Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
Arginase (L-arginine amidino hydrolase E.C. 3.5.3.1) is an enzyme catalyzing the last stage of the Krebs-Henseleit cycle and, thus, converting arginine into urea and ornithine. Arginase also plays a part in protein and polyamine synthesis and is affected by hormones in terms of metabolic status. In the present study, erythrocyte, saliva, and serum arginase activity together with serum urea and estrogen levels were examined in Akkaraman and Ivesi sheep in pregnancy and postpartum. Comparisons were then made between the species. In pregnancy the urea level in saliva increased. However, the urea level in serum decreased. No clear difference was observed …

The Utilization Of Carp (Cyprinus Carpio) Flesh As Fish Ball, Yasemen Yanar, Hasan Fenerci̇oğlu
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, the sensory properties and shelf life of fish balls prepared from carp flesh were investigated. Four study groups were prepared with different combinations of ingredients: garlic, garlic-sunflower oil, onion and onion-sunflower oil. A control group was also prepared. At the end of the sensory evaluation, the groups received between 7.4 and 9.07 points from the panelists regarding appearance, texture, succulence, odour and flavour and general acceptance. The onion and garlic groups were found to be preferable to the control group (p0.05). Vacuum-packed minced fish meat stored at -18°C for 6 months was of good quality in terms …

The Effects Of Egg Weight And Storage Time On Egg Weight Loss And Hatchability Traits Injapanese Quail, S. Kudret Saylam
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
This study examined the effects of egg weight and storage time on egg weight loss and hatchability traits. Egg were stored for 1, 3, 5. 7. 9 and 11 days, and collected into 3 egg weight groups (light, medium and heavier). Storage room temperature was 18-20°C and relative humidity was 55-58%. Eggs were weighted individually at laying, before placing into hatching, on days 5, 10, 14 and 18 of the hatching period to determine egg weight loss. Fertility and hatchability values decreased with the storage time. Higher fertility and less hatching were observed in heavier egg weight group. There was …

One hundred and sixty-seven naturally mated queens were captured from the Aegean region in autumn. The queens were individually in cages at 28-30°C and 50-60 % R.H. in the dark. Every 2-3 days, sugar solution (50 %) and pollen paste were supplied and 4-5 young honeybees were added to the cages. When the first bumble bee workers emerged, the colony was transferred to a large ventilated box with two compartments. During the trial the nest foundation rate, …

Proteolitic Enzyme Activities In Some Fishery Products(Catepsin D And Casein Test), Şükran Çakli
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
In this study, proteolitic enzym activities searched on fillets and organs of brined and salted ringa ( Clupea harengus ), frozen Sebastes marinus and fresh cod ( Gadus morrhua ) with using Catepsin D (mg Tyrosin/L -1 ) and Casein (unit/mg) tests. At the end of the study proteolytic enzym activity determined with using Catepsin D on studied fishs, was higher than the proteolitic enzym activity determined with using Casein test. It was determined higher activity in organs (especially intestine and pyloric caeca) than the fillets. Because of this reason, after fishing as soon as organs and blood must remove …

The animal material of the research was 3, 4 and 5 years old 210 Merino ewes and their lambs. The research was started at the beginning of the last 1.5 months period of gestation and continued until the lambs were reached 60 days age. It has been determined that 500 g and more (especially 1500 g) concentrate feed given fed ewes daily at the last 1.5 months period of gestation increased the liveweight and decreased the weight loss of ewes and increased birth weight, growth and survival rates of lambs.

Having partial purification of Carbonic anhydrase from gill and liver of Van Lake fish by ethanol-chloroform and acetone-chloroform, the esterase activity was performed by using p-nitrophenyl acetate as a substrate on spectrophotometer. The effects of the some kinetic parameters (km, Vo, Vmax, Na_2CO_3 activation, optimum pH etc.) have been examined When Lineweaver-Burk diagram of liver extracts (at 25°C) is examined, ethanol has an apparent competitive inhibition compare to acetone extracts. So Km of the substrate (p-nitrophenyl acetate) is 0.95 mM …
