Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Every year, tuberculosis affects the lungs of millions of people and rifampicin is the commonly used medicine for its treatment due to its antibiotic nature. The frequent use of rifampicin may lead to its increased concentration in the water resources. This research work is focused on the cloud point extraction (CPE) procedure for the preconcentration of rifampicin prior to its determination in water. The UV/vis spectrophotometric method was adapted for the measurement of rifampicin content after the phase separation. Triton-X 100 was used as the nonionic surfactant which contains hydrophilic polyethylene chain feasible for the extraction of analyte. Various analytical …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

A series of thin Pt-Co films with different metal ratios were deposited by using the sequential cosputtering directly on a commercial hydrophobic carbon paper substrate at room temperature and in ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions. Their electrocatalytic properties toward the oxygen reduction reaction were investigated in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution by means of cyclic voltammetry (CV) and linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) on rotating disc electrode (RDE). The results showed that Pt particles, deposited by dc-magnetron gun, surround the large Co-clusters deposited by rf-magnetron gun. In addition, the increase of Co content led to an increase in the electrochemical active surface area …

Sn(Ii)/Pn@Ac Catalysts: Synthesis, Physical-Chemical Characterization, And Applications, Yibo Wu, Fuxiang Li, Qingbin Li, Yongjun Han, Li Wang, Wei Ma, Fu Xv

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, the novel tin-based catalysts (Sn(II)/PN@AC) were prepared using the phosphorus and nitrogen dual-modified activated carbon as support and SnCl2 as active compounds, as well as then evaluated in acetylene hydrochlorination. Under the reaction temperature of 180 °C and an acetylene gas hourly space velocity (GHSV-C2H2) of 30 h?1, the 15%Sn(II)/PN@AC-550 showed the initial acetylene conversion of 100% and vinyl chloride selectivity over 98.5%. Additionally, the deactivation rate of 15%Sn(II)/PN@AC-550 reached 0.47% h-1, which was lower than that of 15%Sn(II)/AC-550 (1.02% h-1), suggesting that PN@AC-550 as novel support can retarded the deactivation of Sn(II)/AC-550 catalysts during acetylene hydrochlorination. …

XPS studies proved the presence of metallic Pt0 on the AC surface. The graphitization degree of Pt loaded ACs were increased with the loaded Pt0 amount. The electrochemical performance of the Pt-loaded ACs (Pt@AC) was determined not only by the conventional three-electrode system but also by packaged supercapacitors in CR2032 casings. The capacitive performance of Pt@AC …

Antiinflammatory Photodynamic Therapy Potential Of Polyoxyethylene-Substituted Perylene Diimide, Nitrocatechol, And Azo Dye, Özgül Hakli, Kasim Ocakoğlu, Furkan Ayaz

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) applications enable light-controlled activation of drug candidates instead of their constitutive activities to prevent undesired side effects associated with their constant activities. A specific wavelength of light is utilized to enable electron mobility in the chemical structure, which results in differential activities that may alter cell viability and cellular functions. Canonical photodynamic therapy applications mostly focus on cytotoxicity-based antimicrobial and anticancer properties of the PDT agents. In this study, we focused on subtoxic concentrations of three different molecules containing polyoxyethylene group and examined their antiinflammatory activities on stimulated mammalian macrophages. Stimulated macrophages produce proinflammatory cytokines TNF and …

The gels were prepared by reacting ferric nitrates (as oxidants) with starch (as fuel) at an elevated temperature of 200 °C. Different ratios (Φ) of ferric nitrates to starch were used for the synthesis (Φ = fuel/oxidant). The synthesized iron oxides were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Brunauer-Emmet-Teller (BET) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) analysis techniques. The crystal structure, morphology, and specific surface area of the iron oxide nanoparticles (Fe3O4 …

A Fluorescent Sensor-Based Tripodal-Bodipy For Cu (Ii) Ions: Bio-Imaging On Cells, Ahmed Nuri̇ Kurşunlu, Mustafa Özmen, Ersi̇n Güler

A general synthetic method was improved to synthesize a chemosensor based on a tripodal Bodipy (t-BODIPY) structure. The product and its intermediate products were successfully prepared and fully characterized. The metal ion sensing performance of the tripodal compound was evaluated by UV/Vis and fluorescence spectroscopies. According to the obtained data, t-BODIPY is a selective and sensitive fluorescence probe for detection of Cu2+ ions in the presence and in the absence of competing ions. This chemosensor presents relatively a low detection limit of 5.4 x10-7 M for Cu2+. Bio-imaging studies on living yeast cells suggest that t-BODIPY has some advantages over …

Synthesis Of Imidazo-1,4-Oxazinone Derivatives And Investigation Of Reaction Mechanism, Volkan Taşdemi̇r

Turkish Journal of Chemistry

In this study, nine different C-2 aroyl imidazole derivatives were synthesized in a one pot reaction with two steps, and the reduction reactions of these derivatives with NaBH4 were carried out under mild conditions. Substitution reaction of obtained imidazo methanol derivatives with chloroacetylchloride reagent and ring reaction of substitution products were investigated. It was determined that 1,4-imidazoxazinone derivative was obtained as a result of the cyclization reaction. The intermediate products obtained during the cyclization reaction were isolated, and the path of the reaction under different conditions was discussed.
