Abstract

The use of a Time Out checklist for patient safety in non-operating room procedural areas is equally important for positive patient outcomes as in the operating room (OR). In this busy southwestern United States hospital, the procedural teams in the non-operating room areas were reported to not be fully engaged during the performance of the Time Out pre-procedural pause prior to gastroenterological (GI) procedures. This study was conducted to improve compliance with the scripted Time Out checklist and promote full engagement of the GI procedural team during the Time Out thus reducing risks of wrong site surgery. The rise in rates of opioid addiction among women of childbearing age, alongside the consistent rates of unintended pregnancy, has changed the landscape for the public health risks and outcomes of unintended pregnancies in the United States. Concurrently, uptake of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) remains low among all women, particularly those with substance use disorder. This project explores the perceived barriers to LARC among women enrolled in medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for opioid addiction. This study explored third-semester baccalaureate nursing students' perceptions of the value of using student-produced video as an approach for learning head-to-toe assessment, an essential clinical nursing skill taught in the classroom. METHOD:

Smoothened receptor (SMO) is a protein that in humans, is encoded by the SMO gene. A systemic mutation in its binding pocket helps predict the sensitivity of mutant proteins to different drugs. Known as a GPCR-like receptor, it is a component of the hedgehog signaling pathway; a pathway involved in body patterning and the regulation of adult stem cells. An uncontrolled or inappropriate activation of the Hedgehog pathway drives tumor progression in cancers and a number of birth defects. Qingke, the local name of hulless barley in the Tibetan Plateau, is a staple food for Tibetans. The availability of its reference genome sequences could be useful for studies on breeding and molecular evolution. Taking advantage of the third-generation sequencer (PacBio), we de novo assembled a 4.84-Gb genome sequence of qingke, cv. Zangqing320 and anchored a 4.59-Gb sequence to seven chromosomes. Of the 46,787 annotated 'high-confidence' genes, 31 564 were validated by RNA-sequencing data of 39 wild and cultivated barley genotypes with wide genetic diversity, and the results were also confirmed by nonredundant protein database from NCBI. Background:

Nursing programs continue to be challenged to increase recruitment and retention of ethnic minority nursing students to meet the needs of a diversifying population. Ethnic minority students face a cadre of barriers, one of which is the negative implications of their own identity. This article describes a qualitative study that explored the experiences of stereotype threat among a group of ethnic minority nursing students at a large urban university.

Method:

Semistructured, one-time in-depth interviews were conducted.

Result:

Three themes emerged: A Sense of Uncertainty About Abilities, Avoidance, and Vigilance for Signs of Failure.

Parental satisfaction with antibiotic stewardship has been investigated extensively in pediatric inpatient settings; however, there has been relatively little research in pediatric outpatient settings. In 2014 upper respiratory infections were the most common infections seen among the general population with children having an average of 3 to 8 viral respiratory illnesses per year and receiving 34.6% of all antibiotic prescriptions. Escalating antibiotic resistance and increased emphasis on patient/parental satisfaction necessitates the exploration of a method to improve antibiotic stewardship while maintaining parental satisfaction.
