Histological And Morphometric Features Of The Skin Of Native And Hybrid (F_1) Sheep, Nesri̇n Özfi̇li̇z, Mi̇ne Balikçier, Hati̇ce Erdost, Berri̇n Zik

It was found that the histological features of all native and hybrid sheep skins used in this study were similar to those well documented previously. The total skin thickness was determined to be thickest for Hampshire X Kıvırcık (F_1) (3507.2 \mu), and thinnest for Kıvırcık (2897.8 \mu). It was observed that the stratum corneum of the skin of Kıvırcık and Kıvırcık hybrids was thicker than that of Karacabey Merino and their hybrids. This experiment was conducted to determine the effects of night feeding benefiting from temperature differences between night and day in SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) white leghorn egg layers under heat stress. For this purpose, 100 SPF hens were randomly assigned to two groups. The control group was fed between 5^{00} and 21^{00} and the treatment group was fed between 17^{00} and 09^{00}. House temperature was averaged at 29.5±0.78°C and 22.9 ± 0.72°C in the control and treatment groups, respectively. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of short-term storage on hatching performance and the length of the incubation period of broiler breeder eggs. A total 3600 eggs from a 42-week-old commercial broiler breeder flock were stored for 0 hours, 6 hours, 3 days or 7 days and then placed in the same incubator. The fertility, embryonic mortality, hatchability of fertile eggs and malpositions were determined. This study was carried out to estimate the heritabilities and the genetic and phenotypic correlations between some milk production traits in Holstein cows in Ceylanpınar State Farm. A mixed-model equation was used in the study. The heritabilities and the genetic correlations were estimated by the Restricted Maximum Likelihood method (REML) for all the variables. Phenotypic correlations were estimated from measurements of the traits. Paternal half-sib correlations were used for the estimation of the heritability values. The levels of adenosine deaminase in different periods of pregnancy and after parturition were investigated in 13 ewes. Blood samples were collected on the day of mating and on days 10, 21, 35, 75, 104, 144 of pregnancy and on day 10 after parturition. Sera were harvested from these samples and adenosine deaminase levels were assayed as IU/L. Adenosine deaminase levels were high on the day of mating and after parturition but decreased during pregnancy. The lowest level was assayed just before parturition. The aim of this study was to determine the normal electrocardiographic and vectorcardiographic values of healthy Karabash dogs, a breed unique to Turkey, in order to provide information for other interested researchers. A total of 50 healthy Karabash dogs, ranging in age from 1 month to 10 years, and 5-40 in kg weight and of which 19 were female and 31 were male constituted the study material. In this study, the population variability in chromosome numbers of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) cultured in 10 farms in the Northeast Black Sea Region of Turkey is examined. From the analysis of 468 anterior kidney tissue cells from 118 specimens, 7 distinct diploid numbers, namely 2n=58, 2n=59, 2n=60, 2n=61, 2n=62, 2n=63 and 2n=64, were found. The most frequent karyotypes with proportions of 25.2% and 24.8% were 2n=60 and 2n=62 respectively. Extensive Robertsonian polymorphisms were determined. In this study, the growth and enterotoxin production abilities of enterotoxigenic S. aureus strains in cream pastries were investigated. The cream was inoculated with enterotoxigenic S. aureus strains, which produce A (SEA 10652 FDA 196E), B (SEB 10654 FDA 243), C (SEC 10655 137) and D (SED 10656 494) type toxins as mixtures at 103, 104 and 105 cfu/g levels. In this study, the changes in pyruvate kinase enzyme activities in the liver and kidney tissues of rats with diabetes induced by streptozotocin were examined and the relations with the disease were investigated. Diabetes mellitus was induced in Wistar-Albino rats by the administration of a single intraperitoneal dose of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg body weight). In this study, a total of 300 packaged ice-creams (100 extrude, 100 stick and 100 cornet type) were taken from an industrial ice-cream plant and analysed microbiologically. The hygienic conditions of the same plant were also investigated. In terms of microbiological quality, no significant differences were determined among the ice-cream types. Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli were not isolated in any of ice-cream samples. Leishmaniasis is a worldwide, parasitic disease found in the Mediteranean area, Africa, Asia and Central and South America that affects mainly dogs, humans, and rodents. Dogs are the domestic reservoirs of the visceral form so that early detection of canine infections including complex clinical features may be important in the control of lehismaniasis. This study was conducted to determine the effects of different cage densities on laying performance of white and brown hybrid layers during high summer temperatures. White layers, 68 weeks of age, were housed at a density of 3, 4 or 5 hens/cage (respectively 640, 480 and 384 cm^2/hen); brown layers were housed at 3 or 4 hens/cage (respectively 640 and 480 cm^2/hen). The results indicated that housing at 3 or 4 hens/cage did not affect egg production or egg quality significantly. In this study, whole blood potassium and haemoglobin (Hb) polymorphism were investigated in the Hair goats raised in the Antalya province. The separation of erythrocyte haemoglobin types was carried out using horizontal starch-gel electrophoresis and the determination of the potassium level was done using an atomic absorption spectrometer in randomly chosen whole blood samples of 188 Hair goats. The gene frequency for the higher potassium (KH) was 0.985±0.038. As a result of this research, two haemoglobin gene alleles (HbA, HbB) were determined. The objective of this experiment was to evaluate ensiling methods for more efficient and long-lasting preservation of sugar beet pulp, which is an energy-rich cheap feedstuff. For this reason, during ensiling the dry matter of sugar beet pulp was increased to 20% by adding wheat straw or grass hay. The microbiological and chemical qualities of kurut, which is made from dried yoghurt with solar heat in some rural regions of Anatolia, were studied. For this aim 25 kurut samples from the Elazığ area were investigated. Colony forming units of mesophile aerobes, coliform, Staphylococcus-Micrococcus, Lactobacillus-Leuconostoc-Pediococcus, Lactococcus, yeast and mould on average were 3.40x104/g, 2.79 x 102/g, 2.40 x 103/g, 2.23 x 104/g, 1.13 x 104/g and 1.12 x 104/g respectively. In this study, forty 2-2.5 months pregnant sheep naturally infected with gastrointestinal nematodes and lungworms were used. These sheep were divided into two equal groups according to the epgs per gram (EPG) present in the faeces and were kept indoors. This study was carried out to detect the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in cattle in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Serum samples obtained from 98 cattle of different regions and age groups were tested for T.gondii antibodies by the Sabin-Feldman and Indirect Flourescent Antibody tests. According to the results of the SF test, 34 animals (34.69%), and according to the results of the IFA test 30 (30.61%) animals were found to be seropositive. Statistical evaluations showed that the results of the two tests were in agreement with each other.

Changes in \alpha-amylase activity of the pancreas, plasma, crop tissue and crop content related to age and sex were determined in chicks and the correlation among the pancreas, plasma, crop tissue and crop content were investigated. A total of 336 ISA- 5 broiler hybrid chicks were used as material. The chicks were separated into two groups: 224 males and 112 females.
