Purpose/Background

Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a critical cardiovascular emergency associated with high morbidity and mortality. Despite its prevalence, traditional PE management often lacks cohesion, leading to suboptimal outcomes. Pulmonary Embolism Response Teams (PERTs) offer a multidisciplinary approach aimed at improving patient outcomes by streamlining diagnosis, facilitating timely interventions, and promoting evidence-based treatment. This scoping review evaluates the evidence supporting PERT efficacy across various clinical and resource-related outcomes with the aim to decrease mortality rates, shorten inpatient length of stay, improve cost efficacy, and minimize adverse events from treatment modalities.

Background: Oncology patients are a vulnerable population with medication-related problems spanning across care settings. Gastrointestinal medical oncology (GIMO) patients often have unique medication challenges due to extensive treatment history. High-quality medication reconciliation aids in preventing medication discrepancies and potential adverse events during transitions of care. We conducted a pilot post-hospital discharge intervention with clinical pharmacy specialists for GIMO patients.

Objective: The primary objective was to identify the frequency of medication discrepancies.

To identify the factors associated with emergency difficult intubation (DI) and difficult airway (DA) management in hospitalized patients with cancer, we conducted a single-center retrospective study in hospitalized patients who underwent emergency intubations in a non−operating setting from 2016 to 2019 at a cancer treatment center. Background: Appropriate antimicrobial dosing is vital in the treatment of patients with infectious diseases, though adherence to guideline recommended doses is often suboptimal.

Outcomes: This study was conducted to evaluate the impact of a renal dosing refreshable sidebar report, which displayed recommendations from a previously developed institutional antimicrobial dosing guide at the time of antimicrobial order entry. Tobacco-use disorder remains a global health challenge, despite declining rates, and is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, especially among special populations that disproportionally do not have access to comprehensive treatment services. The lack of trained providers and slow dissemination of new tobacco treatment knowledge are obstacles to accessing comprehensive evidence-based treatments. Less is known about the impact of specialized training programs on healthcare professionals' ability to effectively treat tobacco use. NCCARE360 is North Carolina’s statewide coordinated care platform powered by Unite Us.¹ Burke County Public Health (BCPH) identified gaps in the standardized NCCARE360 training, prompting a tailored approach. Using the Plan-Do-Study-Act cycle, BCPH refined training materials with interactive guides, real-life scenarios, and one-on-one sessions. The purpose of this DNP project was to determine if the implementation of a very important discharge appointment (VIDA) would increase the number of hospital discharges occurring before noon (DBN) each day. Epidural anesthesia is a cornerstone of perioperative pain management, offering effective analgesia and reduced opioid dependency. However, traditional landmark-based epidural placement (EP) techniques often result in variable first-pass success rates (FPSR) and increased risks of complications. Ultrasound-guided (USG) EP has emerged as an alternative, providing real-time anatomical visualization to improve accuracy and safety. This scoping review synthesizes evidence on the comparative efficacy of USG EP and conventional techniques in adult patients undergoing perioperative epidural anesthesia.

Postpartum Depression (PPD) is a concerning mental health condition characterized by feelings of extreme sadness, exhaustion, and challenges with maternal-infant bonding. PPD effects mothers’ ability to adequately care for themselves and their newborns. Current research suggests that one in seven women experience symptoms of PPD as late as 12 months postpartum. Despite screening guidelines set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics, 50% of mothers with PPD will not receive a diagnosis.

Unhoused individuals face disproportionately high rates of wound-related complications due to environmental exposure, limited access to hygiene facilities, and delayed care. This study assessed the accessibility of wound care for the unhoused population in South Jersey, where approximately 2,607 individuals experience homelessness on any given night. Our research identified significant barriers to wound care access, including transportation limitations, lack of identification documents, absence of a physical mailing address, and language barriers.
