INTRODUCTION: Penile prosthesis implantation (PPI) is a treatment option recommended in clinical guidelines for erectile dysfunction (ED). However, a limited number of urologists perform PPI procedures in the United States.
AIM: To quantify the number of insured men with ED in the United States and project the number of potential candidates for PPI in 2022.
METHODS: An Excel-based disease impact model was constructed using a top-down estimation approach. The starting US male population consisted of adult men from 2022 US Census data after exclusion of age-specific mortality rates from the National Vital Statistics Reports. Understanding imaging research experiences, challenges, and strategies for academic radiology departments during and after COVID-19 is critical to prepare for future disruptive events. We summarize key insights and programmatic initiatives at major academic hospitals across the world, based on literature review and meetings of the Radiological Society of North America Vice Chairs of Research (RSNA VCR) group. Through expert discussion and case studies, we provide suggested guidelines to maintain and grow radiology research in the postpandemic era.

Background Radiomics is the extraction of predefined mathematic features from medical images for the prediction of variables of clinical interest. While some studies report superlative accuracy of radiomic machine learning (ML) models, the published methodology is often incomplete, and the results are rarely validated in external testing data sets. Purpose To characterize the type, prevalence, and statistical impact of methodologic errors present in radiomic ML studies. Materials and Methods Radiomic ML publications were reviewed for the presence of performance-inflating methodologic flaws. PURPOSE: To implement physics-based regularization as a stopping condition in tuning an untrained deep neural network for reconstructing MR images from accelerated data.
METHODS: The ConvDecoder (CD) neural network was trained with a physics-based regularization term incorporating the spoiled gradient echo equation that describes variable-flip angle data. Fully-sampled variable-flip angle k-space data were retrospectively accelerated by factors of R = {8, 12, 18, 36} and reconstructed with CD, CD with the proposed regularization (CD + r), locally low-rank (LR) reconstruction, and compressed sensing with L1-wavelet regularization (L1). Radiotherapy for pediatric brain tumors is associated with reduced white matter structural integrity and neurocognitive decline. Superior cognitive outcomes have been reported following proton radiotherapy (PRT) compared to photon radiotherapy (XRT), presumably due to improved sparing of normal brain tissue. Exploring austere environments required a reimagining of resource acquisition and utilization. Cyanobacterial in situ resources utilization (ISRU) and biological life support system (BLSS) bioreactors have been proposed to allow crewed space missions to extend beyond the temporal boundaries that current vehicle mass capacities allow. Many cyanobacteria and other microscopic organisms evolved during a period of Earth's history that was marked by very harsh conditions, requiring robust biochemical systems to ensure survival. Some species work wonderfully in a bioweathering capacity (siderophilic), and others are widely used for their nutritional power (non-siderophilic). PURPOSE: Programmed death-1 immune checkpoint blockade improves survival of patients with recurrent/metastatic head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), but the benefits of addition to (chemo)radiation for newly diagnosed patients with HNSCC remain unknown.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: We evaluated the safety of nivolumab concomitant with 70 Gy intensity modulated radiation therapy and weekly cisplatin (arm 1), every 3-week cisplatin (arm 2), cetuximab (arm 3), or alone for platinum-ineligible patients (arm 4) in newly diagnosed intermediate- or high-risk locoregionally advanced HNSCC. OBJECTIVES: Imaging appearances of immune checkpoint inhibitor-related nephritis have not yet been described. The primary objective of this study is to describe the appearances of immunotherapy-related nephritis on computerized tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET). The secondary objectives are to investigate the association of radiologic features with clinical outcomes.
METHODS: CT and PET-CT scans before the initiation of immunotherapy (baseline), at nephritis, and after resolution of pathology-proven nephritis cases were reviewed. Total kidney volume, renal parenchymal SUVmax, renal pelvis SUVmax, and blood pool SUVmean were obtained.

INTRODUCTION: Vidutolimod, a CpG-A TLR9 agonist, was investigated in a phase 1b study (CMP-001-003; ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03438318) in combination with atezolizumab with and without radiation therapy (RT) in patients with advanced NSCLC.
METHODS: Patients with progressive disease after anti-programmed cell death protein 1 or programmed death-ligand 1 therapy received either vidutolimod and atezolizumab (part A) or vidutolimod, atezolizumab, and RT (part B). The primary objective was to evaluate the safety of vidutolimod and atezolizumab with and without RT. Key secondary end point was best objective response rate per Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors, version 1.1.

PURPOSE: The immune system's role in mediating the cytotoxic effects of chemoradiotherapy remains not completely understood. The integration of immunotherapies into treatment will require insight into features and timing of the immune microenvironment associated with treatment response. Here, we investigated the role of circulating neutrophils and tumor-associated myeloid cells (TSAMs) as potential agents and biomarkers for disease-related outcomes in locally advanced cervical cancer (LACC).

PURPOSE: Carbon-fiber reinforced polyetheretherketone (CFRP)-based spinal implants are an alternative to titanium, offering less image artifact as their metallic counterparts while maintaining similar biomechanical and biocompatibility properties. Its use in the management of spinal tumors has been reported, however the perceived advantages related to improved imaging quality, radiation treatment planning, and detection of tumor recurrence have not been fully assessed.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of medical records amongst oncologic patients treated at MD Anderson Cancer Center with CFRP implants. Histology, tumor location, construct features, time of follow-up, adjuvant radiation, recurrences, overall survival, and hardware-related complications were recorded.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is increasing in incidence as more cross sectional imaging is performed with approximately 20%-30% of cases presenting with metastasis at the time of diagnosis. Small bowel metastatic disease is rare, with RCC to the small bowel being exceptionally rare. We present a case report of metastatic RCC that initially presented as upper gastrointestinal bleeding at time of diagnosis. We also provide a brief discussion of small bowel metastatic RCC disease and literature review.

Locoregional recurrence (LRR) is the predominant pattern of relapse and often the cause of death in patients with retroperitoneal sarcomas (RPS). As a result, reducing LRR is a critical objective for RPS patients. However, unlike soft tissue sarcomas (STS) of the superficial trunk and extremity where the benefits of radiation therapy (RT) are well-established, the role of RT in the retroperitoneum remains controversial. Historically, preoperative or postoperative RT, either alone or in combination with intraoperative radiation (IORT), was commonly justified for RPS based on extrapolation from the superficial trunk and extremity STS literature. Objective
The aim was to compare the speed, radiation exposure, needle adjustments, diagnostic efficacy, and complication rate using manual guidance and robotically assisted needle guidance via the PIGA computed tomography (CT) system for percutaneous lung biopsy.
Methods
A randomized interventional trial was conducted from September 2020 to March 2021 on 30 patients requiring lung biopsies for suspected malignancy. Random allocation of the 30 patients was done in group A (robot-assisted CT scan) and group B (conventional manual CT scan). INTRODUCTION: Mesenchymal Stromal/Stem cells (MSCs) are an essential component of the regenerative and immunoregulatory stem cell compartment of the human body and thus of major importance in human physiology. The MSCs elicit their beneficial properties through a multitude of complementary mechanisms, which makes it challenging to assess their phenotype and function in environmental toxicity screening. Humans operating in extreme environments often conduct their operations at the edges of the limits of human performance. Sometimes, they are required to push these limits to previously unattained levels. As a result, their margins for error in execution are much smaller than that found in the general public. These same small margins for error that impact execution may also impact risk, safety, health, and even survival. Thus, humans operating in extreme environments have a need for greater refinement in their preparation, training, fitness, and medical care. OBJECTIVE: The clinical grading system for varicoceles is subjective and dependent on clinician experience. Color Doppler ultrasound (US) has not been standardized in the diagnosis of varicoceles. We aimed to determine if US measurement of varicocele could be predictive of World Health Organization (WHO) varicocele grade.
METHODS: Men who presented for either scrotal pain or infertility to a tertiary men's health clinic underwent physical examination, and varicoceles were graded following WHO criteria (0=subclinical, 1, 2, 3). PURPOSE: Purpose: Radiation therapy (RT) and the antibody-drug conjugate brentuximab vedotin (BV) are standard-of-care treatment options for patients with certain B and T-cell lymphomas; however, there are limited data exploring the safety of concurrent BV and RT (BVRT).
METHODS AND MATERIALS: We performed a single institutional retrospective review of 44 patients who received BVRT.
RESULTS: Twenty percent of patients (9/44) developed new grade 2 or higher (G2+) hematologic toxicity (HT) after BVRT, which was associated with radiation dose (median dose of 35 Gy in those with new G2+ HT compared with 15 Gy in those without;

PURPOSE: This study aimed to use deep learning-based dose prediction to assess head and neck (HN) plan quality and identify suboptimal plans.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: A total of 245 volumetric modulated arc therapy HN plans were created using RapidPlan knowledge-based planning (KBP). A subset of 112 high-quality plans was selected under the supervision of an HN radiation oncologist. We trained a 3D Dense Dilated U-Net architecture to predict 3-dimensional dose distributions using 3-fold cross-validation on 90 plans. PURPOSE: Treatment planning for craniospinal irradiation (CSI) is complex and time-consuming, especially for resource-constrained centers. To alleviate demanding workflows, we successfully automated the pediatric CSI planning pipeline in previous work. In this work, we validated our CSI autosegmentation and autoplanning tool on a large dataset from St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
METHODS: Sixty-three CSI patient CT scans were involved in the study. Pre-planning scripts were used to automatically verify anatomical compatibility with the autoplanning tool. Spine is the most frequently involved site of osseous metastases. With improved disease-specific survival in patients with Stage IV cancer, durability of local disease control has become an important goal for treatment of spinal metastases. Herein, we review the multidisciplinary management of spine metastases, including conventional external beam radiation therapy, spine stereotactic radiosurgery, and minimally invasive and open surgical treatment options. We also present a simplified framework for management of spinal metastases used at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, focusing on the important decision points where the radiologist can contribute.

PURPOSE: Outside of randomized clinical trials, it is difficult to develop clinically relevant evidence-based recommendations for radiation therapy (RT) practice guidelines owing to lack of comprehensive real-world data. To address this knowledge gap, we formed the Learning from Analysis of Multicenter Big Data Aggregation consortium to cooperatively implement RT data standardization, develop software solutions for data analysis, and recommend clinical practice change based on real-world data analyzed. PURPOSE: To determine the dosimetric limitations of daily online adaptive pancreas stereotactic body radiation treatment by using an automated dose escalation approach.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: We collected 108 planning and daily computed tomography (CT) scans from 18 patients (18 patients × 6 CT scans) who received 5-fraction pancreas stereotactic body radiation treatment at MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dose metrics from the original non-dose-escalated clinical plan (non-DE), the dose-escalated plan created on the original planning CT (DE-ORI), and the dose-escalated plan created on daily adaptive radiation therapy CT (DE-ART) were analyzed. Although musculoskeletal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) plays a dominant role in characterizing abnormalities, novel computed tomography (CT) techniques have found an emerging niche in several scenarios such as trauma, gout, and the characterization of pathologic biomechanical states during motion and weight-bearing. Recent developments and advancements in the field of musculoskeletal CT include 4-dimensional, cone-beam (CB), and dual-energy (DE) CT. Four-dimensional CT has the potential to quantify biomechanical derangements of peripheral joints in different joint positions to diagnose and characterize patellofemoral instability, scapholunate ligamentous injuries, and syndesmotic injuries.
