In this study, blood samples collected from dromedary camels in the Algerian provinces of Laghouat and Ghardaia, which were kept in the same pastures and in the same herds with sheep and goats, were examined to detect antibodies to the Bluetongue (BT) and Akabane (AKA) viruses using enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and serum neutralization tests, respectively. Overall, 16 (14.4%) and 2 (1.8%) of 111 tested camel serum samples were seropositive for the BT virus (BTV) and the AKA virus (AKAV), respectively. The aim of this study is to define the genotyping relationship between 31 Salmonella enterica subspecies enterica serovar Infantis (S. Infantis) strains, which were the most isolated and identified causes of food poisoning between 2013 and 2017 in Turkey. These isolated strains were studied with the DiversiLab System (repetitive sequence-based PCR; rep-PCR; bioMerieux, France) and traditional serotyping for the identification of S. The objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term outcomes in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament injury in which the stifle was stabilized with lateral suture stabilization, lateral suture stabilization-modified, or Securos lateral bone anchor tibial suture and monofilament nylon sutures placed at quasi-isometric points of the stifle. It is a retrospective study comprising a sample population of 49 client-owned dogs. Oocyte Recovery And In Vitro Embryo Production In Cows Treated With A Single Dose Offollicle-Stimulating Hormone, Thiago Marquez Fernandes, Paulo Roberto Adona, Samuel Guemra, Tiago Henrique Camara De Bem, Moyses Dos Santos Miranda

Cows were treated with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) in a single dose and then subjected to ovum pick-up (OPU) for evaluation of oocyte recovery and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Cows underwent OPU followed by application of FSH (200 mg) on day 2 and new OPU on day 3. This methodology was repeated 3 times sequentially. In FSH-free the cows (control), OPU was performed at intervals of one week. The number of oocytes recovered was higher in the control cows (22.2 ± 1.5) compared to the treated cows (16.9 ± 1.4; P < 0.05). The purpose of this study was to highlight the effects of natural plant essential oils (EOs) on sous-vide sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) fillets. Three different treatments were prepared by addition of: 1) no essential oil (C), 2) laurel (Laurus nobilis) EO (L), and 3) basil (Ocimum basilicum) EO (B). In general, incorporation of the EOs did not cause significant changes in the proximate composition (P > 0.05). The addition of L caused a darker and more greenish-yellow colour, while addition of B did not have a considerable alteration in colour parameters. A male mixed breed street dog (age unknown) presented with an ocular mass and multiple ulcerated subcutaneous nodules on both hind limbs which bled easily when touched. Inspection of the genital organs revealed that no masses were present. The ocular mass and nodules were diagnosed as a transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) by fine-needle aspiration cytology. The total remission of the tumor was achieved after 5 applications of vincristine sulfate. Despite extensive research on the reproductive health of domestic animals, embryonic mortality continues to be a problem that brings about significant losses for both commercial breeding and scientific research. This review paper discusses the genetic and environmental factors that affect embryo mortality rates in sheep along with the different techniques developed to overcome this issue. This study aimed to demonstrate the expression profiles of lincRNAs and mRNAs affecting milk yield and composition traits in the milk-derived exosomes of Holstein and Doğu Anadolu Kırmızısı (DAK) cows. For this purpose, the locations of these specific lincRNAs and mRNAs were confirmed in quantitative trait loci. Then RT-PCR analysis was performed to identify the expression profiles of the lincRNAs and mRNAs. We included 39 female Wistar albino rats weighing 200-250 g and created an M. canis-infected area on the skin of their backs. The rats were clinically scored on days 0, 7, 14, 21, and 28 and underwent histopathological evaluation. All the treated groups demonstrated significantly lower clinical scores than the control group (P < 0.05). Fewer inflammation cells were observed in the samples of groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel than in those of the control group. According to the histopathological evaluation, the groups treated with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate gel were statistically different from the control and other treatment groups (P < 0.05). Our results indicated that treatment with 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate gel was adequate in resolving M. canis -induced infection in rats. Therefore, gels containing 3% boric acid and sodium pentaborate pentahydrate may be alternatives to antifungal agents such as terbinafine by ensuring easy, reliable, inexpensive, and effective treatment modalities.

Estimation Of Genetic Parameters For Weaning Weight Of Awassi Lambs By Using Classical And Bayesian Methods, Adi̇le Tatliyer, Si̇nan Baş

The aim of this study was to estimate variance components and genetic parameters with six different animal models and two approaches (Bayesian and classical) on weaning weight (WW) of Awassi lambs. For this purpose, the data were obtained from Sheep and Goat Breeders' Associations of Osmaniye in Turkey. The data of 4971 progenies (from 80 rams and 1917 ewes) born between 2012 and 2016 raised under traditional conditions were evaluated. Year/season, sex, birth type, dam age, and flock size were fixed effects. All these effects except birth type were found statistically significant (P < 0.01). The overall least squares mean of weaning weight (WW) was obtained as 17.93 ± 0.05 kg. Variance components and genetic parameters were estimated by MCMC algorithms with R (for Bayesian approach) and by REML procedure with MTDFREML (for classical approach) programs. The Akaike information criterion (AIC), the log likelihood function (-2logL), and deviance information criterion (DIC) values were taken as criteria to choose the best model. Direct heritabilities of WW ranged from 0.20 to 0.35 across the models. The genetic correlation between additive genetic effect and maternal effect ranged from 0.00 to 1.00. The results were found similar across methodologies and maternal additive genetic variance resulted in lower than direct additive genetic variance. According to this study, both approaches are suitable for estimation of genetic parameters in the case of low sample size. However, the Bayesian approach, becoming increasingly popular, may be feasible to estimate variancecovariance components and genetic parameters.
