This case report describes the unusual presentation of herpes zoster in a fully vaccinated teenage patient and highlights management considerations. The patient is a 19-year-old female who presented with pain in her left lower back, side, and upper thigh for approximately 3 days, which was then followed by the eruption of a vesicular rash along the L2 dermatome consistent with herpes zoster. Herpes zoster is predominantly observed only in elderly and immunocompromised individuals, primarily due to the widespread use of the varicella-zoster virus vaccine for children since 1995, when it became part of the routine immunization schedule. Infantile hemangiomas (IH), the most prevalent infantile tumor, are benign vascular tumors arising from proliferation and dysregulation of angiogenesis. Hemangiomas are present after birth and undergo 3 stages: proliferation, plateau, and involution. IH are further categorized into superficial, deep, and mixed based on skin and internal organ involvement. IH are clinically diagnosed, and treatment options include active observation, corticosteroids, beta-blockers, pingyangmycin, vincristine, or laser treatment. Complications of untreated IH include ulceration, airway obstruction, and visual obstruction at sites of enlarging lesions. Introduction

Leather has been a significant source of chromium (Cr) allergy in Denmark since the 1990s. More recently, cobalt (Co) allergy has been identified in leather as a source of allergic contact dermatitis.

Objectives

To measure Cr and Co levels in Danish leather goods.

Methods

A total of 87 leather samples were collected, all tanned in Europe. Handheld X-ray fluorescence (XRF) device was used to screen for the presence of Cr and Co. The 20 leather samples with the highest concentrations of Co and Co were tested using International Organization for Standardization (ISO)-standards.

The overall risk of developing DLBCL is increased in patients with other lymphomas, such as mycosis fungoides (MF). Background: Pemphigoid gestationis (PG) is an uncommon autoimmune vesiculobullous skin disorder associated with pregnancy, that occurs during mid-to-late pregnancy and immediate postpartum period. The diagnosis of PG is based on histopathology and direct immunofluorescence. Dermoscopy is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that provides a connection between macroscopic clinical dermatology and microscopic dermatopathology.

A Phase 3b, Open-Label, Single-Arm, Multicenter, Expanded-Access Study Of The Safety And Clinical Outcomes Of Stratagraft® Treatment In Adults With Deep Partial-Thickness Thermal Burns, James H. Background: A phase 3b, open-label, multicenter, expanded-access study (NCT04123548) evaluated safety and clinical outcomes of StrataGraft treatment in adults with deep partial-thickness thermal burns with intact dermal elements. Methods: Adult patients with 3 % to < 50 % total body surface area burns were treated with a single application of ≤ 1:1 meshed StrataGraft and followed for 24 weeks. Primary endpoint was count and percentage of patients with treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs). Secondary endpoints included confirmed wound closure (WC) at Week 12, durable WC at Week 24, time to WC, scar evaluation, and wound infection-related events. Results: Fifty-two patients with 96 treatment sites were enrolled. Pruritus was the most common TEAE (22 patients [42.3 %]). Twenty serious TEAEs occurred in 10 patients (19.2 %); none were related to StrataGraft. There were 4 (7.7 %) deaths (aspiration, myocardial infarction, self-injury, Gram-negative rod sepsis); none were related to StrataGraft. Confirmed WC was achieved by Week 12 in 33 patients (63.5 %; 95 % CI: 50.4–76.5 %) and 69 treatment sites (71.9 %; 95 % CI: 62.9–80.9 %). Durable WC was achieved by Week 24 in 29 patients (55.8 %; 95 % CI: 42.3–69.3 %) and 58 treatment sites (60.4 %; 95 % CI: 50.6–70.2 %). Conclusions: StrataGraft demonstrated clinical benefit. Safety data were consistent with previously reported findings.

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common cutaneous malignancy, comprising approximately 80% of non-melanoma skin cancers. There are numerous subtypes, including pigmented basal cell carcinoma (pBCC), a rare clinical and histological variant. Skin cancers in African American patients, although rare, still do occur. BCC is an uncommon neoplasm in this population, but when it does occur, pigmentation is present in more than 50% of tumors compared with only 5% to 6% of BCCs in Caucasians. This case report describes an atypically large pilar sheath acanthoma (PSA) presenting on a patient's cheek. Due to the bothersome nature of the lesion, the patient underwent surgical excision, with subsequent histopathological analysis confirming the diagnosis of an unusually large PSA. In addition to a definitive diagnosis, surgical excision provided symptomatic relief for the patient.

Bartonella is a genus of arthropod-borne bacterial pathogens that typically cause persistent infections of erythrocytes and endothelial cells in mammalian hosts. The species that primarily infect humans are Bartonella henselae and Bartonella quintana. Depending on immune status, the clinical presentation of B. henselae may differ, manifesting as cat-scratch disease in immunocompetent individuals or bacillary angiomatosis (BA) and peliosis in immunocompromised patients. Fibroblasts constitute a heterogeneous population of cells. In this study, we integrated single-cell RNA-sequencing and bulk RNA-sequencing data as well as clinical information to study the role of individual fibroblast populations in systemic sclerosis (SSc). SSc skin demonstrated an increased abundance of COMP+, COL11A1+, MYOC+, CCL19+, SFRP4/SFRP2+, and PRSS23/SFRP2+ fibroblasts signatures and decreased proportions of CXCL12+ and PI16+ fibroblast signatures in the Prospective Registry of Early Systemic Sclerosis and Genetics versus Environment in Scleroderma Outcome Study cohorts. This study evaluates the clinical accuracy of OpenAI's ChatGPT in pediatric dermatology by comparing its responses on multiple-choice and case-based questions to those of pediatric dermatologists. ChatGPT's versions 3.5 and 4.0 were tested against questions from the American Board of Dermatology and the "Photoquiz" section of Pediatric Dermatology. Results show that human pediatric dermatology clinicians generally outperformed both ChatGPT iterations, though ChatGPT-4.0 demonstrated comparable performance in some areas. The study highlights the potential of AI tools in aiding clinicians with medical knowledge and decision-making, while also emphasizing the need for continual advancements and clinician oversight in using such technologies.
