This study evaluated the nutritional adequacy and digestibility of commercial dry dog foods formulated with different protein sources (animal versus plant) and market tiers (premium versus economy). Eight commercial dog foods were analyzed for nutrient composition and amino acid profiles using proximate analysis and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Of these, four representative products were selected to assess digestibility through in vivo total fecal collection in Beagle dogs and in vitro digestion assays. All products exceeded 18% crude protein (the minimum crude protein requirement by AAFCO). Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) causes severe watery diarrhea in pigs of all ages, but it is particularly devastating in neonatal piglets, where it can result in 100% mortality. Therefore, lactogenic immunity is crucial for protecting against PEDV infection and reducing its virulence. One method for controlling PEDV outbreaks involves using feedback as a protocol, which entails inoculating pregnant sows with infected-PEDV intestines from piglets to enhance lactogenic immunity against PEDV. Juvenile Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) with an average body weight of 10 ± 0.7 g were used to investigate the efficacy of an inactivated Streptococcus iniae vaccine and the probiotic Bacillus subtilis. Fish were intraperitoneally vaccinated with 1012 CFU fish−1 of formalin-killed S. iniae (V) or sham vaccinated (S) with sterile normal saline solution (NSS). Both groups were fed with Bacillus probiotic (5 × 109 CFU kg-1 diet) for 6 weeks. This study investigates the impact of behavioral patterns during the transition and early postpartum periods on reproductive and lactation outcomes in tropical dairy cows, using the AfiTag-II biosensor to monitor activity, rest time, rest per bout, and restlessness ratio. Data from 298 prepartum and 347 postpartum Holstein Friesian cows, categorized by lactation number (1, 2, and ≥3), was analyzed. K-means clustering on 227 lactation records identified distinct behavioral groups, facilitating the assessment of reproductive traits through Cox regression and lactation curves using the Wood model. Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), known as dry eye syndrome, indicates an imbalance in tear film stability and homeostasis. Quantitative KCS is well diagnosed while qualitative KCS is still underdiagnosed in routine veterinary practice. This study aimed to compare the ocular surface characteristics between experimental dogs (n=20) presented with low Schirmer tear test (STT) values (1-10mm/min) and control dogs (n=20) with normal STT values (≥15mm/min). Red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) is a prominent freshwater fish in Thai aquaculture. It has long been afflicted by severe bacterial diseases, ulcerative syndrome, and hemorrhagic septicemia, primarily caused by Aeromonas veronii. Vaccination is a key strategy for control and prevention. In this study a chitosan nano-immersion vaccine has been developed using a nanoemulsion technique and surface modification method with chitosan polymers. The physicochemical properties, mucoadhesive properties, immune response assays, and vaccine efficacy were investigated. This study aimed to investigate the contamination of third-generation cephalosporin (3GC)-resistant Escherichia coli, Salmonella spp., Enterococcus faecalis, and E. faecium in commercial raw meat-based diets (RMBDs) for cats and dogs in Thailand. Fifty RMBD products from ten brands were included for total plate count and bacterial isolation. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was conducted for the targeted bacteria. Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) production and the presence of blaCTX-M and mcr genes were detected. Additionally, E. coli phylogroups and Salmonella serovars were identified. A new clinical chemistry analyzer using surface plasmon field-enhanced fluorescence spectroscopy (SPFS) has been introduced into veterinary diagnostic laboratories as a point-of-care unit, enabling rapid turnaround times for both diagnosis and follow-up. Consequently, the test results must be accurate, precise, and reliable. This research aims to evaluate the method performance of the analyzer. The evaluation was conducted according to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) guidelines using method validation. Influenza A viruses (IAVs) can infect birds and a wide variety of mammals. Live bird markets (LBMs) and free-grazing ducks (FGDs) are the important reservoirs of influenza A viruses in Thailand. This study aims to gain the overall information of IAVs circulated in LBMs in Bangkok and in FGD flocks in Thailand. IAVs surveillance in LBM in Bangkok was conducted to identified the IAVs in LBM during 2019-2020. The IAV-H9N2 (n=8) and IAV-H9Nx (n=2) were isolated from 1,178 swab samples. Canine astrovirus (CaAstV) and canine kobuvirus (CaKoV) are recently recognized pathogens associated with canine gastrointestinal disease (GID), though their exact role remains poorly understood. In both Vietnam and Thailand, these viruses were detected in dogs with and without diarrhea, particularly high frequency in puppies under 6 months old. Co-infection between CaAstV and CaKoV, as well as with other common canine enteric viruses (canine parvovirus, canine enteric coronavirus, canine distemper virus), were also confirmed. Overpopulation of companion animals, particularly dogs and cats, is a global concern, necessitating effective population control policies. This research investigates the attitudes of veterinarians and pet owners in Thailand regarding dog and cat surgical sterilization and the use of progestins as non-surgical contraception. The study also assesses the effects of intratesticular administration of alpha-mangostin encapsulated in nanostructured lipid carriers (AM-NLC) in male cats, and adverse effects. Furthermore, a novel formulation of AM-NLC for intratesticular administration is also developed. The importance and rationale of this thesis were to address the critical knowledge gap in equine endometrosis by developing a comprehensive 3-dimensional (3D) in vitro model of equine endometrial tissue using advanced technology like 3D bioprinting. Study 1 aimed to develop an in vitro model for studying equine endometrial function by isolating and characterizing equine endometrial epithelial cells (eECs) and endometrial mesenchymal stem cells (eMSCs) using a modified tissue explantation outgrowth technique. Both cell types were successfully cultured in specific medium conditions, maintaining their characteristic features. African horse sickness (AHS) results from infection with the African horse sickness virus (AHSV). The AHSV is a non-contagious and belongs to genus Orbivirus, family Reoviridae and primarily by Culicoides midges. AHS caused the devastating infection in equine population, including horses, ponies, European donkeys, and mules. AHS maintains its occurrence in southern African countries, it may possess threatening impact to the naïve regions such as Asia or Southeast Asia. Vector-borne diseases (VBDs) have been recognized as important diseases in humans and animals across the globe. Blood-sucking insects, such as mosquitoes, tabanid flies, and stable flies may carry pathogens, transmit, and cause VBDs in hosts, including pigs. In Thailand, most of the pig farms have backyard system implying that pigs could be easily exposed to blood-sucking insects and lead to infection with vector-borne pathogens (hemoplasmas, Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV), and Trypanosoma (T.) evansi). This study was to explore bacterial communities and antimicrobial resistance in airborne dust from pig farms. Airborne dust, pig feces, and feed were collected from nine pig farms (n=9) in Thailand, including Nakhon Sawan, Chainat, Supan Buri, Lopburi, and Saraburi, during the rainy season from May to October 2022. The farms were selected based on the owners' willingness to participate in the study and the availability of veterinarians or animal health practitioners. This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of Clostridium butyricum supplementation on improvement of production performance and egg quality by stimulating the intestinal absorptive function and altering the cecal microbial composition. A total of 216 Hy-Line brown laying hens at 66 weeks of age were allocated randomly into 3 treatments with 6 replicates of 12 hens in a completely randomized design.
