noorvik (n = 11), and Brevig Mission (n = 12) in the March of 2017. Information gathered consists of individuals use of technology, perceptions about how technology has helped or hindered their ability to do subsistence and address the changing climate, and the role of technology in the community. Demographic information includes gender, race, education, household size, and employment status. Individuals who were particularly knowledgeable and amendable participated in a q-sort exercise to assess values and beliefs regarding technology in their community. Changes In Water Vapor Adsorption And Water Film Thickness In Clayey Materials As A Function Of Relative Humidity, Qinhong Hu
Earth & Environmental Sciences Datasets
Soil water, with adsorbed water being an important component, plays an important role in fluid flow and chemical movement in the unsaturated zone. The adsorbed water consists of water film and interlayer water, and its content is related to the relative humidity (RH). This study theoretically and experimentally focuses on the variation in adsorbed water content in clayey materials as the RH changes. Based on a slit-pore model, three types of water (water film, interlayer water, and capillary water) could be present in the water vapor adsorption process. The variation of water film is obtained from the analysis of interfacial …

Machine Learning (ML), including Deep Learning (DL), systems, i.e., those with ML capabilities, are pervasive in today's data-driven society. Such systems are complex; they are comprised of ML models and many subsystems that support learning processes. As with other complex systems, ML systems are prone to classic technical debt issues, especially when such systems are long-lived, but they also exhibit debt specific to these systems. Unfortunately, there is a gap of knowledge in how ML systems actually evolve and are maintained. In this paper, we fill this gap by studying refactorings, i.e., source-to-source semantics-preserving program transformations, performed in real-world, open-source …

As the atmosphere warms, precipitation events become larger, but less frequent. Yet, there is fundamental disagreement about how increased precipitation intensity will affect vegetation. Walter’s two-layer hypothesis and experiments testing it have demonstrated that precipitation intensity can increase woody plant growth. Observational studies have found the opposite pattern. Not only are the patterns contradictory, but inference is largely limited to grasslands and savannas. We tested the effects of increased precipitation intensity in a shrub-steppe ecosystem that receives >30% of its precipitation as snow. We used 11 (8 m x 8 m) shelters to collect and redeposit rain and snow as …
