BACKGROUND: One of the most complicated medical needs of older adults is managing their complex medication regimens. However, the use of technology to aid older adults in this endeavor is impeded by the fact that their technological capabilities are lower than those of much of the rest of the population. Visiting any pediatric outpatient clinic as a child may be considered a stressful and anxiety-inducing experience. The literature suggests that positive distractions, such as pet therapy and single-user electronic devices, may aid in reducing anxiety and maximizing patient satisfaction throughout the patient’s experience at a pediatric outpatient clinic. The aim of this pilot quality improvement project was to determine which positive distractions patients experienced and whether single-user electronic loaner devices should be provided to patients at pediatric outpatient facilities. This review reports on the development of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), published within the past ten years, for people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS). Moreover, this review evaluates the extent to which patient participation was integrated in the development of the PROMs. A systematic review was conducted, and four relevant articles were extracted, from which nine PROMs were identified. Patient involvement in the development phase was identified in three PROMs. The results emphasize the need for more patient involvement in the development of new MS-specific PROMs to ensure that the measures reflect the needs and priorities of PwMS.

Diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) syndrome has a mortality rate of 30 to 60%. A 15-year-old male patient presented with a seven-day abdominal pain, vomiting, non-dysenteric diarrhea, conjunctival injection, and fever. Chest radiography revealed bilateral interstitial infiltrates predominating in the lower left lobe. The patient’s condition worsened within hours, with the development of massive hemoptysis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), arterial hypotension, and hematocrit decline requiring mechanical ventilation. A chest computed tomography (CT) showed ground-glass opacities with consolidation areas in lower lobes, diffuse tree-in-bud opacities, and centrilobular nodules. Homeless shelter performance is presently operationalized as shelter success in linking homeless individuals to housing; however, there is a cluster of individuals with co-occurring serious mental health issues who engage in chronic and episodic re-entry into homeless shelters. Telemedicine use for patients with autoimmune rheumatic conditions during the pandemic mandates better characterization. We conducted a telephonic survey on patients who consulted rheumatologists remotely to determine their attitudes toward telemedicine. The study was conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital, a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan which is a lower-middle-income country. Descriptive analyses were performed. Fifty patients visited tele-rheumatology clinic, 35 (70.0%) were female with a mean (SD) age of 47.6 (18.1) years. Majority (27, 54.0%) learned about telemedicine from hospital website and outpatient clinic desk or helpline. Lack of examination was the biggest concern with teleconsultation (18, 22.2%). Most …

Debate about the adoption of digital contact tracing (DCT) apps to control the spread of COVID-19 has focussed on risks to individual privacy. This emphasis reveals significant challenges to ethical deployment of DCT, but generates constraints which undermine justification to implement DCT. It would be a mistake to view this result solely as the successful operation of ethical foresight analysis, preventing deployment of potentially harmful technology. Background: The advantages of a specialized training program have led to over 84 postgraduate training programs for Physician Assistants (PAs) covering over 25 specialties. Employee lateral mobility is more prevalent within the PA profession, which allows PA providers to switch between medical specialties. The versatility of PAs promotes higher turnover rates compared to physician counterparts. These high turnover rates can result in increased institutional burden. Postgraduate PA programs provide pre-employment exposure to more in-depth medical training, enabling a well-rounded knowledge base of the PA’s roles and responsibilities, minimizing turnover rates.

In studies that have reported device-based measures of sedentary time (ST) in people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), we explored if the monitor type and monitor wear time moderated the estimate of this measure. Five electronic databases were searched in January 2021. Studies were included if >70% of participants had stable COPD, and measures of ST (min/day) were collected using wearable technology. Meta-regression was used to examine the influence of moderators on ST, monitor type, and wear time. The studies identified were a total of 1153, and 36 had usable data for meta-analyses. Studies estimate that 95% of diagnoses in outpatient care are accurate, implying that the annual rate of inaccurate diagnoses is 12 million in the US alone, with the potential for patient harm in about half. A well-researched differential might reduce inaccurate diagnoses by offering alternatives matching the patient’s symptoms. Access to paediatric neurology care is complex, resulting in significant wait times and negative patient outcomes. The goal of the American Academy of Pediatrics National Coordinating Center for Epilepsy's project, Access Improvement and Management of Epilepsy with Telehealth (AIM-ET), was to identify access and management challenges in the deployment of telehealth technology. AIM-ET organised four paediatric neurology teams to partner with primary-care providers (PCP) and their multidisciplinary teams. Telehealth visits were conducted for paediatric epilepsy patients. OBJECTIVE: To explore diverse provider perspectives on: strategies for addressing patient medication cost barriers; patient medication cost information gaps; current medication cost-related informatics tools; and design features for future tool development.

MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted 38 semistructured interviews with providers (physicians, nurses, pharmacists, social workers, and administrators) in a Midwestern health system in the United States. We used 3 rounds of qualitative coding to identify themes.

RESULTS: Providers lacked access to information about: patients' ability to pay for medications; true costs of full medication regimens; and cost impacts of patient insurance changes. Some providers said that while existing cost-related …

This study aimed to identify the future anxiety regarding immunity status in nursing students who work in hospitals, especially those caring for patients with COVID-19. This study design was cross-sectional with standard translated instruments of the Future Anxiety Scale and Immune Status Questionnaire administered using a Google Form to 102 respondents. Hospital accreditation undergoes three phases consist of preparation, implementation, and post-accreditation. In the post-accreditation phase, there is reduced compliance of workers and nurses. This study determines the quality of nursing documentation at the fully accredited hospital by using descriptive and quantitative research with a retrospective approach.
