Medical Professionalism And Enculturation Of The Millennial Physician: Meeting Of The Minds, Steven R. Lindheim, Parvaneh K. Nouri, Kelly A. Rabah, Jerome L. Yaklic
Obstetrics and Gynecology Faculty Publications
The conceptualization of medicine as a profession that was held to ethical and practical standards was first formalized through the writings of 18th century British physician-ethicists Gregory and Percival. This was in response to the lack of standardization in both training and practice that existed within medicine at the time. Percival’s Medical Ethics subsequently served as reference for the first Code of Medical Ethics issued by the American Medical Association (AMA) in 1847. Today, it is universally accepted that an important aspect of becoming a physician is the learning and implementing of high standards of medical professionalism into practice. …

The Effect Of Positive And Negative Reinforcement On Sixth Graders’ Mental Math Performance, Tess Greene, Amber Todd
The Effect Of Positive And Negative Reinforcement On Sixth Graders’ Mental Math Performance, Tess Greene, Amber Todd
Medical Education Faculty Publications
We examined the relationship between different forms of reinforcement and subjects’ mathematical performance. Thirty sixth-grade students were asked to mentally calculate answers to fraction problems, while holding a heart rate monitor, after receiving a positive, negative, or neutral form of reinforcement. While the results suggest that any motivation, positive or negative, may result in higher grades, the positive reinforcement group displayed the largest gain. However, the results were not statistically significant, though the trend was consistent with prior research. The heart rates of the positively-reinforced group were significantly lower than those of the negatively-reinforced and control groups. These results suggest …

A focus group of six students responded in a semi-structured interview about their experiences with pregnant prisoners. The interview was recorded, transcribed and analyzed for Roach’s five caring concepts. The qualitative analysis revealed that sophomore nursing students manifested the caring concepts in their experience with …
